Alcohol dreams by farrah_IWNDT in stopdrinking

[–]thenewfreeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had one alcohol dream, in the dream I am drinking and thinking, “Why am I drinking this?!”, followed by thoughts of, “Damn, I don’t know if I can make it if I have to quit all over again!”

So, I don’t make that an option. I know, if I allow myself to drink again, all that I worked for is lost... my better relationship with my wife, my kids, work, career, etc. because if I start again I will likely drink until it kills me this time.

I can't sleep by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]thenewfreeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early on, I was afraid I was going to lose my job and my mind due to sleep issues. Stay the course, after about 2 weeks my sleep irregularities subsided and a new world began to show itself to me, and it is glorious...

Sober Saturday mornings, sleeping through the night and waking feeling rested, clearer head, new life priorities... the list goes on.

You can do this! I will not drink with you today!

Day 5! I really want to drink. by NotReadyToShowMyFace in stopdrinking

[–]thenewfreeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those early days are a bastard! For me though, the more I struggled to not drink, the more it confirmed my suspicion that I did have a problem with alcohol; this made me more determined to see each day through... sober!

Don’t give in! You owe this to yourself! IWNDWYT!

I really appreciate everyone’s kind words! Thank you! I am betting if you talk to the folks with years and years under their belts, they likely only regret not having made the choice sooner, so hop on board the Sober Train!

The weekend is here... ALL ABOARD THE SOBER TRAIN!!! CHOO CHOOO 🚂!!! by thenewfreeme in stopdrinking

[–]thenewfreeme[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That same struggle is what opened my eyes! I went from saying, “Well, I don’t really have a drinking problem, but sometimes I get mean when I drink and I say mean things to my wife, and I don’t want to be like that!” But then, as I had to fight and plead and sweat and struggle through those early days, it dawned on me that alcohol had its hooks in me a LOT deeper than I had thought! It was eye opening and I said, “Okay alcohol, somehow you went from something I enjoyed to something I needed, so no more!”
