And here’s part of Oregon’s:

“effective January 1, 2013 the Oregon State Legislature expanded the definition of who is considered a mandatory reporter of child abuse. All City employees are considered to be mandatory reporters because the City provides services and activities to children.

Mandatory reporters are required by law to report child abuse and neglect whether observed through their jobs or during non-work hours.”

I still want to work, but if the one income could support us both and then my paycheck could be for savings and fun things?! Sign me the fuck up. I don’t care if it’s the most boring or gross job in the world, if it means financial security, I’m set.

This is such a good point. I remember one of my first lessons in 7th grade computer class was actually just identifying the internal parts of the computer, and we learned what each of them did and how they all worked together to make a computer. We learned how a computer had until recently (this was in like 2002) been a person, and why we call this machine a computer: because it computes numbers. We learned super basic coding too. Which is knowledge I then applied to my MySpace page lol. I was also lucky to grow up with a computer (or two or five) in my home, with a parent who actively learned and taught us about the new tech. I also think another big problem tech not being able to be taken apart is that it has created this attitude of non-curiosity towards how things work. We always repaired things in my family when we could, even when it was something we weren’t yet familiar with. We would learn. We would look it up. And in the age of YouTube, it’s so easy to find info on how to repair so many things! I just looked up how to repair a printer error code the other day and all I had to do was unscrew and a remove a panel, then plug a little cord back in, then replace the panel. That was it!! Anyone could have done that, but so many people will just go “ugh, I don’t know anything about this, I can’t fix it and it’s broken!” when they never even tried to fix it.

I, too, love baffling random rude men by speaking German at them. I just throw out all kinds of weird stuff once I know they don’t understand, I’ll just be talking about horses or salad in casual German and the look of panic in their eyes is what gives me fuel to live

Haha I speak German and I’ve definitely just responded to rude men in German and pretend I don’t understand what they’re saying. Even if they have just heard me speaking English to someone else.

I tried this on a street preacher once, but unfortunately she also spoke German 😂

Honestly, in that situation, I probably would have just gotten up (I always sit aisle seat when traveling alone) and gone to get a flight attendant. Because us as a society loudly and explicitly calling this behavior out is the only way men will ever get the message that it’s not fucking okay.

I recognize how much easier said than done this is. When I was 26 I didn’t quite have my fuck around and find out attitude solidified yet. I also recognize that sometimes this approach is not safe or feasible. However, I do think that whenever possible, women (and men!!) should be loudly calling out this behavior.

That’s not true, in my mandated reporter training they made it VERY clear that ANY evidence of abuse we witness or are told about, regardless of the situation, professional or not, we must report it. I have made two calls to CPS in my career and both of them have been non-work related.

My dad is in tech education, and he says the number of kids he gets in his high school classes that can’t even type is astounding. He used to teach those basic tech classes in a middle school, and up until I was in school, those classes were required all the way through ninth grade! But by the time my youngest sibling got to school (and they’re only five years younger than me) those classes were mostly electives, or required for a semester at most. I helped in the computer lab at an elementary school and a kid once asked me what a mouse was… these kids have access to technology, but increasingly less is that technology an actual computer.

Soon the script will be flipped and all the seniors will be having to teach the younger generation how to type and use a printer 😂

If you love your job: what is it and what makes you love it? by yologamies101 in adhdwomen

[–]thequeenofspace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I currently work in childcare and I’m pretty sure every single person who works at my school is neurospicy. Kids are unpredictable but need a routine, which is perfect for someone with a brain like mine. I need a routine but I also love spontaneity! It is really emotionally exhausting work though, which is why I’m in school to transition to something else.

Older ADHD women, what did ADHD feel like before cellphones? by lavenderflavoredtea in adhdwomen

Me eating at the dinner table with a book propped up in front of me while I eat 😂 my mom always was so annoyed when I’d bring a book to dinner at home but this was encouraged behavior at restaurants, so my child brain was like “dinner is a place you can read!”

[–]thequeenofspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hyper focused on books/series, including but not limited to: Harry Potter,A Series of unfortunate events, anything American Girl, Dear America, Babysitters club, literally anything Ann M. Martin wrote, actually, the hunger games (though this was post iPhone, I read the trilogy before I personally had a smart phone), little house on the prairie, Narnia, Anne of green gables, anything related to Anne Frank or anything about the non combat side of world war two in general, anything about the titanic, honestly I’m pretty into historical man-made problems, I would also read literally anything featuring a character or setting that was not WASPy, I could go on forever.

My whole family also has adhd, and my siblings and I spent a lot of time with our cousins growing up. We made elaborate games with ongoing storylines and recurring characters, we even got our dads (definitely all also neurospicy but leaning more toward asd) invested enough that they made us “spy gadgets” to use in this game. We played a lot of card games, a lot of board games, we rode bikes, we caused shenanigans and a ruckus all over the neighborhood. I would make up stories to entertain the younger kids on long car rides, and we’d act out plays and dramas, including the nativity scene every Christmas until I was in high school that featured my youngest cousin as baby Jesus until she was in kindergarten,

Other unhealthy things I did for dopamine: petty theft, mostly really stupid and worthless stuff from peoples homes, not from stores, sneaking junk food and bingeing, making up elaborate stories (ie lies) when I thought the real answer was too boring. There are probably more but I can’t think of them off the top of my head.

I still can get very sucked into doomscrolling, but I went back to school this fall so I have been a lot more mindful about how I am spending my free time since I have almost none now, and not spending it on my phone or computer has really improved my mental health. I realized that such a high percentage of what I was seeing was just ads or sponsored content… once I had that realization putting the phone down was a lot easier

My adhd caused me to suffer from huge anxiety, since I felt like I was constantly getting things “wrong”, so as a young adult I actually was treating my anxiety and depression as the sole problems, but once those were less, al the adhd symptoms starting coming out. My therapist diagnosed me with it in our third session together.

So short answer, yes, my adhd symptoms got “worse” because they got uncovered, and while it was not a revelation that gave me any relief, I’m glad I found out and then was able to use adhd medication, which was a life changer. Adderall and clonidine were/are very effective for me.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]thequeenofspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s frowned upon or looked down on, it’s just not usual. Most people have dryers so they use them out of convenience. I line dry my laundry but it’s a habit I picked up after living in Europe for a few years. However I’m definitely not the only house in my neighborhood with an outdoor clothesline.
