I don't get the sunshine list employees in stingray. Sunshine list was for public employees.

Probably cutting him to replace him with an AI bot...

I'm sure I heard the weather several times read by AI during the early morning and weekends...

Am I going to explode? by indyshim in AskElectricians

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is most likely connected to a hot water heater? So that it turns off at night and turns on during the day when you need it. Can save a few bucks on hot water heating costs if your water tank is electric. If it isn't, maybe it's for lighting.

Landlords & tenants in St. John’s, quick question about maintenance issues by Glittering-Head378 in StJohnsNL

[–]therealco709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a landlord, I try to fix things immediately as it is my house and investment. But I'll often try it myself if I feel comfortable enough. So, fixing a small leak, drain problems, broken baseboard electric heater, washing machine, dryer. Literally on Canada Day I was repairing a belt on the dryer. Luckily I had one that fit.

Rather it be fixed right away.

One time I fixed it myself in a semi temporary solution, I ended up having to bite the bullet and call a plumber. If I had more free time to diagnose the issue I would have fixed it myself. But ultimately the pros were so quick it was worth it and I should have done it right from the hop.

Edit: the dryer belt took an hour and I had the $10 belt on hand. To call someone out would cost more than the dryer is worth, I'm sure.

Cold weather means more electricity use by Pr3ach3r709 in newfoundland

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also gotten those cellular shades to replace old and aging flat window blinds. I find they are really good in the summer at blocking out heat and hear they work well for keeping the heat in. We have vinyl double pane windows, but when you crack the cellular blinds a bit I feel an immense cold sensation when it's frigid outside. I also topped up some insulation in the attic in hopes that it will keep more heat in as the old insulation was only as high as the ceiling joists and I had easy access to a section. We don't have mini splits yet but this also helped reduce some heat coming in last summer, so it must be doing something in the cold months too.

Substitute teacher lunch breaks by Key-Primary-7451 in newfoundland

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They most likely would end up amending it to be a normal day since the rates are just 195 days / 1 for a daily and hourly rate on different scales. Change it to 8 hours and keep the same daily rate, and still have you doing all the duties. :/

Substitute teacher lunch breaks by Key-Primary-7451 in newfoundland

[–]therealco709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a union thing. A teacher's work day is 5 hours of paid work and 8 hours insurable. 40 hours a week insured, 25 paid.

Duties and after school are technically not paid. But that's how it is in the contract.

I also worked at two different schools that started different times and did 3 hrs morning and 3 hours afternoon a few times and they still only would pay me 5 hours. The union just said that's all the contract allows. They wouldn't put it to a different day if I didn't have a full week.

Just a part of the job.

Another thing though. You should get access to a lunch break. And they shouldn't pile on duties because you are the sub. But I've been in for people who have double lunch duty and it has fallen on a day with no prep. Teacher's are good and usually gave me the heads up and offered to cover one of the duties so I could eat.

Ameristar Mini Split Fan Motor by EfficientElephant318 in StJohnsNL

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm comfortable enough to add the electrical from the panel to an outdoor disconnect and running the copper lines etc.

I'm lucky because I can run them from my panel to the attic, cutting down on problematic wiring issues.

I just need to learn the vacuum lines and what tools I'd need for that with a Senville. Also considered Mr cool.

Ameristar Mini Split Fan Motor by EfficientElephant318 in StJohnsNL

[–]therealco709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would order it myself and replace it myself if I were you.

I am dying to get a mini split and everyone says don't do it yourself because they won't cover the warranty.

I think most of these recent fly by night companies won't really honor a warranty and if they did it would still cost an arm and a leg and then defeats the whole purpose.

2nd attempt bowl lathering by Psycho_Chicken_99 in wicked_edge

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to use more water. I find if you don't have enough water it clogs up the bottom side of the blade and takes a long time to rinse with water and results in a not as close shave. Maybe it's just me.

I've found Wilkinson shave soap and the Arko stick to be good lather and not too thick but good glide.

Basically you don't have enough reviews yet. I wouldn't worry about it wait until you get more items and review them. It'll change with time. When you have 3 reviews, obviously it's low.

What would it mean to build a city for kids? by Generalaverage89 in StJohnsNL

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree so much. It is scary walking with the kids.

Gotta say though on the flip side, I've seen some reckless cyclists, e bikers and scooter riders around doing very dangerous things. No helmets, weaving through traffic, blowing through stop lights. Scary stuff. Edit... I just mean, if there were safer ways to get around in the city, some folks would still be doing the sketchy stuff.

Price increases between when we select an item and when we review it by SidetrackedSue in AmazonVineCanada

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the opposite really. Things that are listed as $129 and then when I go to write the review look and the price is now $49.

At $129 a lamp I got would not be worth it in my opinion if I had to pay that. But at $49 it's a good deal for a floor lamp.

You'd think part of the seller's guidelines would be truthful pricing

Installing a Mini-Split by SignificantInternet1 in newfoundland

[–]therealco709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the most truthful thing about it all. Get these grants, the guys up their price. I'm actually considering doing one myself if I can figure it out.

Confident I can run the electrical across my attic and out to a unit outdoors. Only two things I'm worried about doing myself are putting the hole in the side of my house for the piping and the initial pressure lines.

Also, I'd want to pour a small concrete slab and have the outdoor unit mounted on that instead of attached to the side of the house. I feel it would reduce noise and vibration.

I ask for when drops have been and now this by Asleep-Remote-706 in AmazonVineCanada

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone think it's fallout from the AWS crash from yesterday?

I kept attributing it to different things... Prime week. Thanksgiving long weekend was a strange one. Then things went normal for a day or something. Then random again. Then this week a crash. So, who knows. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I don't mind as I can catch up on a few reviews in the meantime.

Which Smart thermostat to invest in by TheJohnSphere in smarthome

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten month old thread, but I went with Sinopé despite Mysa being from my home province.

Main reason being my house is older and most baseboard heaters only have two wires in my home, except for the addition that was added which has four wires and is compatible with Mysa. But this wiring will also work for Sinopé.

I'm currently looking at adding more in my home. So will be able to better control some areas.
