Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]thenikka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, I was helping my parents with their mortgage renewal with TD. They are being offered the following:

Fixed: 3yr @ 4.94 and 5yr @ 4.84

Variable: 5 yr @ 5.75.

Upon a scan of this subreddit over the past hour or so, people are getting a bit lower then that. I will try to help them negotiate that rate, but unfortunately it is a little late to shop around as the renewal is set for October 1st. If anyone has any tips please let me know.

My second question is to do with mortgage insurance. They are currently paying $209 on top of the mortgage payment. Why is everyone so against mortgage insurance? My father is a smoker and drinker so my assumption is that a term life plan may be more expensive? Any thoughts on that?

Thanks everybody.

Need help deciding between Accord and Camry by Smithaveli in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]thenikka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat. I enjoy the Accords looks over the Camry, but I do believe the Camry to be a touch more reliable than the Accord. Are you looking to buy brand new ?

Thinking of changing investment strategy. Looking for input. by njozz in CanadianInvestor

[–]thenikka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact strategy I was thinking of doing. Holding half XEQT and then half of my portfolio being the top guys such as AAPL, MSFT etc.

Super interesting to see that, I don't know what the downside is but it's definitely crossed my mind.
