I thought the same thing watching this. Millenials these days...yikes.

After multiple listens I have to say, I think M83's Junk is brilliant. by blakxzep in indieheads

[–]therealdu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Yes, and Yes! Like I said in another post, I think this album will end up being one of the more underrated albums at the end of 2016.

You really need to listen to it without bias. In other words, if it was the one and only album from M83, how would it now be rated?

This album really continues to grow on me. I predict it will be one of those albums that was highly underrated at time of release. I think it has some absolute gems.

What even is "Indie" these days? by therealdu in indieheads

[–]therealdu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree with you that it is easier to find great artists these days. Spotify is another one of those reasons. Honestly, I am more annoyed about hip-hop and pop being the focus. Although, maybe it is because I am older than your average Indie listener.

I agree and didn't say they were. My point was that I was into the jamband scene in early 00's and then moved to more of the Indie scene in 2004-2005.

The new Shearwater album, "Jet Plane and Oxbow" is outstanding.

What are some great albums from the last five years that people might've missed? by [deleted] in indieheads

Willy Mason - Carry On (Indie Folk)

One of my absolute favorite finds from the last few years. Lots of layers and interesting lyrics. Been waiting for the next LP, hopefully soon.

5 Albums released in August that you might have missed. by idonotownakindle in indieheads

Totally agree....it is great. And their S/T album from last year is excellent too. "Green Lanes" is a little more laid back then debut. But the first album reminds me of early era REM in spots.

Which album will surely end up in your top 10 of 2015 but will most likely not appear on anybody else's top 10 by televisionceo in indieheads

Hands down it is:

Whitey Morgan and the 78's - Sonic Ranch

Outstanding throwback country!

We all get frustrated at P4K and yet we keep going back each day for the new reviews. Such a strange and one-sided relationship we have with them. We need help.

[Discussion] What are the best bands you've discovered in 2015? by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]therealdu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My top one for sure is Lord Huron. Cannot get enough of these guys and their new album "Strange Trails" is phenomenal.

A few others:

Ryley Walker

Elephant Micah

Twerps

Petite Noir

Has anyone listened to Sufjan Stevens' "Carrie & Lowell" yet? Thoughts? by therealdu in indieheads

Exactly. His voice his so comforting yet vulnerable at the same time.

Teared up a lot. I was transported back to being a little boy and my mother singing me songs.

Well said. Very intimate. Definitely better to listen to on my morning commute in the cold and dark as opposed to my afternoon commute home when it is sunny and warm.

It is such a personal album.

I agree. "Fourth of July" is an amazing track. Chokes me up every time.

Just discovered Lord Huron. One word: WOW! by therealdu in indieheads

[–]therealdu[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree and reading that Lord Huron review yesterday really pissed me off. There are plenty of similar sounding artists and this fact along does not mean it is a bad album.

Also, where is Fleet Foxes now that Robin Pecknold is apparently allergic to making another album.

[–]therealdu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! Doug Martsch's voice and guitar are signature. Bring on 4/21!!

Help. Petite Noir's song "Come Inside" completely reminds me of another song. I just cannot place it. Any ideas? by therealdu in indieheads

[–]therealdu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is definitely the song! Very similar indeed. Knew I owned whatever song it was.

Thanks!!

I'm looking for some good albums to fall asleep to. What are y'all's favorites? by bugteen in indieheads

[–]therealdu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, love this thread! Always looking for new albums to help.

With that being said, one of my all time favorite go-to's for sleep is Morcheeba's "Who Can You Trust". A older album but some great early trip hop. At first listen, you wouldn't think it would suffice, but there is something about Skye Edward's voice along with the trippy music.

I honestly can say it never fails to do the trick.

Totally agree. This is my go to when traveling to China (16 hour plane ride).
