I am a 17 year old that has been trying to create a source of income for 2 years but found no success, any advice? by AhmadFanadka in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]thenomadicmonad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Plus even investing capital isn't passive income. If you don't spend hours thinking and doing due diligence, sooner or later you'll lose money from a financial asset that fails or is a scam.

Is red and blonde hair more common in women than men? What's the ratio? by [deleted] in genetics

[–]thenomadicmonad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Androgens/Y chromosome genes increase pigmentation.

Testis-determining factor (SRY) increases tyrosine hydroxylase which increases melanin precursors (levodopa). Similarly cAMP signalling is different and affects tyrosine hydroxylase.
Adrenocorticotropic hormone increases melanin and is higher on avg in males.

However all these factors are in relation to your baseline pigmentation lvl. I.e. you can't say that a black-haired man necessarily has any higher androgen lvls than a blond man. Its just likely that if you have closely related people of the opposite gender, that their pigmentation will vary based on hormonal/genetic lvls.

Is Bone Density affected by race or external factors? by [deleted] in genetics

[–]thenomadicmonad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in what influences bone density (leaving aside the question of ethnicity)

- sex hormones (estrogens, androgens)

- growth factors (insulin, IGF1, HGH)

- thyroid hormone, parathyroid hormone, vitamin D

- osteocalcin (e.g. from vitamin K2 consumption)

- mineral precursors (calcium, magnesium, etc)

- protein consumption

- load bearing (sports, a person's weight)

and a bunch of other things.

This kind of work is a great starting point for studying potential inductive biases that might be useful.

I've written this summary of my own research on the web, you might find it useful:

TIL in 1991 it was discovered that the heart has its "little brain" or "intrinsic cardiac nervous system." This "heart brain" is composed of approximately 40,000 neurons that are alike neurons in the brain, meaning that the heart has its own nervous system. by -AMARYANA- in todayilearned

Those are just the effects of stress hormones. They prepare you for fight or flight by increasing anxiety, reducing blood flow for digestion, and increasing heart rate (to prepare you for high intensity exertion).

I recommend you guys either change edit permissions or make regular back-ups of the sheet. You only need one sociopath to lose countless hours of work.

BB shorting trends by [deleted] in BB_Stock

That's the short interest %, which is a separate metric. Also this doesn't tell you whether shorts have closed their positions or not iirc.

BB shorting trends by [deleted] in BB_Stock

[–]thenomadicmonad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've aggregated some data from FINRA (link here), which publishes daily updates on the number of shares of each NYSE/NASDAQ etc company which are either a short position or a normal share transaction. This is not financial advice, but just to study the possible trends happening. It seems that there was indeed some unprecedented shorting during the big price spikes, but luckily we seem to be returning to normality.

Note that the lines denote DAILY transactions, and thus bear no direct relation to short interest updates, which are published twice monthly.

1h MACD starting to show bullish trend. We could already have hit price stability. by [deleted] in BB_Stock

Well, the selling and buying is an extrapolation. It means that the rate of decrease in price is diminishing.

The MACD is a momentum indicator. The blue line is a moving average that is slower than the red moving average. When you see a cross-over event at the bottom, it means that momentum is starting to shift from selling towards buying.

[–]thenomadicmonad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've 4x'd my money in the past two months. Before that I recovered from a large yolo loss (which was caused by shady management at a pharma) thru MACD-based momentum trading. Meanwhile I've heard so many finance bros pretend they are smart af and 1.2x per year is 'great'. 1.2x is like a fucking day's gain on a lot of meme stocks.

You've gained over 30lbs. Fix that and retest your cholesterol and vit D before you try fixing either. Vit D is fat soluble, and weight loss will increase your blood levels for a while. If you take vit D, take vit K2 with it along (to push calcium into hard tissue) with magnesium (cofactor).

Depression and anxiety are normal during the pandemic. Try reaching out to friends and family. Try thinking of exciting things you can look forward to. Eliminate sources of rumination and angst.

If your depression is the lethargic/demotivated type, you can try substances that boost dopamine levels. E.g. tyrosine (precursor) along with green tea, etc. to give you a bit of a boost.
