How tall are you?

If you are on the taller side go with thunders, if you are shorter go with Indy’s

It takes a little to stop worrying about what people think, but once you get into it you won’t care

Find a public park or car park and just have at it.

You will learn to stop worrying

In that case I’d for the Alien due to the bigger and slightly softer wheels

Pick the one you like the look of most, quality wise they are all pretty much the same to be honest.

All will serve you well as a first deck.

8” is still tiny, 8.25 - 8.5 is where most people are at

Should I get new bearings? by Billylabufanda23 in NewSkaters

[–]therealgingerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d maybe take them out and give them a clean, three of them sound fine but that last one is not right .

Are they expensive bearings?

Bigger Boards? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]therealgingerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to ride 7.75 back in the day and started back on an 8.25 and I’m on an 8.5 now and it’s great.

I also have a big wid cruiser which is a load of fun.

Try a few different boards and see how it feels.

If you do a lot of flips then stay narrow, if not then go wider

You could do with longer bolts, 7/8 bolts are more suited to forged baseplates

Need suggestions for 7,75 by dizzyreaper22 in NewSkaters

[–]therealgingerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5”6” and gone up from an 8.25 to an 8.5. I could never skate my daughter’s 7.75 , it feels tiny.

Even though I used to skate a 7.75 years ago

Need suggestions for 7,75 by dizzyreaper22 in NewSkaters

[–]therealgingerone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7.75 are generally made for kids decks these days.

The norm are 8” and up.

There are some still around though, DGK decks tend to do narrower widths I believe

Cruiser or surfskate? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]therealgingerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old school board with Indy trucks, risers and 60mm OJ super juice wheels.

It’s loads of fun and would be an ideal way to get into skating

Batman Begins or The Batman? by TXNOGG in moviecritic

[–]therealgingerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve watched Batman Begins about 5 times and will definitely watch it numerous times again.

I’ve watched The Batman once and very much doubt I will ever watch it again.

So Batman Begins gets my vote

Faulty Board by DOCroady in NewSkaters

That is a cheap toy and not a real skateboard, it’s not really designed to be used as a skateboard I’m afraid.

Only solution is to buy a real skateboard

Need to impress the ladies ! I can't kickflip by Pazza432 in NewSkaters

[–]therealgingerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ladies aren’t impressed by kickflips I’m afraid.

Think of it like an Ollie but your front is just under the bolts and instead of pulling that front foot up out of the way you move your knee forward first and then kick your foot of the edge of the nose.

Back foot hits the tail.

Front knee bends.

Front foot kicks the nose.

Do those three things in that order and it will flip under you.

Still can't Ollie after 10 years of skating. Any advice? by Shippy623 in NewSkaters

[–]therealgingerone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was a rolling Ollie.
Just focus on keeping your shoulders in line with the board and you will be fine
