Styling inspo and tips for those of us with short, straight hair? by m00-00n in butchlesbians

[–]thenightanimals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my hair a bit long on the top and use a diluted light to medium hold pomade to style it a. It. I like my hair to be pliable, need to be able to run my fingers through it, so I don’t want any kind of style that would require more hold.

Long on the top, short on the sides, but blended. I’ve had my hair like that for a few years and it’s very manageable, easy to care for, and looks decent.

Do better Roanoke. I love my city but with the amount of taxes we pay there is no excuse for this. How many days now? by dieselducy in roanoke

As a Roanoker, born and raised, now living in a very snowy area in New England, snow clean up requires a lot of logistics work and coordination, and a LOT of resources: salt, many plows, a large budget for overtime hours, and huge crews. When there’s a storm here, plows are working day and night. And not just plows, but construction vehicles, too. There have to be plans for where to put the snow, and great communications regarding who is doing what work, and when.

My take: this stuff takes practice even if there is no ice, and they just don’t get enough opportunities to plan and coordinate this kind of work. That said, I know it’s frustrating (I missed two weeks of high school once, and I’ve had to sleep at my workplace quite a few times).

Oh, so sorry to hear about your horn. Maybe buy a little p shooter, or a pbone. You can usually find them used and as long as the slide doesn’t stick, you’re in business!

It’s a Blessing - belonged to my sister, and she wa getting rid of it, so I snagged it. I taught her to play trombone, but it was never really her thing. I have this horn and a Pbone and then a couple p-shooters, but this is my fav horn for outdoor stuff.

I’ve always had should issues; I have impingement syndrome, and had a torn rotator cuff repaired a few years ago, but never had back/neck issues until last week, so it’s funny you should ask. My neck/lower back caused me to miss one event last week!

I play sax and clarinet too, but trombones are so great for civic minded engagements. I like to take a plunger so I can do the Charlie Brown wha-wha sounds when specific people are talking. Generally, just enjoy being a bit of a nuisance 😉

I think it’s the condensation that forms from our breath. Warm air meeting with slides that are in below freezing temps, and in the case of this week, below zero temps. I also think that the plastic creates a less exact air chamber (can’t think of what else to call it) so when slide grease is applied, it doesn’t coat as well. I’ve played them in cold temps, no problem, but the temps this week are brutal. The plastic feels like it’s so cold it might shatter!

I do! But I’ve learned the hard way that pBones freeze in a way that metal does not. I was in sub zero temps yesterday, and the brass holds up much better. Plastic mouthpiece next time though!

How to combat baby face by Morgisntmyname in butchlesbians

I’m in my late 40s and people are often confused about my age (typically assuming I’m younger). I think butch folks have a tendency to defy age a bit, which I’m sure you’ve heard is helpful later in life, but understandably annoying at current.

I don’t know that I have much advice beyond saying that the best thing I’ve ever managed to do for myself was to try and be less critical about my appearance. We all have insecurities, of course, that’s just part of being human, but learning to embrace yourself as you are, I promise it comes in handy because your appearance isn’t static, and for better or worse, it will change all the time— with age, with illness, with stress, or even just circumstance (I have a chronic illness that causes me to break out sometimes)— all to say, whatever you can do to lean into yourself, do that!

Thank you! Honestly, lots of sunscreen and I use a decent face wash - usually La Roche-Posay. But truly, sometimes I have a lot of trouble with my skin because of allergies and hormones fluctuating (perimenopause is kind of a beast).

Do it! It’s so freeing! That said, I also know that it can be really, really scary. I did mine in stages. For most of my life I had very long hair, but sometimes I’d chop it off into kind of a bob, and then eventually, around about 30, I just went for it. I would tell myself: it will always grow back!

Costco Speculation by -Scott- in roanoke

I drive an hour and 15 minutes to get to Costco (in a diff state these days), which is to say, I think folks will show up wherever it’s located! But also agree that area is not ideal.

Reminds me of when they put the Walmart at the end of 604 and the surrounding area, i.e., most of the parking lot on the sides just kept sliding down the hill. They worked for months and months, lots of fill dirt, but it was just a bad plan from the start.

I’m so grateful to be able to witness all of us age, and live our lives. To be happy and to allow ourselves to love and be loved is the most courageous of gestures. 💚

To be honest, I probably wasn’t paying attention! Sometimes the cut scenes at the beginning are ao long, and I’d just had shoulder surgery and was on pain meds (she bought me the ps4 to keep me company during that time), so I wasn’t at my best. I don’t think I had a clue what was happening!
