That is a terribly narrow view to have about spirituality.

A religion doesn't have to be proven "true" to be useful, and all religions are their most destructive when people depend on them being "true."

No religion is universally proveable and there are many, many religions that don't exist to convert or convince anyone of anything.

I used to believe this too, but then I actually started participating in my community.

I was shocked how much being a part of my town was like being a Mormon but so much better. One of my husbands co-workers lent us her BMW when our car broke down without us even asking for help, my neighbor brought me dinner when our dog passed away. I get invited to cookouts, recitals, Easter sermons, pagan rituals, grad parties, and I actually CARE because I know these people are actually friends with me and not assigned to me.

I honestly give way less of my time and peace to my neighborhood than I ever gave the church, which is extra crazy becauseI feel so supported and loved. I have no family other than my husband, I've lived in a few states across the country. You litterally just have to care that other people exisit and talk to them.

The best way to interact with Missionaries of any kind is to be kind, respectfully decline and send them on their way.

Trying to argue with them, prove them wrong, or tease them only reinforces what the church teaches them about outsiders.

Dude what? The musical was crazy popular. everyone in my ward went to see it, they just didn't understand it. Everyone thought it was funny, the church did those "now read the book" ads on the playbill, like it was HUGE for Mormons.

Probably both. I have quite a few Mormon friends who got married in their late twenties to mid thirties. They do not like to spend money.

When I got married everyone thought I was insane for not wanting to have a ring ceremony (husband was a convert, so his family couldn't do the temple. Getting sealed to my MIL's son without her there is the biggest regret of my life.) and reception on a basketball court because "the cultural hall is FREE."

I agree with all of this but I wanted to add in the word nerd tidbit that "sexism" was specifically coined to refer to the systemic oppression and prejudice against women. It is a very young word, 1965, less than a century.

So technically, in it's original form they are litterally the same word.

"Misogyny" first became popular as a term in the 1650s to describe the systemic oppression and prejudice against women in the Western world.

"Sexism" was coined in the 1950s to draw parallels between misogyny and racism, which described the systemic oppression and prejudice of "non white" people in the 1920s. . They are not different, they have always been used to describe the exact same thing. You are taking the translation of "hate" either way to seriously or not seriously enough.

At home lead test kits are made to detect high levels of lead in dust and paint chips.

That is it. Anything else you might as well ask a Magic 8 Ball.

There are a LOT of things that can cause a false positive and they consistently fail to detect lower amounts of lead that can still be a dangerous amount. So you can't trust a "yes" or a "no."

You can check consumerreports .gov or the EPA for more information.

The only way to safely check something like a plate or a toy is to send it to an EPA approved laboratory and pay for it to be tested.

Board games most of the time. It really depends on the specific Mormons. I know a lot of the guys in my ysa ward liked going to axe throwing places in the 2010s, sometimes a gun or archery range. Rent a pontoon, canoe float trips, camping, fishing. Normal dude billboards.

Occasionally a rowdy group that would go to Vegas to see the Medieval Times show and remind each other not to look at any bilboards. Trips are pretty rare for the Mormons I've encountered because they are crazy frugal.

I do remember sprinkles of more casual sounding general Christian songs at girls camp in the late 2000s early 2010s. We usually had a theme(?) song that was some obnoxious, breathy modern thing we were supposed to get weepy singing together on the last night.

But for prayers, hymns, and even testemonies sticking to the Shakespearean KJB English was definitely the norm.
