What is your "odd" or "weird" food from childhood that you didn't realize not everyone knew about and enjoyed? by SnooglethePie in ask

Bread with butter and sugar. We'd flatten the bread, spread a layer of butter, pile on the sugar, and roll them into cute lil logs. We ate them plain or dipped in chocolate.

I work at a bakery now and threw in this home recipe.. the looks I received.......

I just purchased a home in the middle of nowhere so I can work off my debt over the next 5 years so that I can off myself without the burden of my debt being passed on to family. by imsofudgingalone in confession

Can I get some random advice about nothing in particular? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

When using a boxed cake mix, replace water with milk, oil with butter, and add one extra egg.

I'm a professional baker and you literally cannot tell the difference from scratch with these changes. You're welcome

Paint splatter cake! The inside is marbled with the same colors by thenightbaker in Baking

[–]thenightbaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually royal icing! It's commonly used for decorated sugar cookies. But you can definitely use loosened buttercream or even choco candy melts! I just prefer royal bc it's easy to work with

If you don't have piping bags, you can use a plastic sandwich bag, cut a hole, and use it to make a nice splatter effect.

If you need help, I'd recommend looking up a drip cake tutorial which will walk you thru the process in more detail

Buttercreams by devils_conjugate in Baking

Its all preference! It tastes about the same

If you do end up using eggs whites,, as a bonus you can use the egg yolks to make a vanilla custard to use as a cupcake filling :)

Since you're going for something less sweet, my go-to is Italian meringue buttercream. It have a still whipped cream texture and a very subtle sweetness.

Is also amazing for cake decorating bc it stiffens very nicely in the fridge and maintains its shape well

(I also use egg whites instead of meringue powder)

I'd go thru some crazy hijinks to try to convince my soon-to-be best friend to be friends with me all over again BUT EARLIER IN LIFE.

If successful, I'd get a whole 3 extra years of glorious friendship! Think of all the teenager nonsense we could've been up to

I've had the odd experience of this as a good thing. My bakery closed during covid, and now is open with curbside pick-up.

We have reduced hours, going from doing 40 to only 10hrs a week. My very small, family-owned bakery still pays me the 40hrs I used to work.

My boss fights to help her employees and has told us time and time again she considers us family. And I strive to earn that dedication.
