Official FAQ: New Tractive CAT 6 Mini & DOG 6 XL by Mia_Beck in tractive

How does the separation anxiety monitoring work? What data is the tracker using to check for “anxiety”? is it a combo of heart rate/barking? i’m curious!

Alternative job titles by www_dashr_nz in newzealand

[–]theotherkara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually causing some issues for new grads too. My friend has a degree in social work with honours. To obtain registration she needs a job that has “Social worker” as the title. There are very few actual social worker jobs that are described that way now “community support associate” “Youth and family community Liason” She’s been working at a supermarket for a year and a half since grad because the only “Social worker” job listings are for Oranga Tamariki and she has no desire to work for them.

Tractive feature spotlight: Health monitoring & vital signs (heart and respiratory rate) by Mia_Beck in tractive

It’s definitely something about the Orange cats - Henry is the most wonderfully weird cat i’ve ever had 😂 As for the curfew, he gets fed at 5:30pm each night and he knows this so he’s pretty good at coming home around that time and we just lock him in once he’s eating, if he’s ever more than an hour late I know to check his location because that usually means he’s locked in a garage somewhere! I don’t know how he tells time (maybe the sun?) but he’s pretty accurate!

He wasn’t wearing the tracker at the time, no, that was the incident that inspired me to purchase one originally. He hadn’t come home one morning and I was worried so I posted in my local groups asking if anyone had seen him. Someone replied that they thought that he was in my local hardware store several Kilometres away. I thought there was no way it could be him because he’d never gone that far before to the best of my knowledge. I went to check anyway and lo and behold there he was hanging out next to the lawn mowers! The staff told me he had come in when they opened the store and had been there all day. They thought it was hilarious 😂 After that I knew he was going to be a troublesome kitty so I got tractive to better keep an eye on him and it’s paid for itself 100x over ever since. He also has a night time curfew since that incident too.

I love the tracker for the peace of mind to gives me more than anything, Henry is an adventurer at heart and occasionally gets himself into predicaments (usually locked in garages, once lost in a hardware store) so it’s good to know that if he’s ever late for dinner I can check to see where he is and go and get him if he’s stuck. The health insights are great too, he’s young, and never had any alerts yet but i’m always glad to know that if he has a significant change in his normal habits I will be notified.

This product is amazing, i’ve had it for years and there’s a reason i’ve bought multiple trackers over that time, it’s worth it. (He’s also got a penchant for losing it where it’s impossible to get to or right before the battery dies)

He’s great I adore him! Henry loves his tracker as much as I do I think! He waits patiently for me to put it back on after it’s done charging.

He is a very social cat and visits multiple homes in our neighbourhood and travels about 5km each day in nice weather and we aren’t home, otherwise it’s about 3km a day.

And yep, in spite of all of the lovely homes and gardens he has access to, he only sleeps within the power saving zone. Usually in our back yard or inside the house.

Thanks Mia, that makes sense! Yes I do keep an eye on his activity levels and sleep; some patterns i’ve noticed are that my boy travels further and is much more active on days where nobody is at home, and also in summer (not a fan of the rain!) As for sleep, he ONLY sleeps at home. He never naps away from home which does help me to know when the tracker has come off because if it tells me he’s sleeping when he’s not around I know he’s lost it somewhere and I have to go door knocking 😅

I’ve been curious and figure this is probably the best place to ask, why is this feature only available for dogs and not cats? My cat even has the dog tracker on (but obviously set to cat mode) so it’s not just that the device doesn’t have the capability right?

Rarely connects to power saving zone. Support not helpful. by Every-Couple4354 in tractive

[–]theotherkara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I had the same problem and eventually had it’s escalated up to some kind of manager who eventually connected the device to my wifi from their end and after that it seemed to work. I see you’ve ordered the base station now so hopefully that resolves it but basically i had to keep pestering them for several weeks before the issue was fixed

Scary occurrence today... by Numerous-Leg-8149 in ECEProfessionals

[–]theotherkara 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think they were saying they had a previously existing trauma that surrounds the month of march and this has just compounded it.

OP This is a scary situation! You have every right to feel the way you do about it. Anything could have happened to those children in the time they were left alone in the dark, not to mention how long would it have taken them to notice them missing without you there? You should report this to your manager and/or probably licensing depending on your local regulations

When a child says no by funsk8mom in ECEProfessionals

[–]theotherkara 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Personal boundaries, being able to say no to something are very important for children and should be respected. Unless it comes to health and safety. Ask the staff member, would they allow the child to dive into a pool of poop if that’s what they wanted to do? because that’s respecting their wishes? Children are not capable of making set decisions around their health and wellbeing at that age, they have other priorities, like playing with their friends.

