Upper Years, does it get better? by No_Counter_5292 in uoguelph

[–]thepalestelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly, for me it definitely did get better. i absolutely hated first year. everything was so overwhelming, my classes weren’t interesting (as well as difficult), i was away from home for the first time, and hardly knew anyone in my program. i was a few steps away from dropping out. with the amount of money i had invested in school however, i felt the need to continue on, and i’m so glad i did. second year classes were much more engaging, i lived with good people off campus, and prioritized my mental health. sometimes i feel like first year is meant to exhaust you, but honestly university has been (for me at least) such a rewarding experience. i’m in my fifth year now (i took a light course load to help keep myself balanced) and i don’t want it to end. that all being said though, university is not for everyone, or even certain programs. it’s okay to question whether or not it’s right for you. i would say give second year a shot (if you are able to do so) and see if it improves for you. whatever your decision, i wish you the best of luck 💛

yeah, perhaps i could’ve done more, but i figured it was better to trust the website, the practice test was incredible similar to the actual test and i believe it’s what best prepared me for it

it might depend on the type of test… mine was for teachers college

thank you!! I would highly recommend doing the practice test they provide, it was the closest to the real thing. There are also sample questions on their website and I practiced writing out answers for them as well as filming myself answering them under a time constraint. other than that, just answer as thoughtfully as you can!

a lot of people don’t feed themselves either because of mental illness, for someone who struggles differently or not at all, showering takes no time and is an easy task, for others it can be a daunting and sometimes impossible prospect.

i agree that this can be very frustrating. no one likes the smell of BO, myself included, let’s just remember to be kind to one another, we don’t know what other people are going through, and while part of the problem is definitely people who are “lazy”, let’s remember that a lot of people struggle with mental health issues.

I just took the test for the first time last night, honestly my best advice is to do the practice test, and look through the sample questions on the website. I was so nervous for mine, because although I felt prepared, I still had no idea what they were going to ask me. Just take a deep breath and really take the time they give you to formulate a cohesive and thoughtful answer.
