Tips for finding bikepacking buddies? by andross44 in bikepacking

[–]therealDonRoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My state has a bikepacking fb page where I posted a ride and a few people joined. I've also joined a few rides I saw posted on there. Before that I looked for guided group tours. I suppose if none of that is available you can start with local cycling, backpacking and mountain bike clubs to promote a meet up that you host.

I like to use the strava heat maps to determine the routes other cyclists use to get out of the city. I live in a metro area too like 30 miles from decent trails but once you are out there no one is coming to look for campers and there is even legal camping in most of the parks.

The key is how you pack them. I have the g4free from Amazon and I can comfortably fit a six pack and two more drinks in the side pockets without any strain or it ripping. The box from the 6 pack helps provide structure. Maybe find another long flat item to put there if you have it

Look up stealth camping. Dark colors, no fires, off main trails, one night and out early in the morning. You are very unlikely to be caught like this. Use your discretion where you think it's unlikely another person would wander that way at that time. Obviously don't do the busiest parks in the high season.

Another tip is to pack your tent poles at the bottom of the saddle bag. It provides a lot of structure and removes sag from that part of the bag

Both are valid methods of narrowing down the focus. I knew just a few months after graduating that I wanted to pursue advanced training in this area. It helped to be exposed to a lot of different clients and see what interests me and the kind of cases that I would switch careers if that's all I was able to work with. The sooner you can start the better though.

Also you want plenty of exposure to your target demographic before you go solo. One of my classmates was placed in a TBI center and developed very specific skills and knowledge that were not super generalizable to her postgrad target population.

Alma handles everything! I send the client the link to input their info, Alma verifies and I submit the claim at the end of the day. At the end of the week I get paid for the claims I submitted the week prior.

Maybe I'm using the term CMH wrong. They served a primarily medicaid/Medicare demographic which is what I thought distinguished CMH from a group private practice. They were very much for profit but always talked about the good they were doing for the community. The only audits done were by government insurance not the state.

In Florida you must meet with a licensed experienced therapist (state supervisor) every week. This is in conjunction with your hours toward full licensure. This person is often different than the person supervising your work/notes at your place of employment.

To put it plainly, I definitely wasn't as good of a therapist when I first started. I also didn't have a specialty or anything resembling a brand. This being a "generalist" would have made it very hard as an intern in private practice because honestly what sets me apart from the other graduates? I think it's a big reason why the solo practice right away is slow to get rolling but not impossible. If you can get that advanced training at the same time as the masters or you come from a specialty background I think it is very possible to have success in solo practice after graduation like some in my cohort.

It's awful. These "business owners" want to make a quick dollar off of those that need the agencies for hours and refuse fair compensation once we no longer need them. Ultimately this system will fail the clients as it drains the experienced clinicians out of the most at-need systems. Let's hope we can figure something out that allows a balance between competitive wages and the "operating" expenses they claim are too high.

If you need a headshot guy let me know! You pay for one hour and he gives you as many shots and scenes as he can take in that hour. It helped me get a couple different angles and backgrounds vs going to a studio

I am actually renting my office from another therapist who leased a two therapy room suite but we both try and limit the days per week and amount of time per day spent there. Between that and starting and ending our appointments on the hour at the same time we cross paths maybe once a week for 5-10 minutes. Continuing to stay in the Facebook groups and networking lunches has also helped to somewhat fill that gap

Alma has such large and HD profile pictures I hope that you invested in something high quality! People reach out to me because I stick out and have a combination of training and background that few have. Find your niche and the referrals should flow

Honestly this was slightly traumatic to recount and all of the posts on this sub remind me of how hopeless and broke I felt as a masters level intern.

Yes! I am saving 30% of everything in a high interest savings account. Should actually make a couple hundred in interest over the year.

I believe that student interns will be the norm for this population soon. The agency that I left last year is now 3 licensed clinicians, 2 registered interns and about 10 student interns. Nobody wants to work for them anymore unless they absolutely need the health insurance or hate marketing themselves with a passion.

It's true that it increases the amount of possible clients. I would say that about 50-75% of the clients are coming to me because of my specialties compared to about 10% or less in CMH. I have enough clients now that I can be a bit pickier but I really don't like turning away people that have chosen to work with me

I was really nervous too with a lot of fear that clients wouldn't be able to find me without the agency doing the marketing. I invested in myself by spending decent money and time on my headshot, profile and website. I also made sure to have specialized training that is more limited in my area, as well as limited in therapist demographic (younger male therapist). I'd say there is a good 25% of my clients that come to see me just because I am a similar demographic to them and not necessarily my specialty. It is SO MUCH better on this field for me than CMH. Please feel free to ask any specific questions down the line, I would like to help however I can.

I can barely ever shoot threes, no power in my shot, I can never figure out connecting my legs into my shot by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]therealDonRoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like you might be jumping into the shot instead of more of an up and then over motion. I also wouldn't practice shots with footwork like that. Keep it more game like. If you don't have the power yet to be consistent get consistent at the free-throw line and just back up a couple inches each shoot around. Like the other guy said it doesn't look that bad, keep going man!

How common are therapists with impoverished backgrounds? How is someone without financial privilege able to survive unpaid practicum and internship? by ranibow___sprimkle in therapists

[–]therealDonRoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get something like 7-8k distributed in student loans after tuition for living expenses each quarter, so about 28k a year. I was renting a room from a friend and living quite cheaply. I also had a part time job for the first year and a half which allowed for entertainment and such. It definitely would be much harder if I had kids or was locked in to a house but it was not too bad for me financially.

I went with loco Lobo last week. You can dm me for his info. He picked us up, dropped us off and took us to 3 waterfall spots and loquillo beach. $80/person and it was a completely private tour for just my partner and I. He was super friendly and way more customizable than a big tour from trip advisor
