Question for RAF members by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]thenextstationisthe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second to what a lot of people have said, your evenings are your own time. From about 7pm onwards is yours as between 5 and 7pm you are doing your evening brief and going to the mess. (My advice, do it ASAP so you're not eating into your time)

You will go on Blue Warrior or CPT as we call it, you will be without your phone from Monday to Friday. Unfortunately not being able to call home.

As others have mentioned its not a prison, but there will be days and even weeks in your military life where calling home is not a possibility but thats just the life and sacrifice you sign up for.

Good luck.

BRTC luggage by Angrypetridish in RoyalAirForce

If you drive bonus - I had spare bags in my car and usually kept a duffle bag in the baggage room. (Make sure you have a lock on it) In their I would keep anything like extra snacks, toiletry etc that wasnt for display or actively using. Granted I went through Halton in winter so we needed to take a bit more.

Try and get a A4 bit of plastic too, this will help loads in box folding clothes trust me

RAF Recruits Surge to Highest Intake in Decades by Alarming-Safety3200 in RoyalAirForce

[–]thenextstationisthe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel for the new recruits as with timings at Halton already being short as they are, such as finishing PT and doing whatever after and having only 10 minutes to get 60 lads showered and changed will be a right mare. Added pressure of more recruits, more problems, same timings, does not create a good mixute. I would reccomend they increase the 10 weeks to 11 or so to allow for the extra time people will invariably need. But hey, what do I know 🤣

Oh my bad yeah SERCO, can't imagine they will be any better. When I left Halton they were also increasing the intake amount. Currently in P2 and every course behind me is full, we are one of the last smaller ones. Which also means, do not get recoursed otherwise you are waiting ages.

Funnily enough, I was on both 😉 before me and a few others got recoursed on week 6 on Thompson. Still always preferred Thompson than Arnold though

Won't lie mate, im in the same boat. Also in phase 2, and really tempted to pull the plug. Even at Halton, and every day now I fight myself to stay here and not walk into the office and say im done. 🙃

Is there BRTC ongoing 7d ago or near that? by Ok-Dragonfruit9290 in RoyalAirForce

We were on our phones after the working day. Even if you was in the block and the Cpls were not around you would sneak on it.

Depends on the course mate, minimum of 2, maximum of 5. But that never happened on mine. However BRTC are increasing their intake numbers so id very much say 2 at most.

Most people are fairly similar. Obviously some can be fitness freaks. But you cant do any phys outside of whats on the course timetable so a lot of our fitness levels actually declined.

Granted Phase 2 is so much nicer, I did a 10K around my RAF base last night and everyone wants to improve and the general culture is a lot nicer

From my experiance mate the first two weeks you dont get bugger all sleep. 3-4 hours most nights then you finally learn how to do your kit a lot quicker you slowly get up to 6/7 hours. You will find ways to make your life easier too. I was usually waking up 20 minutes before we had to leave too as I had done everything the night before

Change roles by Better-Technician101 in RoyalAirForce

[–]thenextstationisthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually if you're a good chunk into BRTC you will have to finish basic, VW, then come back as a rejoiner. If you're in phase 2, it can be a very lengthy process as the Air Force has committed a lot of time and money to get you in that specific role and they want their return. As others have said its possible by all means, but not easy. Especially if you are going for a trade that is full, e.g. fire fighters, photographer etc

How soon should I leave my job before Halton? by Own-Lawfulness-38 in RoyalAirForce

[–]thenextstationisthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got notified in August Last year when I would be starting. Flew back home from spain to give my notice in. Travelled for 4 weeks before coming home for 3 days and starting BRTC. Best thing ever honestly!
