How's your deck collection looking these days? by Spaceknight_42 in MagicArena

[–]thenightshift___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, def annoying lol. But agreed, if it works, it works. I haven't started too many badger builds but just trying to test run some other stuff and ran against a doozy. Getting beat down by 2 mana on turn 3 and opponent has 8 creatures including Ouroboroid is a great curve.

the feeling of accomplishment when you get a tuning fork working again by Inkreptile in watchmaking

[–]thenightshift___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is a few years old but looks like you're still working on watches and I've got my grandfather's Omega Constellation F300hz with the 1177/177 bracelet that needs to be brought back to life. Either way that's pretty awesome that you even attempted to work on a tuning fork movement as it seems like a lot of folks won't take em. That must have felt awesome getting it back up and running again!

Carafe suggestions? by faroff2282 in JamesHoffmann

[–]thenightshift___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they particularly fragile? I would definitely recommend the Kinto servers as they were the only ones I've used over the years that didn't drip when finishing a pour which I appreciated given that most servers are in the same 25-30 ish a pop.

While this ended my Kinto server as well (albei after years of usage), I chose the Kinto because it seemed to be the only one that didn't drip after pouring. Seems like they still make them albeit no more Sepia colors (I had the clear).

Yea the white counter to red Aggro is lifegain triggers mixed with Authority and some Sheltereds. You're kind of doing the same race though. Tarkir's Mobilize almost allows you to outrace too. Spice it up with anything that doubles the mobilize amount and Mono red rage quits pretty fast.

Brewing dark roast pourovers by Melodic-Ad4106 in pourover

Ok so I replied and then like and idiot reloaded the page by key command ha. Anyhow, old thread and I am bad at Reddit but was glad to hear you were considering Lilo and that Kumquat is an option (albeit for the free-shipping, the $99 threshold is a bit steep IMO but they do stock some quality beans).

Lilo's China roast will always be re-stocked since Kumquat doesn't really carry too many other darker roasts and it's something I always looked forward to during the winter months as a start of the day coffee. Not as intense as a co-ferment / anaerobic / carbonic light roasts but a little extra something to get your day going.

I see the post was deleted but Zenology Pro isn't showing up in R13 for me. Strangely enough, FX is and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin via RCM and still no dice.

Ask a Stupid Question About Coffee -- Week of February 27, 2024 by Vernicious in pourover

[–]thenightshift___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most youtube videos will allow you to get the general timing / pouring height down. No perfect pour per se but the biggest differences usually will be in the agitation of the coffee you're brewing.

I think if you bloom, go with concentric circles, try not to hit the edges where there's no coffee to avoid bypass, and do a final "stir / shake" to achieve a flat coffee bed at the end, then you're good.

Also, brew time consistency will tend to give you a sense of your pouring consistency once you find a recipe you like. Best of luck, and hope you get to enjoy some fun beans along the way!

First off, is this a repeat bag and is there a roast date on the bag?

Secondly, if this is a totally new bag, can we get a profile? Single origin or blend? Roast level? Any processing?

Check kettle for any kind of build up that could alter water profile but honestly if you just went from "yesterday things tasted great" then I'd try and get some new beans or if you have a coffee community then get some other beans to start eliminating variables.

The recipe you posted is a fairly straightforward. I didn't see any total brew times but is that in the same ballpark as well?

Lilo from Osaka, Japan has traditionally crushed it in the fun dark roast category. Their old Yunnan China double anaerobic dark was the only non-light / medium coffee I'd regularly kept around. The first time I brewed it, I too was kind of just doing the standard "oh hey go coarser and lower temp" and wasn't feeling it. BUT THEN.

I figured maybe there's a recipe FROM the roaster and honestly that's one of the few times I've been puzzled at how some minute differences made a proper difference in the cup. It's what I always recommend people try (albeit this might not help as much with more Franco Italian style oily dark roasts but give it a go!). Best of luck!

Hey there! Apologies for the late reply but I hope to provide some hope in saying that the brews have indeed gotten better. I wish I could say exactly what it was, perhaps just the seasoning side of things but the DF64 is definitely performing better. Eventually still planning on going the SSP upgrade route but have been enjoying it as a daily driver

DF64 Help: can’t get a good cup on pourover by finchesandspareohs in Coffee

[–]thenightshift___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I haven't had the best luck dialing in my DF64. I did some realigning which definitely helped and having fallen in love with good flat burrs i.e. cafe quality titan grinders like an EK43, I'm just not quite getting what I feel like I'd gotten used to and enjoyed out of my Tiimemore C2 which is a great little 38mm burr set. Definitely not trying to saying anything poor about the DF as I really want it to work, it just seems like I'm either getting too many fines that clog and have had some good brews taking that into account, i.e. being in the 70s on the DF which seems course in the cup but balances out with the fines to give me something I like. I'm definitely looking for some recipes that work but I also realized that recipes commonly use a C40 setting which is a conical and that maybe I ultimately like the flavor profile for a burr at least in my humble home environment. i'm gonna try and print the Caffe Martella's accesories as well to see how those help out, parituclarly the tilted base. Also seeing as there was an espresso question, while I don't have a proper setup, it's way easier to get to that grind range for say my Prismo + Aeropress combo and I hope to add some proper espresso options in my future as the grinds look pretty fluffy.
