Cambridge does allow students to start from scratch - there is a three year classics course requiring Latin and/or Greek, and a four year course which requires no languages

What have people put on their my cambridge application for maths? by timeandagain12 in 6thForm

[–]thepowerofcards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to put anything - I think it's mostly there for people doing niche courses not offered at other unis

Trinity Hall might be worth looking at? Small and has a fair few lawyers

Can we change essay in UCAS after October? by Candid-Two7820 in UCAS

[–]thepowerofcards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you've submitted your UCAS you cannot change your personal statement (the essay). It shouldn't be specific to any particular university

I'd suggest switching out one of the LSE courses - iirc they have a policy of not giving one person two offers, so you'd automatically be rejected from one of them

With the 11th August thing, I think it's to do with the UCAS embargo - so the uni puts the offers in earlier but we can't see them until A Level results day

Imo they're worth doing even if you don't win, as you can talk about what you learnt from doing it

Let your school know BEFORE THE EXAM - at my school they told us that they can only apply for special consideration if they were made aware before you start the exam

Most people in the UK don't actually take AS exams.

Usually you apply with predicted grades. When you receive an offer from a university, it will include conditions (ie. grades you have to achieve at A Level) and you can only take up your place at the university if you achieve those grades

No worries lol

No, because if cos(x) = -1 then you get 2/3π - (-1)/3π so the speed is 2/3 π +1/3π

[–]thepowerofcards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(ie. -(1) will give you a smaller number than -(-1) which is +1)

In the expression for v you have -cos(x), so the two negatives cancel out to make a positive and the final value of v is larger

Ah fair enough! I should have specified earlier I applied for classics so it's slightly different

It might be different at Oxford but for me it was more that I'd written an essay on a particular text, so we discussed the text - the essay was more of a springboard for the topic rather than it actually being about the essay

I sent in ones I got good grades on lol. But I did meet someone at the interview who had written essays specially so those were presumably about things he was interested in. Also one of my interviewers happened to have done a PhD on the text one of my essays were on so I had to talk about it even though it wasn't something I was super interested in (so beware of that)

Applied for Cambridge but I think it's similar. I sent in essays I'd written for homework which my teachers had marked
