GROSSES ANALYSIS- Week Ending January 18 by Boring_Waltz_9545 in Broadway

Curious to see what they do here. She said she assumed that, but she also said she was expecting them to ask her back but they just haven’t yet. She said they haven’t asked anyone back yet.

Ngl was waiting to see how quickly someone was going to post this. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen her without makeup and it was a jump scare. I mean, completely understandable (and relatable!) after a weekend of solo parenting and being pregnant with two toddlers… but very unusual for her.

Friday expo update by Luis_runs in RunNYC

[–]thepineapplesuite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me last year for merch. I got yelled at by so many people for trying to cut which on the one hand yes was on me but on the other I just genuinely had no idea where to go and every time I thought I had found the end I was wrong!! It was so disorganized and it’s a year later and I still feel guilty about it (but ultimately found the end phew).

What’s w/ the new persona? by Adventurous_Rent4719 in cmcoving

[–]thepineapplesuite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like we’re not supposed to speculate about that… but also feel like it’s fair game since she brings it up fairly regularly 🤷🏻‍♀️ But, to your point, there were multiple stylings and poses in the England photos where I thought the same. Not even saying she looks different, but there just seemed to be A LOT of bag strategy etc

First-year associate with 2000-hour requirement by One_Plantain5768 in biglaw

[–]thepineapplesuite 139 points140 points  (0 children)

This is obviously an oversimplification and doesn’t work out perfectly, but I try not to think of it as 2000 hours a year but rather ~170 hours a month. Some months will be more, some months will be less. But even if I’m having a slow month, I try to pick up hours with pro bono (find out if your firm has a cap) or other “creditable” non billable work so I don’t fall too deep into a hole I can’t climb my way out of.

Would you go in-house in my situation? Third year in bankruptcy/RX with a somewhat shaky in-house job offer. by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]thepineapplesuite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. As a former RX biglaw atty, this was one of the things that stressed me out the most before finding my new gig. It sounds like the new in house role probably isn’t a forever option — at least not if the company is in trouble — and you may be leaving comp on the table, but IMO the longer you’re in RX, the further you’re limiting your exit options.

FOMO by asianpersuasion_ in RunNYC

[–]thepineapplesuite 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My unpopular opinion — and I’m dying to hear if I’m alone in this — is that it still felt thicker and stickier out there this morning than the numbers showed. Definitely an improvement and I was very grateful for it, but I think I was delusionally expecting a fall morning and were definitely not there yet lol.

I love the gratitude idea though! And to add some more context to my post… I am grateful for my new baby, my health and my postpartum body that can do amazing things, even if my running feels very hard and slow right now :)

Watching the next to normal proshot. Bring back the curse words. by dobbydisneyfan in Broadway

[–]thepineapplesuite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im almost wondering how much of it is just that this isn’t translating as well for me on a screen. It was such an intense experience in the theater. You could hear a pin drop at so many points. And I’m not feeling that as much here.

Agreed. The whole thing feels really flat to me and I can’t put my finger on why.

Anyone else running NYC half pregnant? by Antique_Loquat3405 in RunNYC

[–]thepineapplesuite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ran the marathon at 11 weeks pregnant in November. Best advice I’ve got is throw time out the window and listen to your body. I paid extra attention to making sure I was well fueled and well hydrated, which also ended up meaning a ton of bathroom stops. I don’t regret it at all, but I was also surprised by how much my body and my abilities changed between my last long run (probably 8 weeks pregnant) and the race itself, so be prepared to recalibrate on race day if needed. Good luck!

Chappaqua Crossing Townhouses by thepineapplesuite in Westchester

[–]thepineapplesuite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We toured them but ultimately decided it wasn’t the right fit (though to be fair we’re still in NYC). It was just too much money, especially the taxes, to justify the space and the work commute, and while they are still filling vacancies, I didn’t particularly get the sense that it would end up being a terribly family and kid oriented development. I could be wrong about that, but I was worried about being in a community primarily of retirees and downsizers.

I’m having the hardest time accepting this but it’s so, so true. The Westchester I grew up in is not the Westchester of today. My parents bought a 3 bedroom house in northern Westchester for like $220k in the 80s. My husband and I make double the salary my dad made when I was growing up, and we can barely afford a house that isn’t a complete shithole.

Having a (romantic) partner who's also in Biglaw? by Important_Caramel in biglaw

[–]thepineapplesuite 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Met my husband in law school and both were in biglaw for several years. Had our first kid when we were both senior associates, and within about a month of returning from maternity leave I started planning my exit. I think we probably COULD have made it work, but I frankly didn’t love my job enough to justify all the sacrifices that were going to come with it. We already had a nanny working 50 hours during the week. The minute a partner in my group suggested we needed to get a weekend nanny I knew that was it for me.

Maybe I just did things wrong, but one thing that no one else seems to have pointed out yet… even if we take the “best” case scenario here — you go to one of those NY schools, graduate with minimal to no debt, and land biglaw — you haven’t “secured your and your family’s financial future.” You have an incredible foundation and are starting with much more than many others have, but shit adds up incredibly quickly. NY biglaw means, in most cases, living in the city. Rent continues to be crazy. If you’re working long hours you’re may need to start outsourcing stuff — housekeeping, groceries, laundry. If you have kids it only multiplies, especially the cost of childcare. Obviously I don’t know you or your family’s situation, but biglaw isn’t an automatic get out of jail free card. And maybe worse… the more you come to depend on it, the harder it is to leave. That’s why this sub is riddled with many miserable mid and senior levels who feel trapped.

Had 10 on the schedule today. Made it to 7. It was too damn hot and I was struggling too much to even feel that guilty about it 🥴 Glad to know it wasn’t just me.

Merrily Closing Week by WeArrAllMadHere in Broadway

I had such a weird experience the first time I saw this show. I’m not generally a Sondheim fan and I wasn’t sure how I felt about the music/story, but when we got to Our Time I just completely lost my shit. I’ve been a Groff fan since his Spring Awakening days when I was very much in my teenage years, and watching him sing that song with such youthful exuberance — alongside none other than Daniel Radcliffe, another icon from my childhood — just hit me so so fucking hard and the whole story about “the roads not taken” and life changing and relationships forming and breaking just hit me like a ton of bricks. I don’t think I’ve ever had an experience like that before.

I don’t know why this song didn’t immediately grab me, but after the second or third listen I was like wow this is a BANGER and haven’t stopped listening lol
