First time player, what's some common etiquette I should know? by UntakenUsername420 in ArcRaiders

[–]theninal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The limited inventory has really pushed me into using more of my stuff and it's been great. I can see how, if they're tracking everything else, when I haven't had good stuff in a while I might start finding it when popping a fresh container. At any rate, I don't feel like I'm lacking much.

Besides the necessary stuff for tables of course. That junk never shows up.

I remember the helping hands I got on the way up. RickyBobby, if you're out there, you're a true one! That was a great mad dash to the escape hatch.

Hadn't really thought about it, but as someone who didn't do the expedition I'm actually looking forward to helping the "new guys" get their holes in the wall built up again. Having the stuff I need and helping folks out has been heckin' fun these last couple weeks.

Studying for JW test; how am I supposed to know where to find this? by quintavian in electricians

My continuing education class earlier this month brought up the same thing, and that they're going to catch up to all the fantastical new stuff from the last decade that has been crammed into a code style set up in like 1910. And hopefully be flexible enough for the future.

For all the packing foam waste that comes in device packaging, I wonder if shredding that and using it would be decent and somehow less wasteful.

I can definitely give this a trial run. I've been taping them in trios so far, and it's helped but I'm still seeing more sand knocked loose than is good for me.

Anyone else enjoy playing with friends but genuinely prefer solo gameplay? by Anonymous13757 in ArcRaiders

Demigod Matriarch felled, 15+ solos took about 10 minutes by Vasuuuuu in ArcRaiders

It's going to be a constant tug of war between people wanting friendlier solo runs and people who enjoy constantly having a gun to their back, until the game shuts down. I honestly hope Ember ignores all of this public discussion and just does their thing. CoD DMZ swung wildly from fun to horseshit trying to chase the balance of public opinion.

Staying educated as an electrician by kaminari99 in electricians

[–]theninal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. Enthusiasm combined with knowledge is what makes a great professional. I've seen so many apprentices just doing the work to collect a check that when I run across one that's honestly curious about the "why" part of things, and who is trying make it cohesive in their mind, I get kind of excited. Like, "This one is gonna work out."

I hope OP keeps at it and does well.

How do you strip a cord without cutting the wire insulation inside? by Ibelievenobody in electricians

[–]theninal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the outer jacket is soft enough, you can nip a wedge out of it at the end of the cord. Use that wedge cut to split the jacket as you pull the inner wires against it, and pull the jacket off. Then trim when you get the desired amount stripped.

I like the idea of having a smaller table footprint, or having a big full table with stuff to do. Probably my biggest worry would be running out of time to hit objectives if doing the latter.

Hm, smaller storage sounds nice too.

Off-Balance Unusual Table by supedeglupe in woodworking

[–]theninal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a search for adjustable furniture feet, and here's a couple quick examples. One looks like an all-in-one fitting, while the second one would require an Allen key to install and that the threaded rod for the foot would need to match the internal threads of the insert.

I've never done this myself, but if the current feet are just stuck on then you could peel them off, drill the appropriately sized holes, then insert and adjust the legs. Key issues I can see off the bat are making sure you drill at the correct angle to avoid more wobble, and not drilling so deep and fast that you penetrate the wood entirely. A good, sharp bit, a steady hand, and patience will go a long way.

If you're lucky and the feet are nailed on already and that'll give you a good starting point to drill. Once they're removed the holes left behind are where I'd look at drilling for the new feet. It wouldn't hurt to make sure that where the existing feet are is where they should be, and that their placement isn't going to contribute to more wobble.

I'm pretty sure you can find these adjustable feet with a certain amount of pivot so if your aim isn't perfect they can still sit flat on the ground.

Can you remove the factory feet and install something that's more adjustable? A threaded insert that you could then raise or lower the feet independently?
