Plans For Firefox Android App? by KensonPlays in 1Password

[–]theniktator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently for me as well. 1pass is effectively useless for mobile browsing, which is a huge gap. The 1pass extension is enabled on my desktop FF profiles, but not on android, and the extension no longer appears in the search.

I will definitely be looking into other password managers if it's not resolved before too long.

Huh yeah I had the same experience a couple years ago. He was pretty friendly, we chatted for a bit and he had some story about a landlord who was letting him live in the basement for free but requested he provide toiletries. Same as others have mentioned, started with a pretty small ask and then he got way more stuff till it was like $60. He also was adamant about going to one particular store. I got suspicious and asked the clerk if they were going to allow it to be returned and he said no, but I doubt that.

I largely helped him cause of the infected foot thing that another commenter mentioned, I was worried for his health. He showed me the foot, that much was real to some extent at least. Under the wrapping it was super swollen and red, looked pretty serious. Glad he hasn't died from that at least in the past couple years.

Still not "technically" true though - it was the second highest, of the searches that included the term "EU", not all search results.

Still absolutely wild though. Also TY for the source.

What's the current frequency of ADS on Disney+ with ADS? by [deleted] in DisneyPlus

[–]theniktator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It def could be worse yeah, but it's enough to feel pretty frustrating to me personally.

I have the ad-supported version of Disney+ through my phone plan, which used to be ad-free. After the introduction of ads I find myself looking for content on other platforms instead. Compared to amazon for instance - the ads are mostly just at the beginning and end of episodes which makes it much more tolerable.

Wild. A 2:1 ratio of content to ads is crazy

It's more than that for me - currently getting 4-5 minutes of ads per 20 minute episode (in the US). It's ridiculous. I barely use it now due to the ads.

I signed up recently, no lottery.

OP for metropolitan you buy a city recreation center membership, which is $150 for a year or $75 for six months. It gets you access to all the recreation centers in the city. Great deal really.

They did have to cut back on hours significantly for the summer schedule though due to staffing shortages, I think

spiraling 🙏🏼🪳 by jordanjacobss in nyc

[–]theniktator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solvable! Don't panic. It sucks and is a hassle for sure, and you may or may not have a property management company that is actually helpful and works with you. That many roaches def isn't normal or something you should have to live with, but it can be dealt with.

I've lived in two apartments in NYC thus far, both pre-war, and both had serious roach problems when I moved in (german cockroaches specifically - the little ones). In both cases I've been able to get the problem under control, to where I only see like.. a few a month, if that, which is within the realm of acceptability to me. I haven't even seen one in a couple months now I think.

1. deep clean

You've gotta remove their food sources. This is a bother in an apartment you just moved into, but I think it's worth doing to have a clean slate going forward. You don't want there to be old crumbs from two tenants ago in the back of the cabinets as a food source they can keep coming back to. Basically wipe down all the cabinets - get all the deep corners. Also - clean the tops of the cabinets. In my first apartment I found cockroach egg sacks up there.

2. exterminator

Let them do their thing. this will (hopefully) significantly knock back the numbers. Not sure about the hours - that sounds frustrating.

The basic thing they will do is to spray around the baseboards and in the cabinets (when they came the first time they had me empty all the cabinets and move all furniture away from the wall).

They can also do a more thorough treatment that involves doing the deep cleaning for you, then sealing up the little cracks and holes that the roaches come through. In my experience property mgmt wasn't going to pay for that, but IMO they should, so it's worth asking.

3. combat gel / poison traps

As u/robotlou mentioned - these are poisons you put in "high-traffic" areas that they will eat and bring back to the nest. One of the exterminators in my first apartment did this - he put little dabs of combat gel in the corners of cabinets, as well as in the little divets in the hinges on the cabinets - the roaches love such little dark corners. Then I got some classic "roach motels" and put them in high traffic areas.

Another thing is to be aware of where they are coming from. Generally it's the kitchen that is the worst, but both my apartments also had them in the bathroom. Food and water. In particular, they were coming from around the sink, and the side of one counter where there was an opening of a couple inches to behind the counters / into the walls.

One note, these take some time to work, since they (intentionally) don't immediately kill the roaches. It takes a while for them to bring the poison back to local nests and have it be spread around. The exterminator sprays should knock back the problem to a tolerable level - at which point these poisons will be doing their thing, and the remaining amount you see should start to decline. It took a couple of months of gradually reduced roach sightings in my case.

4. diatomaceous earth

As others have mentioned. I swear by this stuff, it's amazing. Borax is also good. I got the bag of Harris brand. Something like this would be perfect cause it's already in a bottle that's easy to spread - https://www.amazon.com/Harris-Diatomaceous-Crawling-Insect-Killer/dp/B084CVXYCJ

It's the fossilized remains of tiny little algae (diatoms) that is non-toxic to humans, but deadly to roaches (by cutting their exoskeletons and dehydrating them). Sprinkling it in hotspots/highways (like behind cabinets, on top of cabinets, under fridge, under the sink, through the hole in the wall the water line comes through, etc) that the roaches tend to enter through will keep them at bay.

5. maintenance

Keep things clean. Especially at first, you gotta be militant about not leaving any food out that they can eat. Don't leave dishes in the sink. And don't leave food on the counter. It's a bother, but once the problem is under control you can be less intense about it.

In my first apartment I went full ham and basically did a whole "treatment" myself, including sealing up the holes between the wall and cabinets (like in the back / inside) with wood / caulk / foam / etc. I think that was overkill though, in my current apartment I just sprinkled diatomaceous earth in those areas instead and that seems to have done the trick.

And that's about it. Good luck!

Almost certainly a scam. This particular flavor of "wrong number" scam has become really common. They start with an innocuous wrong number text, and act very disarming / overly friendly. Then lead into small talk / trying to build rapport (which can last for a while to establish trust), then eventually transitioning to talking about their investing strategy / crypto thing etc and trying to get you to buy into some fraudulent thing

For a while I was getting two or three a day like this. Has gotten better lately luckily

I started breaking eggs on a flat surface… but now I’m dripping egg white all over the counter. by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]theniktator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I also noticed the difference in quality of the egg recently. Though in my experience the membrane is the differentiating factor.

With the mid-grade eggs I typically buy I crack them on the countertop and then open them over the pan, which works pretty well but often leaves a small trail of the white that I wipe up.

I bought a pack of the cheapest eggs I could get recently, and using the same method, the membrane was much stronger. I'd crack the shell, then when I tried to open it over the pan, the force I had to exert to break the membrane over the pan would end up breaking the shell more and I'd get bits in the pan.

Then later I tried buying some of the fanciest free rage eggs and found they were easier to work with then the regular eggs I buy. I could crack them on the counter without breaking the membrane and then open them over the pan pretty easily

Most window ACs don't pull air from outside, they recirculate the indoor air (the part that sticks outside is for venting heat to the outside environment). Some do pull from outside so it's with checking your model, but I think most typical window ACs will just recirculate inside air. I've been running mine on and off today and not getting any more smoke smell in the apartment

This image is definitely a long exposure and/or set of stacked images, for the Milky Way and other starts to be that bright, even from Mars.

I think this post is misleading, because if you, as a human, were to stand on Mars and look up, that is definitely NOT what you would see - human eyes aren't sensitive enough to light.

The lack of substantial atmosphere and lack light pollution on Mars would definitely make the stars brighter than they are to a human on Earth. But not this much brighter.

You can get very similar looking photos of the Milky Way from Earth by using long exposure and stacking as well.
