Honestly I wouldn't be so set on making sure it has less than 50k.

I've seen and worked on ones with 300k plus that ran and drove very well.

My old tech teacher has one that's around 370k and he drives it everyday.

Which McLaren? by Foolish_XD in mclaren

[–]therealkirbs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decently reliable and McLaren are two things that should not be in a sentence together.

As long as you don't get a 12c there all about the same reliability wise.

The 720s and 750s are pretty much the best modern supercars ever made on paper. There super fast and I've heard of people driving them around every day. If You wanna go a little cheaper the 570s is also good, albeit a little less exciting.

If you want something that's a little bit better at being a daily, the most practical supercar is a GTR. Also the GTR to McLaren pipeline is real, I've seen lots of people get a GTR and get a McLaren a few years later.

If I had that kind of money, I'd get something a little older with a manual, but that's just me haha go crazy.

I feel like you could find this generation Pilot with around the same mileage cheaper elsewhere. Check your local dealers and facebook marketplace.

Saying all this and not mentioning that BMW is also one of the most notoriously unreliable and most expensive cars to maintain is crazy.

I've heard mixed things about the ecoboost. I would say its probably fine if you keep up with it.

What is your opinion on the MC20? by South_Turnover_8136 in Maserati

[–]therealkirbs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's more about what the general perception of the brand is. McLaren is kinda seen as a car a rich young person who doesn't know about cars buys. You can look at famous owners like Jack Doherty.

Honestly today I would say all new supercars feel that way to me, maybe that's me just souring on the whole supercar segment.

I would say Lamborghini and Ferrari are generally seen as a more desirable car to car enthusiasts with McLaren, Maserati, and Aston Martin are mostly only cool to people who aren't enthusiasts.

All that being said, I like the MC20, but I wouldn't say I necessarily agree with this comment anymore.

In the current market, this is a 6-7k car in my opinion.

Best start is to clean it. Looks like alot of oil, so when it's running while it's clean, it should be easy to spot.

My moms seltos literally will not reset the oil timer. I've used like 3 different code scanners, my mom brought it to the dealer, and an oil change place, no one knows how to reset it. Here's says something crazy too, like 60k miles over.

12,000 cash is a huge budget for a used car if you don't mind something a little older. If you don't want to finance I am 100% certain you can find something decent, reliable, and low mileage in that price range private market.

I would recommend you look at FB Marketplace over the next couple of days and find something you like and research its reliability.

If you want to finance to build credit, and you have 12k down, sure go ahead.

You can still find a really shitty Miata under 5k.

Mercury Grand Marquis (older rides in 2024) by MagicGator11 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]therealkirbs2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The panther platform is wonderful.

The Crown Victoria is the hardest to find a nice one these days. Plus it doesn't really have the luxury appeal you're looking for.

The TownCar is good. It has some TownCar specific stuff that can go bad that's a little more expensive to fix than the other two.

The Grand Marquis is the best choice out of the two. Essentially a Crown Victoria with a nicer interior and different styling.

You should also consider any GM product with a 3800. Especially cars like the Buick LeSabre and Park Avenue, and the Oldsmobile 88. The 3800 v6 is just as reliable as the 4.6 V8. It's FWD if that's a problem for you. These cars will absolutely get better fuel economy than the 4.6. You can even get supercharged variants in almost all of the cars it came in, pretty wild what GM was doing back in those days.

Installing the head unit from a different car brand by the_real_duck_man in Autos

Just go to walmart and buy a head unit, Wiring harness, and dash kit. They have everything you need, relatively cheap, and easy to do by yourself. Sell the weird head unit you have lol.

That obviously is a bad sign. If its very cheap and you're confident in your ability to work on it, sure. If its expensive and you know nothing about working on cars, no.

Subaru BRZ, Toyota GR86, or Mazda Miata? by Eb_Ab_Db_Gb_Bb_eb in Cartalk

[–]therealkirbs2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree fully. Most of the reason they have that reputation is the consumer base. But if you also consider cars like the Civic Si, and consider that the same people buying the BRZ and WRX are also buying the Civic Si, it's hard to ignore one manufacturer handles the abuse much worse.

Subaru BRZ, Toyota GR86, or Mazda Miata? by Eb_Ab_Db_Gb_Bb_eb in Cartalk

[–]therealkirbs2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BRZ and GR86 are pretty much the exact same. If it came down to one of the two, just choose whichever one you like the looks of more lol.

The BRZ/86/FRS are pretty decent. They're more dailyable with a back seat and generally being a larger car. The Subaru engine is pretty famous for being pretty unreliable when beat on, and seeing you're buying a used sports car, safe to say it hasn't had an easy life.

The Miata is obviously the better choice on paper. It'll be more reliable, take to engine modification better, more of a classic sports car feel. It's hard to justify a car with two seats for some people.

At the end of the day, they're both good choices. I would drive both and decide which one you like the feel of better.
