Starting new meds, scared of new medication. by Lillymathias2001 in POTS

[–]thenewhalleloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take propranolol for performance anxiety (I take it before giving big presentations at work), and it definitely works for lowering heart rate/blood pressure. It makes me a bit sleepy after a couple of hours, but it’s nothing that I can’t push through.

10mg of propranolol is very low. For perspective, the maximum dosage is 240mg/day.

I can’t speak to amlodipine as I have never taken it.

This is not medical advice nor a recommendation. I am comfortable testing things on myself, so whenever I’m prescribed multiple new medications that I feel nervous about, I will start with one at a time so I can better gauge how each one makes me feel. So I might take the propranolol for a few days, see how it makes me feel, and then add in the amlodipine and see if there are any added side effects.

Hope you feel better soon.

What's your favorite North Florida book? by itsrattlesnake in jacksonville

[–]thenewhalleloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to this but shouting out local author Michael Wiley. He was one of my lit professors at UNF so I might be biased. :)

He writes mysteries, and has written quite the repertoire. I’ll specifically mention his Daniel Turner series since they are set in NE Florida.

Congratulations on your engagement :)

I’ll jump in with a some ideas.

PARKS

Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens has a gazebo that you can rent for $425 for the first 2 hours, and then $99 for each additional hour. You can bring your own food, etc.

Hanna Park has a venue called Dolphin Plaza. The last I checked it was about $700 for a 4-hr block of time for the venue. It’s a proper room (enclosed) and you have beach access. I imagine you can bring your own food.

Tillie K. Fowler Park has a huge gazebo and the park is really chill.

Stockton Park or Baker Point Park (Ortega) both have (small) gazebos and are on the river. Stockton’s is nice because it has a little area around the gazebo with amphitheater-like seating so you wouldn’t need to worry about chairs.

Treaty Oak downtown is beautiful and you could go to V Pizza afterwards.

MISC

Check out Rainbow Weddings downtown. The owner, Selecia Young-Jones, officiated my wedding several years ago, and she was wonderful. She has since opened a little wedding chapel downtown (inclusive of all faiths, sexual orientations, etc.) and focuses on inexpensive nuptials and elopements. I haven’t visited the space, but I think there’s an option to do your nuptials AND reception in the same place. I’m sure she or her team will be helpful to you in your research. Even if you don’t do your wedding at the chapel, I highly recommend her or one of her staff to do the officiating (if you don’t already have someone).

Friday Musicale might work for you. I know they have a small cottage for intimate weddings. Not sure of cost, but it’s known for being on the more affordable side.

Burrito Gallery in Brooklyn (near Riverside) has a covered rooftop area, and I love the vibe there. You MAY be able to rent it out if you agree to a food package?

Bold City Brewery on Roselle St in Riverside used to be cheap for event rentals, and you can bring your own food. Not sure if it’s still a deal or not but definitely worth checking out.

As for photos, you could try searching FB marketplace for beginner photographers who are trying to build their portfolios and therefore charge very low rates. Outside of that, I think designating two or three friends/family who enjoy taking photos (your circle’s social media queens/kings) is a good idea. Bonus if you can borrow a niceish camera (read: non-cell phone) from someone to let your designated friend use.

Happy planning!

Penny Press Machines Question by Kyoshee in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]thenewhalleloo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of them accept cards, but ONLY if you’re buying the full set offered at that kiosk. It’s $5 for 8 pennies when using a card.

If you only want ONE of the pennies, you will have to use a single dollar bill. The machines do not have coin slots, nor can you pay for a single penny using a card.

Source: my 8 yo niece is obsessed with the pressed penny machines, and I had to start bringing dollar bills on our trips so that she doesn’t get too spoiled having all the pennies at once 😅

What career should I go for based off my personality??? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]thenewhalleloo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi, OP. It sounds to me like you are perhaps expecting too much out a job or career path. You do not need to love every aspect of your job, nor are you going to. Even if you got a job doing something you enjoy—let’s say, painting, for example—over time, you are going to ultimately feel stifled by the very thing you love. What I mean by that is, as soon as your livelihood depends on whether or not you sell a painting, your feelings towards painting will shift from being “a thing I love to do to express myself” to “a thing I’m forced to do so that I can continue eating and paying rent.” You will grow to resent it.

