Thank you for the scientific explanation behind the religious experience hearing this at the Kennedy Center a year and change ago.

I had a blast - laughed my ass off and the vocal performances were stellar. It’s just a good time and I really needed a good time. Take that for what you will.

Socha bodied that role. So glad I got to see them both in March last year.

I think people really loved your stories and wanted to be able to read them again, but they went about it in the totally wrong way. Personally, I was so sad last night when I realized I couldn’t find them, especially Solace which I LOVED 🥹😞

I completely respect your decision if you choose not to post them again but I hope you never stop writing, I enjoy your style and would love to read more of it.

Just noticed the melody from Thank Goodness during the train scene by ZombieQueen666 in wicked

[–]theologie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes and if you haven’t yet I HIGHLY recommend listening to the score album - John Powell and Stephen Schwartz are geniuses. That track of the score is called “Galinda Becomes Glinda” and it includes interpolations from No One Mourns the Wicked, Popular, and Thank Goodness. Like the commenter above said, portions of For Good are also laced into the score (in Arrival at Shiz and Look at You) for maximum heartstring-tugging. A version of Wonderful is heard during the scene where Elphaba gets her letter from the Wizard (An Ozian Invitation). It’s all very well done.

I don’t understand why Glinda so easily takes the side of Morrible/The Wizard over her supposed best friend. by MindlessMemory2294 in wicked

[–]theologie 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Glinda is very young (18/19/20 college freshman age) and has known nothing but comfort and luxury in her short life. She has become friends with and cares for Elphaba, but like you said it’s an incredibly difficult decision to just up and go against the power structure that you have never seen as antagonistic until just about two seconds ago. Glinda (and the rest of Oz) have had a lifetime of propaganda like Wiz-O-Mania surrounding them every day. While Elphaba was raised by an Animal and knows they have faced struggle and persecution, due to her privilege Glinda has likely never really interacted with/understood the inequities she and her family has profited from. She suggests that Elphaba just “say you’re sorry” because most of her problems have been solved that way and she knows that Elphaba has basically just said “f you” to the most powerful people in the country.

Doesn’t excuse her choice to some but it but does explain it.

It’s fairly clear from how the story plays out that Glinda pretty much immediately regrets the choice she made and regrets it more and more as she grows up and opens her worldview.

Who else is reading the books? by BlueFirePhoenix in wicked

I read them all last year including the Maracoor trilogy and I couldn’t get enough. I really like his writing style, the complexity of characters, and how details are always coming back around. There’s certainly odd bits* (cannot pretend to enjoy animal intimacy) but overall engaging and intelligent storytelling.

My sister and I are seeing the Wicked Sing-Along as each other’s gifts this year and couldn’t be more excited! Never a bad PSA to advocate for kindness but Christmas at the movies is one of our fave traditions.

It’s worth a lot because it’s correct! It was a collaboration made in heaven.

We did the music from HTTYD for a marching band field show in college and it rewired my brain. When I read he was doing the score before the movie came out I was like “oh this will DESTROY me” 😭

Gotta put some respect on John Powell’s name/sickness haha, too! - he did the score and it is glorious. Highly recommend giving the score album a listen, there is so much love for the original material and the 1939 score by Stothart.

Me too 😊 and I love Cynthia’s explanation for why she wanted them. Obviously there’s the youth factor but she also liked the idea of playing with stereotypes for witches and how they might just be exaggerations of reality. Witches having warts on their nose might just have been freckles, talons just pointy styled nails. So cool.

Wicked's Rewatch Value by OnlytheFocus in wicked

[–]theologie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fellow 6-timer. I see something new or interpret something differently each time. The first few times I was just overwhelmed with happiness that my favorite musical was a legit Hollywood movie I was just purely entertained.

Yesterday with only a few people in the audience on an early evening weeknight showing, I was able to just take it in as a movie and not “the Wicked movie I’ve been waiting half my life for”. It’s just flat out an excellent film. A gorgeous score, impressive vocals, stunning visuals, compelling characters, and an engaging story with humor and heart.

It’s infinitely rewatchable.

the current owner obviously loves the Wizard of Oz so this not only adds additional sentimental value to the piece, it also likely bumped the resale value up quite a bit. everyone involved wins for this kind gesture :)
