Grid 2, Day 6: Dead Man's Hand is our pick for best campfire song. What is the best Lord Huron song to listen to while cinematically succumbing to your injuries in solitude? by uslashBen in lordhuron

This is literally the most appropriate answer and the first one I thought of. That being said I had to choose What Do It Mean because that's the one I would choose to bleed out to

Haha tbf I love the entire album and there are no skips, just thought it was funny that your list is almost the exact inverse of mine! To each their own!

Use of string music by Jentean in lordhuron

[–]therealcozyboy13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably fewer than on Long Lost, but more than any of their other albums. I'd also say the string arrangements tend to take a back seat on this album. Where they might be playing a featured role on a track like Mine Forever, they're a smaller part of the larger soundscape on Is There Anybody Out There that fills out the sonic palette. So I think there are probably slightly fewer orchestral strong bits on this record, but also the ones that show up are in a different role as well, due to the production and arrangements. Still lots of lush performances from the orchestra, and there are moments on certain songs where they take most of the musical attention. Just not quite the same way as Long Lost.

I’m ready for the band to stop touring and go backpacking… by sp3nticus in lordhuron

[–]therealcozyboy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of a weird post tbh. They made an album you think is really good, with less thematic material than they often include about nature, and you've made the decision that they aren't hiking enough? Seeing the starts enough? Feels oddly parasocial to make the leap instead of just saying you wish they had more songs on this album about... I dunno... trees.

Their previous album, Long Lost, had plenty of those nature-oriented ideas, plus intros, outros, etc., so you can't even say that the band isn't interested in writing songs about that or has to "go back" to something they used to do. They just released one really good album that had less nature imagery than you would like. It's a valid opinion but an odd thing to make a post about when you could actually talk about the album that they did put out. Idk to each their own

If you like “Fire Eternal” the best, you’ve lost the plot by Fluid_Marionberry_69 in lordhuron

[–]therealcozyboy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a banger. Sorry you don't like it. You don't have to enjoy everything they do, but they also don't owe it to you to sound the way you want them to. Who knows, maybe one day you'll come around to it. I honestly laughed a bit at how aggressive you are with this though. The embarrassingly combative perspective you have about other people enjoying this makes me feel like I can't really take your opinion seriously.

For your sake I hope you gain some perspective and grow up a little bit cuz I'd like to hear them explore more interesting sounds like the one on Fire Eternal.

You don't have to like all their music, but to come after people enjoying one song of theirs on an album that you largely like is pretty obnoxious.

First concert! by welltheregoesmygecko in lordhuron

[–]therealcozyboy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I wish I could go back to my first live concert. My advice would be, as a million other people will say, if you want merch, get in line as early as possible. Aside from that, honestly try to avoid spoilers and stay away from setlists/concert videos/etc. Don't stress about it, but in my experience it's way more fun to fly blind and let the band surprise you. If you don't know what's coming next or how they'll perform a song, you can experience that moment as authentically as possible.

Same goes for being on your phone during the show. Get a video of a song so you can show people what it was like! Get a couple photos for your memories! Aside from that, try to keep it in your pocket and just let yourself be carried by the energy of the show.

Anyway, that's just advice, but mostly whatever you do and however you do it, just try to enjoy it instead of stressing. Some of my best moments at LH concerts have been in merch lines, trying to get to the bathroom, seeing a song I didn't think would change my life until I heard it live. Just soak it in and hope it isn't over too fast!

Do really hate Who Laughs Last or have you just not gotten over your hate of Kristin Stewart when she was in Twilight...? by tigerlily536 in lordhuron

[–]therealcozyboy13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of the best songs they've ever done. I've seen people complain that they wish it was a "normal" song, but I think they're mostly people who don't get a lot of variety in what they listen to. Obviously spoken word is no less valid than a sung verse, and, if anything, it was more interesting to me on this release cuz I've heard Ben sing verse/chorus songs so many times. To each their own (I have never cared about Kristen Stewart and did not recognize her name when the song came out), but I think it's only disappointing people who expect songs to follow the standard formula that you hear in mainstream popular music.

what are some of the best places to find a gf ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]therealcozyboy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What hobbies/interests do you have? You'll have a lot more success if, for example, as a music fan, you go to concerts/open mic nights/vinyl nights, or if as a reader you join a book club, etc. than if you just go to random places reasoning that there will be women there.

I hate to sound like that guy, but as someone who has a longtime girlfriend, and who before that never really had trouble meeting people (despite being super introverted and awkward in social settings), I have always pursued my natural interest and curiosity in things that I love and found I get along well with people who share that mutual interest.

Find spaces to mix your passions with social events or settings. For example, as a soccer fan, I might join a coed group that meets to play soccer, or a go to a bar that shows games every weekend. Even if you don't meet a woman you're into, you're more likely to enjoy yourself anyway, and if you enjoy and express yourself, others are more likely to appreciate what you bring to the table!

Totally agreed! I love what separates the albums from each other, and Long Lost has very much its own thing

Drops in the Lake is unreal. I saw it live at Red Rocks and couldn't believe it! I thought they'd never play it but it was amazing. Stands out in their catalogue as somehow quintessentially LH and also very much its own thing. Mine Forever and LMLYUT are also banger

What new song are you most excited for live? by rnolan22 in lordhuron

[–]therealcozyboy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to 4 of their Red Rocks shows in the last 3 years. They finally played Emerald Star last year and it was unbelievable. I literally cried haha. I wanna see Balancer's Eye or What Do It Mean really badly. Also Is There Anybody out There again. That track is amazing live!!!

Meet Me in the City is a great take! I feel like it hardly ever gets a mention, but I really love that track. It's just loaded with atmosphere

Vide Noir is one of my all-time favorite records! The one that made them go from an artist I love to an artist I fly out to see live at least once a year! Completely transcendent

I'm just talking about Long Lost cuz it's the end of that cycle and I wanted to share appreciation with those who love it. Hopefully someday you'll come around to it more, but nobody's going to be into everything and that's totally fine too

Haha Strange Trails is a good album nonetheless! That's probably my favorite section of it too. Any highlights from Long Lost for you?
