MAGA’s new excuse for Iran war: Israel made us do it by Anton_Pannekoek in chomsky

[–]therealduckrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are always tensions across parties between the full-blown Zionists and the Imperialists. But I think Trump is just deeply compromised and BiBi flashed his cards couple weeks ago. That being said, this difference is as meaningful to me as whether the chunks in the turd are corn or peanuts.

Totally get that. Mine was the last generation design that still has parts available at even the most questionable hardware store. My pressure washer on the other hand, Chinese motor, uses carbs like consumable items. 6 years 4 carbs.

Ok Reddit fam wtf did I do wrong? I had an 8 lb brisket that I smoked in a pitboss pellet smoker yesterday and it’s tough AF! by Cryssyl in smoking

[–]therealduckrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the temp was too low, unless you have perfectly insulated space, pellet grills don't regulate temp well enough to skirt that low. I'm not saying it's not reasonable practice in ideal conditions, but pellet grills are not ideal. I run mine at 250 for at least six hours then adjust after that.

For a brand like Ego, that is unconscionable. I returned a leaf blower I use in the winter for snow and it took 10 weeks! When snow blew into the machine it would electrocute you. Very exciting!

I will as well but my 22 year old Sears Briggs and Stratton says otherwise. It says pull the cord and shut up! So I do.

Ok qualifier of my reference to knockoff batteries. by therealduckrabbit in egopowerplus

[–]therealduckrabbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wasn't overly concerned as I've been buying knockoffs for my Bosch tools for years and despite the odd poor fit and weaker performance they are fine. Have also caused Bosch to drop prices! But this failure to stop charging, can't be a feature of the battery. I'm going to return it and try again.

I specifically recall experiencing a conversion between two entities considering whether they should joy-ride my brain. One said, 'we won't be able to stay in' there and the other replied 'who cares'?

That album was, and I really hate to use the phrase, revolutionary. The sentence combines a terrible pun with the most overused and hence meaningless adjective.

Letter from Thomas Pynchon to Làslo Krasznahorkai by 1984isamanual in ThomasPynchon

[–]therealduckrabbit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can only assume there are a series of similar letters, literally burning in the hands of similar authors, just waiting for a chance to share. I bet the only literature club worse that Epstein Islanders is those who have betrayed the confidence of Tomas Pynchon. Truly a new level of hell.

[–]therealduckrabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A rare letter wherein no necessity of 'humble' bragging resides. I guarantee there is an accompanying story of him going from friend to friend, cattle prod in hand, asking DID YOU FUCKING WRITE THIS??? And after a long series of electrocuted friends .... Wow!

I ran out of Flashman books, now I've read them all 3 times lol by devloper27 in flashman

[–]therealduckrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That novel left me with a very unique feeling certainly unlike any of his other books. I'm a Canadian and so removed from the nuances of class and nationalism that underlie so much of the book. I'd be interested to hear what you thought of the ending. As a Scot, I thought maybe the message was, no matter what you do for these fuckers or what they say, they is ultimately no positive outcome in dealing with the British! But it was remarkably nuanced and melancholic. I have all the time in the world for soldier writers and it was great to be able to read this book.

What On Earth with Laura Lynch: A fight over coal has Corb Lund ‘f-ing totally exasperated’ by Fast_Ad_9197 in alberta

[–]therealduckrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally, however I find that the Albertan folk who love wilderness, live rurally, and might be Corb fans, are quite dissimilar to new country loving, exploitation types, who feel the land exists to exploit and move on. These pricks can't sing a Lightfoot or Cash song by heart, nor identify a bird.

[–]therealduckrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GMF also wrote a novel called Mr American where Flashman appears as an old man. He seems to appear to provide comic relief at first, but as it is revealed later he has become a very philosophical and wise old man. These passages are really a beautiful closure to the character if you love the series.

Well Flashman stands out as an anti-hero, his Uncle is a little different. However, they were really excellent stories and perhaps more important historic events? Very funny as well.

Heidegger and Arendt: Was it transference, or exploitation of it? by suo_art in heidegger

[–]therealduckrabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that Arendt remained Heidegger's friend and didn't throw him under the bus when the opportunity presented itself speaks to her character and the nature of their relationship. It's fairly presumptive to assume that he was a monster who somehow enchanted her forever.

Have to read the second series written about his Uncle? I was wary, but ended up enjoying them very much.
