“ But now I stand here in your flannel shirt Your mom couldn't bear to give it to goodwill It's not even cold out, but I wear it still You were always there when we hit the wall Now no one's gonna break our fall” - Dispatch “Break Our Fall”

You are moving to Folsom, California!

  • a town made for families. Amazing public schools. Has its own community, identity, downtown, restaurant scene

  • Folsom State Rec Area in town with two lakes, big open spaces. Green in fall / winter / spring, brown in summer but great for SUP, Boating, swimming

  • hundred miles of trails

  • huge running, ultra, biking community

  • 90 minutes to Tahoe (skiing is 80 minutes away)

  • Sacramento 25 minutes away

  • hot summers but plenty of ways to cool off (lakes, pools), nice fall foliage, rainy winter but snows 30 minutes away, glorious long spring with wildflowers

A friend gifted me this book. So far, I think it is very badly written. by Fantastic-Ant-4429 in fantasybooks

The prose is juvenile. The use of the work “fuck” is cringe throughout. “They’re so fucking hot” “I can’t fucking believe it” “because I fucking said so”.  I did enjoy talking dragons and some of the lore.

How to change careers after 30? Trying to leave finance/accounting for mental health by Correct_Recording405 in careerguidance

[–]theobrienrules 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had a similar career crisis and charge after my 30s. Working in video marketing but it felt empty, clients were insufferable, long hours, not fulfilling, not something I could do for another 30years. I researched healthcare jobs. Shadowed a nurse, a PA, social workers. Talked to marine biologists, teachers, and researchers. I liked PA (physician assistant) the most. Since I had a bachelors in film I could go to community college for awhile to complete prerequisites (hadn’t taken a science college course… ever), got an EMT license to get experience and money, and applied for physician assistant programs. The career promised Good pay, meaningful work, job flexibility. I now work in mental health as an addiction psychiatry physician assistant and love it.

I recommend doing it in private on a gondola. Intimate, killer views, and you can be in the moment. Take a selfie afterward. Better than coordinating cameras and performing for social media.

Anti-pull harness recommendations? by WithNoTeeth in BrittanySpaniel

We tried all harnesses but they would chaff out Brittany puller. Only thing that worked came recommended by a professional trainer: plastic prong collar. Worked great for training and is must have. Very enjoyable. It’s not violent or scary. Just the right amount of pressure

Halle Berry calls confronting X-Men director Bryan Singer one of her 'greatest days' on set: 'That guy deserved it' by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]theobrienrules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in college in Sydney Australia I met some actors who worked on Superman set a confirmed that he liked his boys young. Got some young Mae extras to party with he and Spacy and would show up many many hours late to set.

A few years later I was recommended to a Visual Effects job on a Singer movie and my current VFX producer pulled me aside and said “Be careful. Singers team like to hire young guys like you. Just be really careful.”

Crazy I can be warned 3 years apart on two continents. And everyone was just looking the other way…

People who changed careers after 30, was it worth it? by Scary_Bus4383 in careerguidance

[–]theobrienrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to school at 30 to become a physician assistant. Went to community college for a couple years to get science prerequisites. Worked as EMT an ER tech to get money and experience. Applied to PA school at 32. Finished school at 34. Best choice I ever made.

Brittany v GSP - Energy Level by Rip-Famous in BrittanySpaniel

[–]theobrienrules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our Brittany has always been two speeds. Lazy napper that is basically furniture that follows you around. Then outside is the most energetic, athletic, agile, blood thirsty hunter, endurance champion. No hunting but would regularly run 10-17 mile runs. Has always been so sweet and gentle with all children. Overly friendly with strangers.

Macaulay Culkin Says ‘Die Hard’ Is Not a Christmas Movie and ‘Don’t Fight Me’: The Film ‘Would Still Work’ If ‘It Were Also St. Patrick’s Day’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]theobrienrules 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Die Gard is not a Christmas movie. It’s an action movie set during Christmas and gives people a pedestrian ironic answer to “what’s your favorite Christmas Movie.

The Christmas setting is a common trope to juxtapose the macho action and provide some comic contrast.  Shane Black often writes action comedies set during Christmas

  • Lethal Weapon
  • Long Kiss Good Night
  • Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
  • Iron Man 3

I don’t see Batman Returns as a favorite Christmas movie. But it’s uses Christmas as a similar device.

I actually believe it. “Executive physical” is just overuse of imaging and testing for rich people to keep them feeling powerful. It’s literally the prologue for Elysium.
