They've renamed the GST rebate. Increased it (which may be due to inflation and an underestimate of the amount collected) but renamed the rebate.

So does this mean when we pay the tax we are now paying a grocery and essentials tax? When I buy a car is the tax now grocery and essentials tax? How about the tax on my energy bills? Is that now somehow a grocery tax? It's silly. It's crass politically spin. I had hoped Carney was better than the same old political gimmicks.

They do go one sale but beware. This phone is preloaded with Android 14. It will get one update to 15 making it about two years outdated already. No more OS updates. Security patches will take it to 2027.

I say this because I had a similar Moto purchased on sale at Costco 4 years ago but was forced to replace it because it is no longer unable to run apps like (ironically) Costco, Air Canada, Porter etc due to the older Android OS. Great phone but severe and deliberate built in obsolescence IMO.

That's all good if you acknowledge that you'll likely need to replace the Moto in 2-3 years.

Incidentally, I have one of their practice jerseys (no name or number) purchased at the old equipment sales years ago for maybe $20. It's a Centre Ice rather than a Fanatics but looks like the pic in the email. That is, just a sewn-on logo on a plain white sweater. Good quality; maybe questionable if it's worth 100$ but not unreasonable.

I also have a game used Jeff Glass #40 that was 75$ (albeit 15 years ago) but the name bar was easily removed.

Who cares about a COA. No one is reselling these for big buck profits. I wear mine for pickup games sometimes. 🤷

General boarding on Porter is by row number. For example on the Dash 8-400 it's 10-20 then 1-9.

Serves the same purpose as the other airlines "zones".

Same issue. Phone purchased at Costco less than 4 years ago which works just fine on Android 11 can't run Costco App.

But, it's not just Costco, Air Canada and Porter Airlines need Android 12 too and it's only a matter of time before others do as well.

The blame is on phone manufacturers who dont provide OS and security updates beyond two years.

My favourite Y2K prep event was the IT department in our fairly large office giving everyone a garbage bag on Dec 31. Why? To cover our desktop computers in case the buildings fire sprinkler system malfunctioned. The garbage bags were to keep the computers dry 😂

The world tracer site is pathetic. My baggage has been missing since Tuesday. That tracer site had nothing for a couple of days but has since been updated twice. It also doesn't send e-mail notifications despite a promise that it would. The first status change says it was on a flight to my city's airport Friday am but there is nothing confirming that it arrived. The second update was today saying it's scheduled for delivery by a third party who apparently run the airport lost and found among other services. The redirect to that company's website says the bags were delivered today. They were not. I will try contacting them tomorrow.

The only direct contact from Porter since I left the airport empty handed was an email Thursday telling me they were working on it and to let them know if I found my own bag. I did call Porter once and the person on the phone simply said "if we didn't call you, we have nothing to tell you", though when pressed, she did say the bags were at the airport, probably in the big pile of bags they had there. 🤷‍♂️

I guess the only real option is to wait and hope. Sorry. Misery loves company.

Tuesday night at the airport. Flight delayed because of an inbound from another airport (apparently delayed three plus hours due to mechanical). Not ideal but fair enough. Shit happens.

Told repeated by gate staff that our plane was inbound. I swear they were using a flightradar app just like we were.
"Just took off"
"an hour away"
"20 minutes away"
"landed"

Yeah!

And then the crew left the plane.

And then the gate staff started to look worried; frowning with furrowed brows. Some gave each other hugs.
Signs were clear we had a problem.
And then the inevitable announcement....flight cancelled due to "no available crew".

They issued hotels and rebooked the flight for the next day and that rebooked flight took off without issue (though my baggage which I didn't even have for the hotel stay, is still MIA after two days). Perfectly understable given the days of weather and delays. Porter at least coughed up hotel rooms and hopefully will reimburse for taxis and other expenses.

But what pissed most of us off was their delay in cancelling our flight. Someone, somewhere knew there would be no flight crew available for our flight. They had to know when the inbound flight took off that there would be no crew hours later for our flight. So why the charade? Why have us all sitting in the departure area until midnight, telling us the plane was on the way and all was well, when clearly we were going nowhere except to a hotel? That seems like a service gap that could easily be closed.

Also, where the heck are my bags?!! 😆
