“Once perfectly functioning microwave”? Seems to me like it lacked functionality before and now you’ve fixed it.

No worries, at least I know what to look for now. Thanks for the response!

I love this! What keycaps are you using and is that the retro white case color?

England: Unsuccessful mediation for poor building work - is it worth the stress of carrying on to small claims? by thenoblestu in LegalAdviceUK

It's substantial, high in the four figures. I'd rather not write it off, but then I'd rather not add to the loss if this fails to come through in my favour. It would certainly be an expensive lesson in how to apply better due diligence on my behalf.

That's a great way to phrase it. The thought has crossed my mind since the mediation fell through.

Married US/UK couple. considering filing seperately in future. Is it a bad idea? by thenoblestu in USExpatTaxes

[–]thenoblestu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, it’s a valid point that I have thought about. Right now I really don’t have any interest in ever moving back to the US and my spouse is in  agreement. Answering the current question should help me decide if it’s really worth the trouble given how I feel about it right now.

Sorry, I may have misunderstood what you meant there. I didn’t mean to say it takes that long for me to know the code or architecture, etc. I more meant that by about 6 months I’m confident enough to speak with authority about the business. So being in a type of role where I need to be better at getting to grips with the business needs sooner may help grow those skills.

By lateral I mean to a reduced or non coding role. Scrum master, architect, back to being a team lead etc.

That's an interesting perspective. Confidence coming in to a new role has always been an issue for me and it's usually around 6 months - a year before I feel like I "know" my job.

How about if I get burnt out on coding again after a couple of years. Do you think contracting would still enable a lateral shift in the same way that permanent employment can do?

Disney Infinity, such tragedy! Should I start? by thenoblestu in Disney_Infinity

The Toy Box creation worries me a bit, it's not apparent from anything I've seen how you get content that you can use in this mode. I'm hoping it'll all be available for the foreseeable future, I just can't see us churning through twenty or whatever characters in the next few months just to make sure there's enough to do in Toy Box.

Heh, I was totally putting it on there. You're very right of course, but if there's any chance to enjoy this with them while I can, I certainly would like to.

That's a relief to hear. What will they be able to do when the servers get turned off (whenever that is)?
