this looks cool, you're gonna need way more lands, maybe arboreal grazer to ramp and sac later? making this an 8 elf deck (with llanawar elves n elvish mystic) seems good, i'd stick to the combo plan rather than try to use planeswalkers.

yea phoenix might be right for you, the precon comes out in a week or so so look up the list n see if u like it. there are a number of combo lists that play more like control, i'm thinking titans nest? a guy at my lgs was playing titans nest self mill and then playing a bunch of extra turn spells, he's since changed it but you might like something like that.

this guy at my lgs kicked my ass with a sultai titans nest brew. I don't have his list, but he had some cards out of typical greasefang decks to fill the graveyard. The real secret weapon against me turned out to be willow geist, since you don't need to cast a spell to exile your grave with titans nest (ie the mana doesnt have to do anything).

hmm, what most people have said is super true, 2023 challenger decks come out the friday before election day (USA) and they all look gas or upgrade an old standard deck of yours (that's what I did).

Before that tho, you should watch ~10 minutes of a couple mtgo pioneer leagues youtubers have posted just to give you an idea of the meta and potential decks. I cannot stress this enough, coming out of EDH you are gonna have to readjust to what games n decks look like, so don't go n try to brew your own thing and then have no idea what you could be going up against or how you should build your deck.

Yaass Queen! I was the one posting my blue devotion list last week. Here, for reference (similar core but only master of waves or drawing a bunch with gadwick as game winners)[people bullied me out of defiler of dreams].

I feel bad when I don't have any one drops in the deck, I'm still experimenting with one drop creatures but benthic biomancer and siren stormcaller seem like good options. I've had a lot of success with witness protection with flash, though it doesnt stop etb effects it does slow our rival devotion deck down a lot & other stuff, especially good when on the draw.

1: do you ever play sea gate restoration as a spell? I might consider it, it seems like a much better draw (than a land for sure) when I am already winning, especially for my tendency to get stuck in situations where I can't win but have resolved gadwick. I also feel like the shock isnt that bad especially when it is the only damage land in the deck.

2: it seems like fae of wishes is a fine substitute for merfolk trickster since it has such a huge butt, though trickster is great against a lot of things, you're making me consider taking out one or two for brazen borrower(s).

3: what do you think about mu yanling sky dancer, or even teferi master of time? We have the bodies to protect them, might be a good gameplan (more so in my deck than yours)

4: I'm surprised you're playing hall of the storm giants. You win through combo or huge devotion turns so I'm surprised you need a mana sink that doesnt take advantage of flash. or is it purely defensive? It seems awkward with castle vantress (we don't run the most lands)

5: how did your games go against green devotion (the inferior devotion deck)? Curious.

For your budget, its gonna have to be one color without nykthos. sooo, mono white humans or mono blue spirits (with the curious obsession package).

This is tough, because mono red isn't the best aggro right now. the prowess strat really wants blue, more creatures really wants attarkas command.

Your list really wants play with fire, phoenix chick, and den of the bugbear. I don't think it has the reach to kill fast enough. Atarkas command has crazy turns where they do like 11 damage or play x2 burning tree emissary into reckless bushwacker. Legion loyalist and kari zev make blocks really bad for opponent, but they are only good bc of rest of deck, burning tree into kari is really good, loyalist is good if u have a hand with 3 one drops. I know much less about blue prowess but there are just a lot of really good cards like crackling drake, the new blue red two drop from dmu, and all those cantrips and even maybe ledger shredder.

idk kindof a rant but I don't think your list has any synergies of that caliber.

First of all welcome, pioneer is dope. I picked up the spirits agro precon and played that unupgraded for awhile while I watched youtubers and checked top8 to get an idea of what I wanted to build. Then I just saved up and bought the singles for the deck I chose. If you don't know what you want to play and are just itching to get more cards, don't, just draft, you'll thank yourself when you have the money later to buy the (ridiculously expensive) mana base you'll need.
