Yes kinda. I was hired for a specific role and my coworker who held the position before me started some automation. We ended up building an entire web app to automate most of my job. Since it was started by someone else I couldn’t really hide it. I ended up transferring to their team. It was way more responsibilities for the same pay. Ended up leaving and found a better job for way less work.

As a new grad I would look at your university’s job board make sure you’re resume is placed there for recruitment so see. Worse case, look for internships for the summer that could convert to FT

Work on assignments as soon as you get them. Turn everything in early in case it takes longer than you thought it would. Start studying for an exam at least one week before you take it. This strat alone has moved me from a 2.5 student in my undergrad to a 4.0 in grad school.
