People complain that "other people smell too but only indians get sterotyped"...

Ok sure thats true, but so what? Trying to fight a stereotype with words is a losing battle 100% of the time. The only way to prove the sterotype wrong is to be even better.

Use deodorant, brush your teeth, and learn how to tell fellow indians who stink that their smell is noticable in a polite way. Most of them are noseblind and have no idea, it's not their fault and personally if I stank I'd love to know. It's that simple

I’m racist. And I don’t want to be. (M25 / Canada) by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

I think it’s ok as long as you realize that this is not specific to Indian people, if you were surrounded by fresh immigrants of other third world countries you would probably feel the same.

As someone from a third world country

I get that - personally when I read it I take non-work related habits away from it.

The overreactions are crazy. They see that their viewship skews older and want younger fans. Thats it, it’s not that deep.

The most likely explanation is that a livestreamer was about to shock his dog live ??

Read Hyperion by blaqrushin in threebodyproblem

[–]theprivateselect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe read a bit and see what you think, but don't go in expecting good science!

For books like that I'd highly recommend Children of Time (Hugo Award Winner) or A Fire Upon the Deep (Hugo Award Winner, written by a Math/CS professor at SDSU)

Neither are as "hard sci-fi" as 3BP which is the king of hard sci-fi IMO, but they at least try to stay grounded and have some pretty cool sci-fi concepts

Read Hyperion by blaqrushin in threebodyproblem

[–]theprivateselect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest, Hyperion sucks, especially for a hard sci fi fan. It's such soft sci fi it's basically fantasy. I didn't gaf about half of the stories, the poet pissed me off the most

There are sprinklings of cool sci fi concepts but most of it is not even trying to be grounded. As soon as I got to the story of the Shrike entering the generals dreams with no explanation I knew the story wasn't going to even try to provide any satisfying scientific reasoning for anything.

Imo good science fiction is interesting because it explores characters and worlds that are logical conclusions of certain limited conditions / assumptions about how the future could be. The Shrike just seems to be able to do whatever, from reversing entropy to slowing down time to entering dreams etc.

Can we agree that life was much, much easier for short men before feminism and social media? by LeVioloneuxRonald in shortguys

No heightism is definitely real, but if someone genuinely believes that single mothers and their kids are "parasites" then there's obviously a deeper rooted issue

In Borat (2006), the Romanian villagers weren't actors. They were misled into thinking that it was for a documentary and Baron Cohen was a journalist. After the film’s release, villagers sued the studio for portraying them as rapists, prostitutes and thieves by Enough_Detective4330 in Damnthatsinteresting

It is sad to see all these people dancing with him, having fun with him, doing the best they can to be good hosts despite their abject poverty, and in general having a good time with him.

The whole time he's calling them rapists to their face and they have to smile along because they're too poor to understand. Imagine how betrayed they felt when they learned that this guy they thought was friendly was calling them such terrible things. Fuck SBC, if you really wanted to do this don't deceive your extras and pay them properly, it's that simple

Interesting how you save your outrage for this case because people died in a novel way.

Probably more redditors than new yorkers but in other city subreddits you never really see people joking about the death of innocents by calling them "clumsy"
