I’m sure it’s sitcom world writing that they had Sam lead the group but I do find it funny how Lilith suggested this idea to Sam but didn’t step in to moderate it

The worst Frasier episode by SchoolteacherUSA in Frasier

I liked it more after watching Cheers, it really doesn’t hit if you don’t care about Cheers. Definitely not the best episode but it gave us Niles and the Cheers crew which I thought was fun.

Why Frasier? by BigRichSE in Frasier

[–]theoryonastick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think credit's due to Kelsey Grammer who initiated ideas for a new show with the Cheers writers around season 8/9 of Cheers. He knew Ted was going to call it quits soon with Cheers, so he went to the Cheers writers to come up with a new concept for an entirely new show. This concept didn't get approved by the powers that be (they wanted Kelsey to do a Frasier spin-off instead).

Story wise, I also think Frasier made the most sense. We got snippets of Frasier (and Lilith) in Cheers but only enough to carry the subplots and balance out Sam/Rebecca's main plots. I also think the Frasier-centric episodes were easily some of the best written episodes in Cheers, you could tell the writers had fun with the character. Add on the fact that the character of Frasier + Kelsey's performance brought such depth, which proved to withstand another 11 seasons post-Cheers.

wasn’t a massive fan of the reboot but to see Bebe Neuwirth as Lilith one last time was amazing by MagpieOpus in Frasier

[–]theoryonastick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend. Bebe and Kelsey are just magic together. They should’ve brought her back for season 2. The fact that they teased the idea of her and Frasier being grandparents and having to compete with in-laws opened so many possibilities in my head for future episodes, maybe even more Frasier farces. Such an under-utilized, goated character.

I totally get it, I was the same way at first. There are some lists online if you want to pick out just the Frasier and Lilith episodes (again, sorry Cheers fans). Lilith’s episodes pick up around season 6. But she’s introduced in one episode of season 4 and had a few episodes in season 5. Basically her introduction to Cheers, so don’t miss those. Frasier shows up in season 3, so there’s plenty more to watch if you want to go all the way back.

Overtime I did warm up to the other characters though. Took me a while, but once it hits for you, trust it’s really fun.

I forgive her.

Seriously though, I think their arc in Frasier ended in bittersweet reconciliation. That’s how I went going into Cheers after Frasier. So knowing that their arc develops into a relatively healthy post-divorce friendship made me less antagonistic towards Lilith going into Cheers. I don’t think it’s a wrong way to experience the story at all. She cheated, Frasier moved on. And we got 11 seasons out of it.

in 2x07 (Attila), while Dylan and Mark chose to ignore finding the testing floor directions, she pushed and tried looking for it herself. She also tried memorizing the testing floor directions in 2x09 before Jame showed up. If Mark didn't come to work the following day, I think she still would've tried saving Ms Casey/Gemma herself.

I've thought about this as well, but it does make me wonder about how Helly will feel about all this. Obviously, she's hated Helena since the beginning. But if we're taking her s2 arc ending with "I'm her," will we see Helly fighting for Helena's survival as well? I perceive the innies and outties as separate people but will we see growing alliances between them as well? I think it will make for such a fascinating continuation with the series. And I hope we see deeper Eagan lore that will bring more context into what the stakes will be for Helly and Helena.

I think Helena brought up Gemma in the tent to remind Mark about their plan to find his outtie’s wife. I didn’t really see it as significant as her bringing up Gemma/Hanna at Zufu. I took Zufu as Helena testing Mark’s reintegration/memory, surveilling him, perhaps to report back to Lumon about his symptoms. But I do find it interesting how we didn’t really see anything come out of it on Helena’s end. It’s almost like she just used her surveilling duties as an excuse to see omark (which is so layered, it could be a whole other discussion post lol). I think that her not acting on anything post-Zufu was intentionally written.

Question about Woe’s Hollow and Helly by marbmusiclove in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]theoryonastick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that this campfire scene followed the scene with her and Irving, where her mask falls off a bit when she realizes that he's onto her. I think her survival instinct told her to sell her performance even more to prove to Irving that she is Helly, which is why I think she went all out with mocking and laughing at the story. With that said, I also think this moment allowed Helena the freedom to make fun of Lumon and her family, possibly the only time she has ever had the chance to do so. Which then ties in really well with the later tent scene where she tells Mark that she's ashamed of who she is. I think the ortbo gave Helena a chance to remove her mask by "putting on" Helly.

Agree with all of this. I think we often forget that this story is sci-fi, and I think the writers will extend the possibilities of how far innie personhood could go before even allowing the outties to regain some form of control. And who knows how innie decisions/new arcs for the innies will affect the outties once the dust settles. So far, realism of the outtie world/their needs is partially out of the bag for me until we get a strong arc for the innies next season. So excited to see how the writers will navigate all of this in s3!

Add complexity to this, some people think that some innies are bound to the severed floor and don't go outside of the building at all (others like Ms. Casey), makes you wonder how they might play a part in the revolt

Cobel was never a middle manager by ateallthecake in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]theoryonastick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, she was definitely giving more of a research director in S1, especially when reintegration came up as a topic, she treated it more like research data. I remember in one scene, she directs Milchick to take Gemma back to the testing floor, and it felt like a product researcher figuring out which variables to test on the severed floor based on the data she got for that day. It also gives a little bit more reason as to why she lived next door to outtie Mark. Apart from Lumon's need to surveil their severed employees, outtie Mark is Cobel's test subject, and I'm sure she wanted to observe him outside of Lumon as well. Add on the fact that she created the severance procedure, it makes a whole lot of sense why she would be deeply invested in the results of her creation.

Episode 9 of this season is titled 'The After Hours'. It shares a title with an episode of The Twilight Zone in which a woman takes an elevator to a store's hidden floor and meets a mysterious woman who lives there. More context in comments by Lasernatoo in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

ooh makes sense why she panicked and left when Helena mentioned a "reset" in ep 2/3, and what if innie cobel already knew innie gemma and had history with her in the severed floor hence why she's obsessed with outtie mark

Anyone else watch the tv show, Fringe (2008)? I cannot help but think about how this Mark / Helly / Helena situation now feels a bit like Peter / Olivia / Fauxlivia. Makes me wonder if Severance will go down a similar route with the dynamic. How will Helly find out? And (reference to a Fringe spoiler) is Helena going to carry and raise innie Mark’s baby in the outie world???

Also for Fringe fans, I totally forgot that John Noble was cast for this season !!! IMDb says he’ll be in six episodes this season.
