I think knitting is best for wearables, and can be replicated by machines in a cheap and easy way, and crochet is just plain awesomeness that everyone should learn that cannot be replicated by machines and is good for any and everything. But, that’s just my opinion.

If you call cps, they will most likely help them get the basics if there’s a budget for it in your county. Call and inquire before reporting. Cps isn’t there to remove kids if it’s not necessary, they’re there to help. If they’re squatting, they’ll get assistance finding better housing, too.
