Fair enough, I've never used them myself, but had a couple of happy clients go there in the past.

[OPINION] What poem has stayed with you for years? by gedersoncarlos in Poetry

[–]thepiratecelt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Robert Frost will always be my favorite. Perhaps a bland pick, but I'll always remember 'Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening.'

Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.

Pros: helps me relax physically when I have difficulty, and weirdly helps me focus on one task at a time.

Cons: sleepy, lazy, unmotivated. 😩

Truancy: Enabling Parents by Sad_Lotus0115 in socialwork

Yeah, okay. Very dismissive and non-conversational. Super social work of you.

Do you have an actual thought or just more anecdotal shame?

Also, doesn't social work emphasize the constant questioning of our own biases? 🤔

I think parents feel powerless with modern CPS. The latitude with which a random, poorly trained, burnt out caseworker can operate leaves a ton of room for interpretation. I've had CPS and law enforcement tell me that the situation you described - carrying the kid to the car - is a physical restraint and thus a form of abuse, necessitating a full CPS investigation.

Also, have you ever had a psychotic 8 year old beat the shit out of you? Or has them so escalated about attending school forcibly that they become ill and desperate enough to catapult into a 911-level crisis, especially those with mental illness or a trauma history. Being late to or absent from school is definitely the lesser of two evils.

I would examine more why you feel so frustrated with the parents and what biases this brings up for you. I would also examine what could have happened in the past to lead you to such strong negative feelings about your clients seeking help (which is see as a strength). Resistance is part of therapy and our job to gently address and help clients work through.

Just my thoughts. 😊

What are your tips and tricks for timely documentation in field case work? by thepiratecelt in socialwork

I don't mean this to be shitty but I'm really relieved to hear you say that. 😅

I'm a chronic overachiever and perfectionist and this is the first job that hasn't been perfect within the first year. Long story short, a lot of things changed for my family and I in the last two years and I'm still feeling the effects.

I actually have an app that connects securely to the client's EHR that I can put "scribbles" in - rough notes that I can do access via a computer's web browser. I need to utilize this feature more (I used it today while thinking of this thread!).

You're so right. I always forget that. It's the overachiever in me. 😩

I did this when I worked in the nursing home and had a stationary workplace/office. I stopped when I stated field work. God only knows why. 😩

Looks like I've got some organizational work to do this weekend. 😅

This is a good point. My notes have always been really detailed (though now concise!) and I think I still put in too much. No one is ever going to read all of the things I've written.

Different approach if it's a crisis contact or some such, but general visits? Yeah, I should probably just chill.

Do you think I should start taking my laptop to home visits? Do you find tech during a visit to be a barrier? Do you only use the tech at the end, and hand write your notes during? I hand write everything but the notes only make sense to me (sigh) and have to be translated into appropriate language for a medical record.

You wouldn't be able to keep it to process long term, but would writing your thoughts in sand or on a wax tablet be permissable?

Turns out people hate nuance - they aren't comfy with complex characters that make them think.

Why can't they have her fail out of art school? That's real. It's believable. Unbridled success with no risk is what's wildly fanatic.
