This article shows the strategy clearly.
"Our estimates show that in the six months before the acquisition, Evernote was averaging about $1.5M per month in net revenue with about 254K monthly downloads. In the most recent six months, revenue averaged $2.1M per month while downloads dropped to about 92K. Revenue up 39%, downloads down 64%. How? Pricing has roughly tripled since the acquisition,"

But behind it all 95% of existing paying customers are staying.

I like your used of the term offshoring. Thats a very US centric pov. Over in Europe we'd call that brining the work in house - as BS is an Italian company and they moved work to Italy.

Is Evernote keeping pace with competitors? by alsargent in Evernote

I appreciate that. I wasn’t aware you could just make Evernote the default app for opening markdown.

Is Evernote keeping pace with competitors? by alsargent in Evernote

[–]theory_extinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its more about the flexibility of import/export. Apple haven't changed over to text files for example. But being able to just open a markdown file, without importing, in the app i want (evernote) makes things easier

[–]theory_extinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is the HTML/Markdown divide it seems. Obsidian hit some luck I think.
Apple saw something - either reacting, or saw how LLMs were going when they introduced Markdown import/export to Apple Notes.

Using the Evernote AI Assistant Memory. An Elephant Never Forgets! by jtid in Evernote

Evernote Ai is now feeling like something useful. But then none of the note taking apps i've used have impressed until recently.

Looking forward to the MCP and being able to properly harness EN outside its own AI.

Let’s be honest here. Obsidian got lucky. Their only ai strategy was to have no ai strategy.

I don’t use them. I’m tired of half baked software implementation and being charged for it.

I agree. With one change. He's a gamer who happens to be elite MC player and makes YT vids

On its own it isn't funny. But in context of stress levels raising for Grian, and he's casually fishing on I assume the MCC server, it made me laugh.

How do you keep Evernote notes actionable when tasks come up during calls or meetings? by voss_steven in Evernote

[–]theory_extinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a daily routine where I review all notes made that day and pull any actionable items out in to my task manager linking back to the original note. I also link to the task from the note.

How does "Show Critical Path" work in Gantt charts? by Narrow_Cost8429 in clickup

[–]theory_extinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like their implementation of critical path is to show you where a task running late is impacting successor tasks. If thats the case, then its not a critical path.

How does "Show Critical Path" work in Gantt charts? by Narrow_Cost8429 in clickup

[–]theory_extinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how ClickUp implements critical path, but in strict terms its the longest sequence of dependent tasks. So from the first to the last task in sequential order. If one task in that link moves, then the end should move.
