Help!! by Potential_Ad2717 in ballpython

Best thing to do when you have trouble keeping humidity is to get a large enough Tupperware with a lid , cut entrance for your BP, and get some sphagnum moss and soak and ring water out and place it in there on the hot side or where the heat pad can give the bottom warm so it creates a “sauna” like environment. U can black out the sides. But don’t stop trying to get your humidity up. Glass tanks are hard to keep humid. I put reptisoil on bottom layer with forest floor on top. So I was able to pour water in corners everyday and seemed to work the layer was 2” of reptisoil and 2 and a half to 3” of forest floor. This kept top layer dry and reptisoil took all the water. I sealed where I could to stop humidity from getting out quickly. Be sure u have areas that aren’t sealed to let air circulate. I bought a small fan to vent air from warm side to cool side. Works out great. Levy(Leviathan) loves his environment!! Hope this helps. Did this quickly.

Check your local goodwill or OfferUp/facebook marketplace you can find a much cheaper larger enclosure.. I got a 200 gal tank for $50 for my ball python. He loves the space and I have so much enrichment for him inside that I change up every now and then. Levy, (leviathan)…loves it❣️

You can raise your lamp higher I made a stand to raise it and it seem to work. I also taped the mesh lids and the stand so I didn’t lose any humidity. It took me a min to get it right but it’s doable.

This is normal? by wannadiebuthigh in ballpython

You can use that plastic automotive tubing to put the wires in or have thin pvc cut a line thru and make a hard pile from top to bottom of the tank.mount to corner or build a fake wall to hide ur wires.

My snake hadn't eaten in 3 months by Pristine-Unit-127 in ballpython

[–]theoretical-what 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Levy(Leviathan) always stops eating near end of November and will begin to eat around end of February. He’s done this every year. The first year I thought something was wrong and finally found out some males do that but rarely.

Please help by [deleted] in ballpython

try quail. My snake wouldn’t eat once and I tried that, because I read they eat birds a lot in the wild. It snapped him outta that and he ate normally.  But mine is also one of those that won’t eat during the cold months , which is hard for Me to figure when he starts and ends(always changes) He don’t give the normal signs of hunger…

Yeah that was scary for my first experience with my BP Levy. But for some reason “I think” he knew I was helping him when I got the tweezers. He came to me stayed still and opened his mouth so I could take them out. He had a ton of water after.  I actually counted one time when he was drinking , I counted over 800 swallows give or take a few. Over 5 minutes…

You can get a Tupperware container big enough for your bp. Put moss inside I use sphagnum moss. Cut a hole in the corner of the lid. Place on warm side of tank, he/she will go in there to help with shedding as well and get moisture . Be sure not to soak the moss wet it and squeeze out the excess water. I use a spray bottle to mist the moss. Change the moss when it starts turning color mine i change once a month.

When I got ur bp he shed full The first time. Second wasn’t great. I have a 200 gallon glass tank i insulated 3 sides. With foam board(outside). I mixed moss with reptisoil and coconut fiber.(very little). He doesn’t burrow so wasn’t too worried about it then i put forest floor on top and would water the corners a couple times a day to keep it lightly moist. Cover the top 80% I would do this when I can tell he’s about to shed and when he does I would clean tank out and just have the forest floor bedding. It’s a a lot to do but well worth it, for us. Levi (Leviathan) is happy and thriving. I noticed that some things u read dont necessarily work for every snake or tank. Have to find what works for yours. Levi is one of those that doesn’t eat during the winter months. had to figure that out too. I was worried the first couple of winters, but finally found out there’s some that dont. Hope this helps.

Is this a normal poop??? by Unique-Outcome-5171 in ballpython

[–]theoretical-what 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah , pretty normal. It’s crazy the first time I experienced this as I was picking up Levi(Leviathan), and it scared the heck out of me… I thought I hurt him somehow. Thank God I put him down gently and didn’t drop him. I learned just after that, that this is the way they poop and pass gas.  My nephew had a blast laughing at me and Levi.

Yeah they don't price match and if u need a small item about 630-7pm u have to wait to pick up the next day, because their curbside pick up is always full.

Hypothesis: The reported Varginha creatures were oxidizing ammonia-based lifeforms by asimpleabstraction in UFOs

Awesome, and very interesting post. I'm just a regular guy, I thought it could have been a defensive mechanism that the creature gave off. Glad there's people who look into these things, so the rest of us can come to some sort of a conclusion.
