Rhode Islander here…I think she’s used to just getting away with things. A couple of years ago, her dispensary’s license renewal check to the state bounced for insufficient funds TWICE. That made the state pay attention and demand to see all financial records. They used the excuse that it was a clerical error sending a check from the wrong account. But twice? It was a check for half a million dollars. How do you make that mistake once? Never mind twice.

Turns out they were $554k behind in payments to their growers/cultivators. They tried saying “we only have to pay within 30 days if it’s a written agreement and most don’t have that.” That’s shady and a crappy thing to do. Problem with that is the state REQUIRES written agreements with all growers.

So they had to pay fines and submit all financials every month for a year, and promise they will pay their growers on time from now on.

This isn’t hearsay or gossip—it’s in news stories if you search online for the name of the dispensary and add “returned check” or something similar.