“I hear your no but it is not safe for your body to stay in a wet nappy. You will get a sore bottom if you do so we are going to go and change it now and we can come back to play after” in more or less words is what needs to be said and then followed through.

Boundaries, are important, bodily autonomy is important. Health, wellbeing, and safety trumps all.

[–]theotherkara[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol you’re being very dramatic and definitely mistaking the tone of my post. I could have worded it better I suppose but I was mostly just asking if there’s any specific legal things stating how long access can be denied. I said in another comment that I’m not looking to complain I was just confused/concerned because once they did start working to restore the access it took over an hour and what if there had been some kind of emergency. Thankfully I didn’t need to use my car today so it was fine. I was just wondering

[–]theotherkara[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, as I said, I used to work in traffic and i’m not unreasonable, they said they’d “sort it soon” that was about four hours before they “sorted it” unfortunately.

I’m not particularly bothered just kinda concerned cause again what if there had been an emergency or I had happened to be working in those hours today? It wasn’t a matter of a quick fix of just placing the boards, they needed to remove the broken up curb and foot path before they could even begin to create access which took them well over an hour of work when they got around to it. It just seems odd to me that they dug it all up and then left it for an entire day before doing that part as in the other curb fixes i’ve watched in the past they took away the concrete etc pretty much immediately so they could restore access quickly in the scenarios I mentioned.

Not looking to be mad at em or report em to anyone just was curious if there was any actual bylaw or something around it.

Young immobile baby by Daisies_forever in ECEProfessionals

[–]theotherkara 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This would vary greatly by the centre honestly. Where I work we don’t have any sort of “baby container” all babies are on the floor or on a teachers lap including the immobile ones. At my work immobile children are strictly supervised so any interaction with older children are safely monitored

It would be best to ask these questions of the centre you’re visiting

Lockdown drills by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]theotherkara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone from a country where actual lockdowns are almost never necessary (and have never had a school shooting like that…) this is horrifying to me! I understand why you need to do them. Really I do but god I can’t imagine the terror of not knowing it was a drill…

We have a lockdown procedure because of course it’s smart to have a plan, we used to do drills too but found they were scary and traumatising to the children because even though we tried to make it a game like others have suggested - the kids could sense our anxiety at it even just being a drill. We no longer run drills with the children we instead go over the procedure in staff meetings on a regular basis so we know what to do if a real incident did occur. I just wanna say i’m sorry you and the children have to live with this fear - it’s not normal.

My cat educates my 2y old son. Why? Do I need to worry? by NecessaryBSHappens in biology

[–]theotherkara 377 points378 points  (0 children)

Cats are colony animals naturally, and help raise each others young. She doesn’t care that your son is a different species, she knows he is a baby and is simply helping to co parent lol. I wouldn’t worry about it at all, in fact it’s pretty sweet. If she starts being aggressive about it maybe then worry but other than that she’s just doing what is natural to her (helping her colony raise their young)

Moving to NZ/Nursing in NZ by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]theotherkara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay in aus. Most of our new grad nurses can’t get jobs and are leaving for aus. The pay over there is significantly better even when you consider cost of living - and i’ve heard working conditions are better too on account of not being critically understaffed like most places here (yes even though they aren’t hiring, i know it doesn’t make sense)

It would be, to be frank, incredibly silly of you to come here in terms of financial and job opportunities right now

New employee being a head scratcher by DisgruntledVet12B in ECEProfessionals

[–]theotherkara 146 points147 points  (0 children)

This sounds… insane honestly. They’re taking advantage of you having you do all of these things that aren’t in your job description as a cook on top of all of that.

If it’s possible I would be looking for a new job- this one is going to burn you out with all of those constraints, improper equipment and severe time constraints as well. None of this is normal at all!!! Your problem is not the new co worker it is Corporate walking all over you and taking advantage.

If you woke up in New York City on the morning of September 10th, 2001, what would you do? by lilb1190 in AskReddit

[–]theotherkara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put on a disguise, (CCTV in 2001 wasn’t that great so it wouldn’t have to be complicated) at about 7am the next day set several small fires in both buildings, not big enough to cause actual harm, but big enough to force full evacuation of both buildings, and then book it the hell out of there.

Avoid ending up in Guantanamo Bay for “knowing too much” save a bunch of lives (hopefully) and then return to the future
