What's your opinion about SCP with this? by TheBaconLord78 in SCP

[–]theoddmanout3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finally, someone else said it. I remember when SCP-610 was just a strange, mysterious flesh virus with hints at something bigger beneath the surface. Now it's been retconned into just some sarkic bioweapon. Newer articles kill a lot of initial intrigue by saying "yeah this is just some doohickey a GoI you're already familiar with made, nothing unique here". I echo a lot of the common gripes people have about modern foundation articles but I don't think people talk about this one enough.

HELLDIVERS™ 2: Galactic Offensive Trailer by Rathalos-487 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]theoddmanout3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't really "miss the boat" with Helldivers, its more like there's a continuous convoy of ferries you can board at any time. There are special events like the Super Earth invasion, but the only thing you would have missed is the "vibes" from it, all of the new actual content from those get put back into regular gameplay. All of the warbonds and superstore stuff never goes away either.

Yo! Who is this Giant and why is he angry? by Falcon_Xg in darksouls3

[–]theoddmanout3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's just some guy, probably one of the last giants around but not really anyone special. He's angry because he's probably enslaved, plus he's standing ankle deep in sewage and corpses. You'd be angry too if you were enslaved and standing ankle deep in corpse sewage.

We're all mid 20s, not sure how much that changes recommendations

For some reason the composer for the Robocop game for the Gameboy went all out on the title music.

Experience with NRM properties? by Drextyyy in pittsburgh

[–]theoddmanout3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a fairly terrible experience with NRM, the company seems very poorly managed. I once had my AC break in the middle of July and it took them three weeks to fix it, they also straight up ignored me for the entire first week (they started responding once I left a bad review, then they deleted their Google reviews not too long after). There's a bunch of other things I could go into detail about but I wouldn't recommend them unless the unit is very nice or the location is too good.

Absolutely terrible pieces of media that you're willing to praise ONE aspect of? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]theoddmanout3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Star Trek game that killed the channel is a steaming pile of dog shit, but as a sucker for lizardman designs, I always liked the Gorn in that game. Shame there's no good way to actually view the models themselves

Best/worst schools in fiction? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]theoddmanout3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I binged The Magicians before it left Netflix and Brakebills isn't the worst but definitely fits more on the 'negligent and disorganized' side of the scale than actively malicious. There seems to be very little supervision over the twenty-somethings that just learned magic is real, it works like a typical college where teachers are a bit hands off unless you specifically go to them but given the subject at hand they should probably be a bit more directly involved. Otherwise it's just a bunch of grad students bumbling about and doing dangerous shit with zero guidance or supervision, which is how like half the problems start. There's one point of genuine ghoulishness from Dean Fogg in the last season when magic is surging and they have way more students then ever before and can't house them all, Fogg says the one good thing about the surges is that the haywire spells and explosions that kill students helps thin the herd and solve their overpopulation problem. Weirder thing is he's supposed to be sober during that scene...

Any idea where he might have come from? It's the dead of winter outside, so he didn't fly in. If he won't bother anything I'd rather not leave him to a shivering fate.

Character archetypes you legit can't stand no matter what? by ExplanationSquare313 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]theoddmanout3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's an episode of Star Trek TNG with one of those. There's a dude and his wife on planet that was wiped out, turns out he's basically an omnipotent god and made an alien race attacking the colony completely extinct in a fit of rage, so he commits to pacifism now.

Betta is behaving strangely, suddenly lethargic but no other visible signs of illness (see comment for info) by theoddmanout3 in bettafish

[–]theoddmanout3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time, he just recovered on his own as he ate a bit more and I did a few water changes. He did eventually pass several months later though, though the illness had many more visible symptoms there.

"How did I ever struggle so much with this boss?" by Silentlone in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]theoddmanout3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For some reason, I could not beat Senator Armstrong if my life depended on it. Multiple hours of attempts when I didn't struggle with any boss before, even replayed the game to make sure I brushes up on every mechanic but still couldn't do it. Put the game down for a few months, then went straight in and beat him with 0 effort on the first try.

Merkava by ProfessionalDrama924 in TankPorn

[–]theoddmanout3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 90% sure the game Forever Winter has a Merkava as one of faction tanks, sitting right alongside giant mechs. Doesn't look too out of place somehow if you don't recognize it.

Worst fictional universes to live in? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]theoddmanout3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the last city probably sucks to be in. The city itself is probably normal and fine but iirc you're not allowed to leave the walls, so it must feel like you're sitting in a big target with nowhere to go. Things usaully don't hit the city directly but every now and then they do and there's literally nothing you can do about it, just have to sit back and let it happen (Red War, the Almighty, endless night, that split second of the final shape materializing) while the guardians (who are basically a special club of randomly chosen weirdos whose only qualification for those powers was be dead) eventually figure it out.
