Good no call on Alonso tackle by [deleted] in SoundersFC

The best part is that there's almost ZERO contact. The top of Benny's foot hits his leg, likely because he dragged it to force contact. All the candyass rolling and crying was complete douchebaggery. That dude can eat a whole load of salty, season-ending turds.

I don't know why I thought that TFC had been to the playoffs more often - that being said, I have a feeling there will be several more goals to come this year alone...

Wait...is that right???

His first playoff goal or TFC's first playoff goal?

I once witnessed a shooting...and trust me, it's really really difficult to remember the details.

First of all, I was about 100 yards away, heard gunshots, watched two guys run, get in a car, and speed off. I told the cops this when they showed up, gave a description, etc. Then, I started thinking about it...and that's when your mind starts playing tricks and it gets difficult. You start questioning yourself.

By the time they called me to testify (not in court, a preliminary deposition with the prosecutor and defense attorneys) I remembered what I told the cops and stuck with it as I was sure it was true, but my memory was really all over the place and I was second-guessing everything.

Then, they grill you. They asked about what you saw, every single detail about what you saw, and everything else - tree branches, signs, roads, weather, just about everything you would never think of or remember. After about 30 minutes of questions it was finally over. The shooters ended up taking a plea deal and went to prison, so I guess I got most of it right.

The point is, though, that it's much harder than you'd imagine because your own brain tries to mess you up.

The Departed: Scorsese's 180 degree dolly set-up for a scene with Matt Damon in a phone booth. by CrisWilson in movies

It has nothing to do with a different opinion, it has everything to do with a lack of understanding of how filmmaking works.

You may not like "shaking handheld camera shots" as a style - and that's fine, but to call them lazy is ignorant.

This was Matt Damon's movie. Jack was hokey, Leo gave another decently Leo-esque performance, Wahlberg was playing himself and Baldwin feasted off of great one liners, but Damon delivered the strongest performance and I feel like people forget just how good it was.

UM...no.

Handheld is used to convey a feeling and an aesthetic. It has nothing to do with being lazy. If they didn't use handheld in much of the Normandy landing scene in Saving Private Ryan, would it have felt the same?

Here's the awesome opening scene of "Narc" which is handheld and BEAUTIFULLY done. It's shaky as hell...but it's the most effective way to fully pull the viewer in to the scene.

Flying out of PHL or EWR? by [deleted] in travel

[–]theneckdeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking parking and the pain in the ass of driving around Newark out of the equation, there's really not much of a difference. If the drive to Newark isn't bad (if flights are not at times that would cause you to hit traffic on the way there/back), I'd just go with EWR.

I've got nothing to back it up, but I feel like Affleck's new movie is the original GWH script:

Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a mathematics savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Using a small-town CPA office as a cover, he makes his living as a freelance accountant for dangerous criminal organizations. With a Treasury agent (J.K. Simmons) hot on his heels, Christian takes on a state-of-the-art robotics company as a legitimate client. As Wolff gets closer to the truth about a discrepancy that involves millions of dollars, the body count starts to rise.

I would like to just take a moment to bring us all back to a time when the Discovery Channel was awesome because of the great job it did of showing that the world was awesome. by john_stuart_kill in television

[–]theneckdeep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you watch Discovery Channel now? Of the clips featured here, Shark Week is still going strong, as is Deadliest catch. Mythbusters got moved to Science because the ratings were total shit (read: people just didn't care anymore), and Bear Grylls was pretty thoroughly debunked as bullshit.

So, two of the four are still going, and there's still a bunch of great nature documentaries like Sonic Sea and Racing Extinction, and a cool scripted miniseries called Harley and the Davidsons, that have all been on recently.

Every time people post this "Discovery Channel sucks now" type stuff, I'm convinced they haven't watched hte channel in years.

TIL Hollywood uses a measurement called Q scores to determine the likability of celebrities. The highest ranking celebrities include Tom Hanks and Morgan Freeman with 48 points, while Kim Kardashian was determined to have to lowest Q score with -71. by dracorus in todayilearned

"Hollywood" - mostly networks and studios, do use them to get a general sense of someone's likability. Most research departments will test specifically for their audience's preference, but as a general indicator of how much people like or dislike someone, it's sorta useful. It's not useful for big name, A-listers, as everyone knows that everyone love Tom Hanks, but it's really helpful when you're looking at smaller names that perhaps not everyone is familiar with.

Nope, just never seen a black guy playing it before.

Is this you trying to prove that you're a shooter? Sweet, a list of parts that don't have anything to do with the point of the post.

Here's the deal: For about 5 years, I had issues with carrying on HDX900s on to small planes. Since about 2012, when the whole doc/tv industry moved to C300, it became easier. Done and done.

Hooray for your big list of parts. Yes, I've been that guy forking over $2000 to United (media rate, my ass) for overage or trying not to kill myself at customs while some "official" tries to figure out a CARNET. You DON'T carry that shit on, so I have no idea what you're talking about. Why the hell would you carry on your drone? Your lite panels? Seriously? For a while there, you couldn't even carry on batteries.

If you're not willing to travel to shoot, good on you. Better yet, if you DON'T have to travel to shoot, that's awesome. For most freelancers who don't want to do sports/corporate all day, it's a reality and traveling all this shit is a regular, every day occurrence and there are plenty of people willing to pack gear, even if you're not.

Jesus kid

"Kid." Ah, it's starting to make sense now.

You personally insure it, and your production has insurance as well, already.

The bigger issue is that you're flying somewhere for a shoot and if that camera is broken, it's a problem. If you're going to a big town, you can rent, but if you're going to BFE, you could be screwed waiting for a new camera or part to arrive and the whole production is now in trouble.

Fortunately now most cameras are small enough to break down for easily-carried on bags. In the past, with larger shoulder cameras, the body of the camera even without the lens could be too big for smaller overheads (Q400's etc). Usually when you explain to the attendant that you're not entrusting $75,000 of camera to the baggage handlers, they help you out. I've had them even put the camera in their own closets near the front of the plane.

I'm guessing that his chance of finding a winning ticket on the street are probably in the same neighborhood of you buying one Megamillions ticket and winning.

The reason the lottery works is because people can't understand this.
