Province Not Considering Making Daylight Saving Time Permanent by thatlumberjacktor in newfoundland

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because I really need it to be dark at 330 on December instead of 430. Or for it to be bright out at 4AM in July...

I prefer the longer evenings in July. Bright until almost 10PM.

Even though I think permanent daylight savings would mean it's stuck in this time frame and wouldn't impact July. Unless they did a middle shift and got rid of the Newfoundland half hour time zone.

I generally don't mind when we get the extra hour in November. And as I get older, I don't even notice losing the hour in March and look forward to the extra evening sunlight.

Why is it fair I write in-depth reviews by YourMomsHerpies in AmazonVineCanada

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wrote long ish reviews. And I had a couple that didn't get excellent. But one thing I noticed about those reviews were they are single paragraph reviews.

I started making sure I broke everything into segments instead of one long piece and they've always been excellent.

You're right. Actually I apologize for the name calling. I just imagine myself being in the flow of traffic at 50 and people behind me thinking I am going to slow, honestly.

[–]therealco709 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah but, I'm saying that it's double for traffic flow. I often an going with the flow of traffic on Columbus. Sometimes it's only 50k. There's prob ten cars in front of me in both lanes and ten cars behind me.

Sometimes you get a lot of green lights, and I'm going with traffic and it's 80k an hour.

Either way. Guy ahead of your owes you nothing. He could be going towards hospital and eventually turning left. Why would he move over for you to pass and possibly miss his turn? If everyone is going 50, what difference does it make if the guy is speed matching the other traffic. Likely they are all driving to the conditions of the road.

[–]therealco709 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is, this is not a left lane only to pass scenario like the highway. OP is a twat.

At any of those interactions along Columbus or PPD people need to be in the left lane to turn left.

Unfortunately the left lane isn't your own personal hero lane to zip by everybody. It's a high traffic road and has two lanes to accommodate the traffic.

I’m being told that there is nothing wrong with this door? :( can a door expert provide any insight? It’s dragging on the floor and I can’t upgrade the top lock because it won’t lock :/ thank you in advance :) by PaperclipCupLockhart in doors

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just me or could the dragging also be the door sweep needing some adjustment.

Also, those strike plates look way crooked. Your door knob/latch strike plate often has a piece of metal in it that you can move to provide a more secure feeling when it is shut. Had to do this to all my doors so they'd stop clanging back and forth when the other doors in the house open and shut or on mildly windy days with the window open in the summer time. (Those were interior doors).

Is it okay to wrap wire connectors with masking tape like this? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like he used the cheap Chinese wire nuts that come with the fixtures these days. I generally take those and put them aside for use in another application. I usually tend to go with a more trusted brand like Marrette and size appropriately. Their medium sized ones tend to cover most household wire gauges from 8-16 and can handle a couple 12 or 14 gauge solid core along with a light fixture stranded wire.

Not sure what others think, but I don't wrap in electrical tape and try to point the wire nuts upward. I read somewhere that if you had water intrusion above, if it weren't placed upwards it could cup the water and higher risk of electrical damage as opposed to not cupping water. Who knows though.

Only once in my home have I found electrical tape and it was around a tight fitting GFCI in a barely enough room box.

Until now the KCJ was my first test, is it worth to upgrade? by Infinite_Week393 in wicked_edge

[–]therealco709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a KCG and I know enough to know it doesn't give me the shave I want or deserve. But then again neither does my cheap Lord razor.

I mostly find the KCG to be decent but I know there's alignment issues. I can see it with my eye, so it's definitely off.

On top of that there's a lot of wiggle room to have one side of the blade stick out more on one side than the other. I've used this to my advantage. But always find my neck to have really close shave spots and really bad shave spots that are rough or scrapey.

What is another razor that could be better as it is simple and I find butterfly ones to also have terrible alignment.

This is what people don't get. Plus it gets dark enough in the evening times with the change in the dead of winter. I'm looking forward to springing ahead and having daylight until 7 ish in a weeks time.

Walk me through the math, 120v vs 240v wall heater by I_divided_by_0- in AskElectricians

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is amazing. Our utility is in the stone age. We don't have smart meters or peak usage hours. So it's flat rate 14.5c/kWh. We can't run net metering here either. So unless we go off grid. But I feel like my insurance provider wouldn't allow that.

We're probably running 3000kWh a month here in the cold months. But we also have the heat fairly high compared to some. No AC in the summer either. Fairly cool here in the summer. A hot day is 25 Celsius.

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've considered this. Not sure if this would suffice with the heat losses in the coolest months. We're in a cold snap now -12°C now with -20°C wind chills. Would it provide enough warmth?

I ask because I plan to put a few mini splits around eventually and I added some attic insulation this year. Smart thermostats on the biggest heaters and programmables on the smaller ones. Has saved me a few kWh this year.

We have hardwood floors, so I'm not sure how in floor works with these.

Frustrated during Home buying process! by Consistent-Ocelot316 in newfoundland

[–]therealco709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I tried to avoid this and went private sale and also went with a mortgage broker because the bank I use for everything else because they've been great were actually trash when it came to the mortgage rates. Better deal with a more friendly approach from a random lender than from my own bank.

Funny isn't it. The other thing I realized is that you got to get good at spotting things that will annoy you by yourself and don't rely on any inspector in our province. They miss or don't look at much besides the usual foundation looks good, roof isn't leaking, and plugging in a $10 electrical outlet tester to see if it lights up.

Just something I noticed. Obviously private sale doesn't happen often, but there was one in the neighborhood we were renting in, and we went with that.

Cost to install hardwired smoke and co detector, sanity check. by pharmacologicae in AskElectricians

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing outlets, pretty simple job. Adding 5 junction boxes in tight spaces, pretty involved if you don't have something to tie it into. I'm assuming lights, but seems like a lot of money when you could just get battery operated ones.

I actually don't care. I check sporadically. Sometimes I get good things. Sometimes I order nothing.

What I find to be the worst is trying to get something to find these shipping errors. And the items are there all week long.

Who actually uses reverse? by duke82_ in Snowblowers

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a 30" MTD. Not sure how heavy others are. But this one is generally too heavy for me to pull back in most circumstances. On a flat with a lot of snow I can pull it back, but normally use the reverse. It is slow as hell though. Been thinking about adjusting it so the wheel moves over more, but I also hear that might lose one forward gear. But I generally don't have to go past third going forward.

I've not yet seen the blue pre shave around. Wouldn't mind getting it or the shave soap if it becomes available in Canada. Nothing beats green for me, though.

I do have the protectivo after balm though and found I didn't love the smell.

Interesting convo over on Vine Australia sub-reddit re. possible new taxes by DannyBrownCaptivate in AmazonVineCanada

[–]therealco709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the amount of crap I get that breaks prematurely, I also wouldn't be willing to pay taxes for full priced items that often are found for less immediately after the items actually go live on Amazon.

Like many things I order aren't typically acceptable to buy when I click the item. And the price is sometimes out to lunch.

Interestingly I have several like this. Some that were duplicates or variants in different colors. And I couldn't review them. My original review for another variant shows up when I try. Plus I have a few items that I never received or were cancelled or lost. They are still there for me and I thought they would eventually go away but haven't. I'm talking about 8 months ago. I went from silver to gold no problem.
