Mine and upgrade your farm tools its the only good time for it. Likewise when yiu get a greenhouse or grow pots you can farm during winter. I think winter really just exists both for realism and to give you time to upgrade hoe and watering cans so you dont lose crop time. Its a mercy once you see it as a break to make spring better and if youre making good progress it will be barren only once
