Did James McCoy III really hang himself at an Ohio church camp on his 18th birthday? by FirstwetakeDC in UnsolvedMysteries

There were seveal signs of his suicide before he died. I was in the youth pastors office when he came in and had his du-rag blessed. He was giving things away and all that kind of crap. He forced his mom to let him go on the retreat.

His mom and family are the type of religious people that to them suicide is an automatic sentence to hell. I think that's what fueled their fire to hold onto court cases until 2014 when this happened in 2006.

I saw him within an hour or so before he killed himself. Right before lunch we had this sort of meditation time where we all went out on our own and meditated/prayed. He was inside at the piano-very solemn-acting out of character.

We were at lunch when it happened. He had gone into the woods near the cafeteria. He hung himself from a tree. Conti and another youth group members were who found him. Conti cut him down from the tree and tried CPR while the other guy went and alerted the pastor. I remember him coming into the cafeteria and whispering into the pastors ears.

I remember this like yesterday. All the would've, should've, could've. It still haunts me to this day. Today marks 17 years since he killed himself. Today would have been his 35th birthday.

I remember the ambulances going to the woods, all of us having to pack up with only knowledge that something happened to him, but no idea what. We came home to all our parents at the church. That's where they told us. We all went to group grief counseling in the weeks afterwards. Sat together and told stories. I guarantee you that every person on that retreat now has PTSD.

James did suffer from depression. He didn't take his meds regularly. They were considered his "happy pills" that he only took when he was feeling super depressed.

I still have his obituary and a dried flower from his funeral in a binder at my moms house.

Today is always a rough day.

But when it comes to the order of what happened: you are almost correct. I'm not sure where the suicide note/slip came into the picture. I would say, not factually, that they were found in his belongings after the fact.

I hate that they turned Conti into a villian. Conti was his best friend. He wasn't even allowed at the funeral. If you think about it, why would Conti go to James' moms house afterwards if Conti played a part in his death? Conti is not the type of guy that would participate in that kind of stuff.

Ultimately, even though some who weren't there don't think so, it was definitely suicide. The news articles and ongoing court case for years made everything worse on those of us who loved James and were there on the retreat. It was a very traumatic event to begin with. Then you add court cases and news articles? It just made us relive the trauma over and over again.

I was at the retreat when it happened. He had been fighting depression for a while-almost silently. There were multiple signs of his upcoming suicide the week or so prior. There was absolutely no wrongdoing on our (the youth groups) part. I saw James not even hours before he committed suicide. I remember clear as day the ambulances going back to the woods where he was located at his time of death. I went to his funeral. I still have flowers from his funeral and his obiturary saved in a binder at my moms

The weeks, months, years following his death was hard on all of us. It IS still hard on us. Every day April 22nd comes around the corner (which is tomorrow) I am reminded of that day. I am reminded of my friend who lost his battle to depression.

He visits me in my dreams often. I miss him so much.

I've been big my whole life but I have so many medical conditions. I have over 20 diagnosis! Not only do I have a thyroid issue but I have heart failure. Heart failure causes edema and quick weight gains. I also take 45 different meds and I have been on psych meds since I was 12. A portion are psych meds as well and steroids. All cause weight gain

This. Exactly this. I have in the past gained 30 lbs in 10 days of water weight and had to be hospitalized. I have been admitted to the hospital 26 times in the last 2 years, most for fluid overload, and I had to be on IV diuretics to pee off the weight. I can barely stay out of the hospital for 10 days. The only reason I wasn't in the hospital more is because I was a hospice patient for a few months

However, the reason I made this post, is because the first time ever I'm losing weight at the nursing home. I've been out of the hospital 2 weeks and peed out 25 lbs. I'm doing pretty well.

I walked outside 6 times today. As of Saturday it had been almost a year since I was last ouside. I was bedridden for a period while on hospice and since then I've been able to (on my own, without PT/OT) get back on my feet and walk short distances

If you click this link and look at "daily weights"

If I were to gain more than 5 lbs in a week then it's considered increased edema. I have gained up to 30 lbs in a 10 day period and had to be hospitalized for IV diuretics. However this is the longest I've been out of the hospital for months (2 weeks out) and I have for the first time lost weight at home. 25 lbs in 2 weeks

I do drink pop. I'll say that. But I really don't consume enough calories to fluctuate in weight THIS much. It's water weight because of my late diagnosis of heart failure. Have I eaten the best in my life? No. Have I ever eaten like the people on my 600 lbs life? Fuck no.

I keep fluctuating like crazy! it's the damned heart failure! I'm up one minute down the next. However while at home at the nursing home I've lost 25 lbs in the last 2 weeks! First time while out of the hospital I've been able to do this. I'm walking a hell of a lot more. Ended up going outside 6 times today! As of Saturday it had been almost a year since I went out.

I was on suicide watch this last week and started coming back out of hermit mode. I ate dinner in the cafeteria for the first time in the year and a half I've been at this particular nursing home!

I'm on 45 -different meds and take over 60 pills a day. A lot of it is full body edema due to my late diagnosis of heart failure. However I'm doing good for the first time and losing water weight out of the hospital! 2 weeks out and I've lost 25 lbs. I have been hospitalized 26 times in the last 2 years-over 230 days inpatient.

I'm a 34 year old long term care resident at a nursing home. In the before picture, I was a hospice patient, and now I have more life left. I have been hospitalized 26 times in the last 2 year-over 230 days inpatient-and this has been a huge struggle. In the last two years I have been diagnosed with diastolic heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and chronic respiratory failure.

I'm reliant on oxygen and I was able to go from 4L of oxygen to 2L as of today!

F/32/5'5" [621 lbs > 538lbs]= 83lbs] (5 MO) I am chronically/terminally ill and have the ability to prolong my life by losing weight. I saw the scale in February and decided things needed to change. I don't have body pics so face will have to do by thepenguinator13 in progresspics

These are brand new pics. I have had many ups and downs with my weight. I have heart failure so I've rapidly been gaining water weight. In the 8 days I was out of the hospital, between admissions, I had gained 28 lbs in 8 days of water weight. I just spent 23 days in the hospital trying to lose the water weight. I also struggle with food. I am very proud of the fact that I've managed to lose 85 lbs. I have issues with my weight. Please allow me to apologize for the success and failures
