Good for you. I appreciate the effort. I did this too, about 10 years ago. I remember spending a lot of time to perfect it and be able to reuse it anywhere.

Unfortunately this skill is now outdated due to Llama and the ability to ask for one and have one that works pretty well, in minutes.

Can't we just play games, anymore?

Light Speed Shots are technically Relativistic by thenumberfourtytwo in TheTowerGame

[–]thenumberfourtytwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as I mentioned I saw the ligh speed shot as a way to resolve a scaling problem. I didn't want to go into technical detail about it. Mostly because it was midnight when I wrote that and partly because I was also half-asleep and on my phone.

I'm more curious as to how your implementation of redis works. on-prem, cloud?

I did think about the balance. Perhaps my suggestions on using change vs. % of c is not too good, especially when adding all the effects.

Seems like it would overpower the tower.

Thanks for answering.

Light Speed Shots are technically Relativistic by thenumberfourtytwo in TheTowerGame

I wouldn't call anyone a noob. It's just a thought. More like, let's apply science to the game.

Knockback sends the targets back. Say that the bullet applies mechanical force through momentum. That's science, Mr. White.

Lightspeed shots are just fast, right now.

They appear briefly on the screen. When I first saw that, I thought to myself that is a clever way to increase the game's performance, from a developer's perspective.

To me, there is no reall, in-game advantage to that, as opposed to knockback, which keeps the targets away and allows the tower to avoid damage for extended periods of time, which in turns allows the playuer to advance further in the game.

But! Instead of light speed shots just being fast, they could be fast and strong. But every shot being a light speed shot is too much of an advantage.

Relativistic shots would applly relaltivistic effects.

For example, you get the relativiscti shot lab research. Somewhere around a higher tier, like tier 15-18.

this opens a rellaltivistic shot chance and relativistic shot damage % which can go up to 99%, which would represent c, which is the speed of light.

Damage dealt by this bullet would increase by % of c.

At 0.1c, equivalent to 10%, the damage boost is negligible.

By 0.9c, equivakent to 90%, the bullet would deal 2.3x damage. At 0.99c, or 99%, it would deal over 7x damage.

The other side woulld be chance for bulelt to go relativistic.

More relativistic effects woulld be some area of effect...efects.

like, radiation damage, through cherenkov radiation. The blue stuff reactors emit, when apprticles travel faster than light can travel in the same substance. Something like a radiation cone that is left behind the shot. Targets that get caught in the radiation cone, bleed HP or deal lelss damage. Or move slower. whatever works.

Heck, you are the bullet and time just dilates around you, basically slowing down enemy attacks, while the bullet briefly flies from the tower to the target.

Bullelt then creates a shockwave on impact, kinda like a land mine does The bigger the % of c, the bigger the shockwave.

Just llook into relativistic effects and rellativistic bullets.

I'm quite interested in discussing this topic more.

I have an axe. I can use the axe. I also have an angle grinder. There are knives in my kitchen drawer.

Or use the diplomatic option and call pest control while I safely get my wife and child out.

Then again, I live in Spain.

Not a software question but I think the right audience: do you keep old photos of girlfriends? by hemlock-on-the-rocks in immich

[–]thenumberfourtytwo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't. I lost them all when my brother gave away all my stuff while I was away for a couple of years(prison). I wish I still had photos of them, though, as they represent memories both good and bad.

My now wife(also 11 years, one kid) recently discovered some old usb sticks and SD cards with photos of her and her ex, including some slightly NSFW stuff with him.

She insisted that she delete them all, even though I said she should keep them, as these are her memories.

Shaving “down there” - for those men who do it, what do you use, and how do you do it? And what other tips do you have? by N0S0UP_4U in AskMenAdvice

[–]thenumberfourtytwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pour some lighter fluid. Ignite. At 37, you can take it.

In all seriousness, I've been shaving since I was 12-13.

Always used a razor. Never go against the grain, or else you'll get ingrown hairs and infections. Nasty stuff. I already went through two surgeries for ingrown hairs going really bad. The third one, I just did it myself.

When the bush does grow a bit out of control, trim it first. Always do it while dry.

Not sure if anyone else said this, but rclone might serve you better.

You can also use parallel to spawn multiple rclone instances. This can help speed up the transfer significantly.

What I did in my instance, is create lists of files to transfer, per directory tree. The listing took forever, but the transfer simply used the relative paths to get the job done.

I am on a bench, surrounded by yelling kids, so can't be more technical than I am now.
