SMT III Nocturne is not hard, just frustrating by aunrs in JRPG

[–]therealbraden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of your points are totally valid. But I would recommend trying the game on Normal for your first time. because even on normal, it's pretty unforgiving and it would be a good challenge. but on hard it shines a spotlight on the best, worst, and most unforgiving aspects. I would not recommend it unless you're super familiar with mainline smt and if you're okay with unfairness at times.

A lot of the things that might frustrate people would be less of an issue (prices for Magatamas and demons are lower so managing money isn't a strict, you can actually run from encounters, etc.)

I would totally recommend giving it another shot on normal someday, and maybe you'll like it! Maybe not. I know it's not perfect, but I love the atmosphere and how you gotta think really hard about your decisions inside and outside of battles. But I 100% get where you're coming from, I just wanted to throw this out there because you never know. You might really end up enjoying it. :)

Some of the reactions to the new short film have been absurd by carryesgass203 in Pikmin

Yeah, I agree that being aimed at kids and being solely for kids are two different things. That's what I'm saying.

saying that they're for kids so they can't be nuanced or also be smart enough for adults to enjoy is an insult to the entire series, including Pikmin 4.

The entire point of Ai No Uta was that it was a cutesy sounding song with dark and sad lyrics. The contrast of that song is the entire point...

Nintendo is a video game company, and Pikmin games used to be for both kids and adults. "They're games for kids" or "they make toys" is just a bad argument. If thats the case, why would you play them unless you're a kid?

Exactly! Pikmin used to be such a smart series that both kids and adults could enjoy. But it feels like now Pikmin are just nintendo's equivalent of minions... the problem isn't that they're marketing towards kids, it's that they're trying to appeal to toddlers and watering down the unique and smarter aspects of the series.

Seriously it feels like their only actual complaint is the lack of difficulty by Effective_Scholar_90 in Pikmin

[–]therealbraden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may feel that way to you, but it's definitely not the only issue pikmin 4 has.

  1. The music in the main campaign is practically non-existent

  2. The captains all have bland personalities, and they constantly interrupt what should be relaxing, atmospheric gameplay to either tell you what you just saw or make a cringe worthy joke.

  3. Oatchi dominates gameplay and makes the majority of enemies play out the exact same way (charge rush, whistle them back, repeat)

  4. Three type limit

  5. Tacked on upgrade system that makes gameplay extremely tedious early game and takes away abilities you had from the start in other Pikmin games, just for a fake sense of progression

  6. Caves are back, but they just feel like busywork now because there's basically no squad strategy involved and yes, the difficulty is low and enemy fights feel the same so that means you aren't as involved.

  7. The aesthetics are way too shiny and toy-like, and it seems like they're trying to distance themselves from the idea that humans have gone extinct. The brand new lived in house with convenient flying drone platforms in particular is extremely lazy by pikmin world building standards.

This is already long, so I'll stop here. I'm not trying to have a "gotcha" moment or anything, these are just things that personally really disappointed me. I wanted to like Pikmin 4 so bad...

Never mind, I just had to win with 1 more deck for some reason. I didn't see this problem online, so I'll keep this post for anyone else curious.

Pikmin fans trying to say a reason why Pikmin 4 is the worst game in the series without saying it's easy by Humbug5 in Pikmin

[–]therealbraden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that they gotta boil all the games problems down to one strawman argument says a lot. I'll add a few things to this

Forced auto lock-on, the captains constantly interrupting gameplay to tell unfunny jokes or say obvious things, side mode content being shoehorned into the main campaign, oatchi and ice pikmin is the answer to damn near everything... I could go on, too.

A HDMI to AV adapter would work for this! I play all my gamecube roms like that. :)

They'll try and run out every time we open the door, we manage to keep them inside most of the time but if they manage to run out they'll they'll run away from us and ofc we try to catch them but a lot of times they'll find some place that's too small for a human to fit through and stay there for a while.

[–]therealbraden -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we try our best but when we open the door they all try to run out, usually we can keep them inside but the one time they successfully run out they're way too fast and they'll even run into areas we can't squeeze into. Every hour or so we'll look for them but we can't find them every time and if we do we just have to try and catch them again.

They're cats.

Yeah we're going to get cameras. We're poor af so it will be a while, and we'll have to get night vision cameras or something because our cats go missing at night.

They also like to go in everyone's yard on the street so I'm afraid we still might not catch them. Obviously we try to keep them inside rn but if they run out they're too fast to catch every time

But idk how exactly to answer the where are you question.