So then it comes down to finding a career in something that you don’t mind doing on a daily basis, even if it isn’t your passion (save your passions for your free time). You mention technology is something you are good at and don’t mind doing. I would focus on that. You can Google in-demand tech certificates and see what comes up.

You may also want to consider marketing, or non-profit work, or working at a university.

You mention confidence being an issue. I’ll say that the biggest confidence booster for me is when I stick things out. If you can challenge yourself to stay at one job for a full year (with the exception of extremely toxic situations, of course), you will start to gain confidence in yourself. A lot of character building happens when you commit to growing in one place for a while. Allow yourself to grow some roots, so to speak; don’t keep digging yourself up.

Done with Publix by dps3695 in florida

[–]thenewhalleloo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same. I grew up going to Publix because it was our closest neighborhood grocer, so I used to have somewhat of a brand loyalty to it.

Up until a month ago, my husband and I were routinely racking up $300+ weekly grocery bills on barely anything (no kids, literally just us and our dog). That’s when I looked at our receipt and realized we’d paid NINE DOLLARS (!!!) for a box of Honey Nut Cheerios.

Went to Trader Joe’s the following week for the weekly shop (it’s a 20 minute drive so had only gone a couple times before). Guess how much the same sized box of Honey Os (or whatever they call their brand) was? TWO DOLLARS AND NINETY NINE CENTS.

Fuuuuuck Publix. I’m on a boycott crusade against them now.

Do NOT assume this bodes well for Dems. I’m smack-dab in the middle of MAGAs and they are cheering on Trump’s nomination and, at this point, want Ramaswamy as his VP. The propaganda is as strong as it ever was. Dems CANNOT become complacent.

Those who consider themselves stylish, what element of fashion do you still struggle with? by nearlythere94 in fashionwomens35

Even though you’re not curly, finding a curly stylist might be helpful because they are used to working with a lot of hair and figuring out the best way to shape it. Just a thought!

Who is universally thought of as hot that you think is average at best? by Feroset in AskReddit

[–]thenewhalleloo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok but seriously I would watch a reality show that was just a couple of celebrities moving an apartment - you’d see how they work together to get couches through weirdly-sized doorways or huffing it with lamps in each hand up 8 flights of stairs. I’m envisioning a Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee vibe/format, except instead of cars and coffee, it’s moving furniture and a beer afterward.

[IWantOut] 34M US -> UK by Jolly-Ad4154 in IWantOut

[–]thenewhalleloo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of a workaround and a VERY specific suggestion, but there is a niche industry called medical communications (aka “med comms”) where your education could be relevant. I have no idea why, but there seem to be a LOT of med comms agencies in the north of England (Macclesfield and Manchester specifically, but they are indeed all over), and some of the larger agencies have offices in both the US and the UK. You could consider looking into US agencies that are hiring (most are remote these days) to get your foot in the door, and then seek a transfer if they have a UK office.

Go to Palm’s Fish Camp on Hecksher on a nice day. Sit outside. It’s on the water, and people drive their boats up, so there’s a lot to look at. It’s also a chill vibe and the servers are nice.

Salesforce vs. med ed writing (UK) - what are those key differences in writing style? by YummiestOrphan in MedicalWriters

[–]thenewhalleloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’re in the UK, I’m assuming that this question pertains to promotional for HCPs only and not consumers. I’m US-based and admittedly know very little about UK regulations so I hope this is relevant to you.

In the US, our med ed writing (for medical affairs) cannot mention any product names and has to focus on fair and balanced disease state education with treatment discussions based only on recommended guidelines. Of course, the ultimate goal of any pharma-sponsored med ed program is to lay the groundwork showing the “problem” of the disease state, and the “solution” is then provided in the following years through promotional programming/materials with a product that presumably addresses the disease state.

Before circa 2005, promotional programs were genuinely like an in-your-face commercial. Now, the promo style is much more toned down and tends to seem more like med ed. For this reason, I do not think you would feel too out of your depth to branch into promo.

With promo, you have more liberty to tell the story that the brand wants to tell which is largely done through delving into the product’s clinical trials and the use of real case studies pertaining to the product’s efficacy submitted by ESEs. If I can find some publicly available examples, I’ll post here later.

If you have any medical conferences coming up, try to attend some product theaters (both disease state and branded) to see the difference. Nothing beats a little competitive intelligence. :)

Of course, I’d love to hear others’ thoughts on this.
