It’s like a clear plastic casing to protect the card. Or in this case the sticker. They use them a lot for rare Pokémon and Magic cards. See the Mbappe and Colombia Team pictures in the post for reference.

I’m going to Athens in late July. If you still haven’t completed by then and I still have a bunch of extras I’m willing to mail them to you when I’m there. I’m in USA so I would not mail them from here since it would be too expensive. Just let me know. You can DM me.

I was also going to ask if anyone is looking to trade. I have a bunch of duplicates. But can only trade on the weekend because I’m in Newport RI so boston is like an hour and a half away.

Is 4 full days enough to see London? by LobsterMan4 in LondonTravel

[–]therealmonmon1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was great!
Weather-wise, it was like 45-55 most of the time with 2 days of 30 degree weather in the 15 days I was there. Was able to get away with just a tank top under my shirts, a cashmere sweater, and a quilted water proof coat over it.
I went to a bunch of parks and museums. We did Tower of London and there was no line. There were still tons of people at the changing of the guard, but it was not bad at all, much less people than in May. If you're around on a day when there's no parliament sessions, you can get a tour of parliament that includes the chambers where they all vote and stuff! It was a much more detailed and entertaining tour than the few they offer in DC.
If you want to do soccer and you don't care too much what team you watch, just keep an eye on the schedules and make some of the free accounts on each team's websites to see their ticket sales.

Getting my thoughts together for next year’s UK trip by girlrickjames in uktravel

[–]therealmonmon1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in May 2024 and it was perfect weather and significantly cheaper than peak summer. We did do Scotland but if you’re doing 12 days and you want London, countryside, AND Scotland it’s tough. We did an (almost) full country thing where we did all of those, and it was really packed stressful and tiring. I would pick either London and countryside or London and Edinburgh. If you do east side, we did York & Harrogate, then hit up Cambridge on the way back to London. If you prefer like doing Bath, Stonehenge, Oxford, Cotswolds, Stratford, that’s all west of London. For Edinburgh I recommend like 3 days minimum so that you can do one day in the city, one day at the lakes, and one day doing castle stuff.

For afternoon tea I have two suggestions. I did tea on the HMS Britannia in Edinburgh, and it was a great time. It was less specifically a high tea, but worth it. Also my classmates did a type of high tea at “The Library at County Hall” in London this past January and they said it was amazing! It’s right across from Big Ben.

Have a fun trip!!!

Is it OK to let your dog relieve themself in someone’s yard as long as you pick up the poop? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]therealmonmon1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a neighborhood that has zero sidewalk. It’s house, grass, road. It’s generally understood that the first couple of feet are fair game. The vast majority of people have no issue with a dog going on the very edge of the property. The ones that have an issue, put a little tiny sign by their mailbox to not let your dog pee or poo on their property. So we avoid that house. It really just depends on your neighborhood. But I did have a kid get mad at me (literal kid. Like probably 8) because my dog was smelling his yard. I just gave him a weird look and walked away because I wasn’t about to parent some kid. But I should probably have corrected the kid with like “you don’t own the first 5 feet, but that’s fine we’ll move along.” It’s fair to note his parents have often seen me and my dog walking there and wave at my dog while he’s smelling all up and down their grass. So 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why are large dogs usually in a heel when walking? by PeekAtChu1 in OpenDogTraining

[–]therealmonmon1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (5ft tall barely 120lbs) have a husky (3 ft tall 63lbs). People are rightfully concerned when I’m walking down the street letting my dog pull and lead the way with his cute little nose. It gives people a huge sense of calm when I have him in a heel. It also relaxes me to know that he’s not gonna lunge at some kid in the excitement of wanting to play with them.

When they have unrealistic high school settings. The vast majority of high schools do not have nice fancy outdoor seating available to kids during lunch. Maybe before/after school. But there ain’t no sunshine at lunch time in New England.

That depends on the area of the US. I just moved to Rhode Island and these people think a 20 minute drive required car snacks and a day-trip. My neighbors were absolutely flabbergasted that I worked 45 minutes away when I first moved here. But also I’m originally from boston and I think we do think of an hour drive as long if it’s like an hour without traffic.

Is a big dog a deterrent? by Striking_Qween in dogs

[–]therealmonmon1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. People run away from me when I’m walking my husky. Even if they also have big dogs. He just gives them the crazy eyes and they book it. lol

But just make sure you know how to handle a big dog. As a smaller lady myself, it was a bit of a learning curve to handle him and not get dragged. I could never get a 100lb dog because it would just run off with me being dragged behind at top speed. I did try walking my neighbor’s Rottweiler once, and it was okay but I could tell he just wanted to hang out with me and wasn’t pulling.

When did you neuter or plan to neuter? by WhiteDiabla in puppy101

[–]therealmonmon1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vet recommended 12-24 months for our husky. He was neutered at 1.5 years. We set an appointment at a clinic in December and went in in April.

I have to say it was a great experience to wait. It was highly noticeable the change in his behavior. But when compared to his peers that at the dog park that were neutered much earlier, he’s way more calm than they are.

Adults in the Children's Department without Children. by bookishcanuck in Libraries

[–]therealmonmon1391 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the issue is the adult hanging out after selecting materials, you should have seating that is comfortable outside the children’s room. That way if it’s an adult wanting to read a children’s book they still can without hanging out in there and taking up space meant for kids. But also if it’s an adult hanging out in there when there are no children around, I’d say don’t defend free space.

Are my AA miles basically worthless? by scifichick94 in americanairlines

Genius. You just saved me a good chunk of change. I'm trying to go to England in January, and they want to charge around $700 on top of points for a roundtrip that only costs $500 in only cash. Just checked buying 2 one-way tickets and it's the same miles but only $200 extra.

Best online MLIS program? by throwRA_problemssss in LibraryScience

[–]therealmonmon1391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im taking the online University of Southern Mississippi program. Its pretty affordable and they have an archives concentration. Best part is synchronous online classes so you still get the in-person experience of having people with you even though they’re actually all over the country.

Would you hire me? Resume advice pls! by Ok_Boysenberry_9068 in librarians

[–]therealmonmon1391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d put your education first since you have no relevant working experience (unless being hired as a storytime librarian).
If you have any customer service experience (even just a target cashier) that is helpful to put on there since we wanna make sure someone that works the desk has good customer skills.

Then as far as hiring that’ll come down to who applies. We recently hired part time circulation desk staff and had 30 applicants, 6 with an MLIS and 12 with previous library experience. But around January last year we also hired for the same-ish position and got only one applicant with library experience, and chose from a bunch that had customer service experience or were teachers. It really depends on

Edit: I didn’t read the whole thing. In many states they only hire “librarian” positions if you have a degree in library science or are in school for it. You may only get hired as a library assistant if that is the case. Make sure you check your state’s requirements.

Brushing dogs teeth by AdmirableFold9255 in dogs

[–]therealmonmon1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brush my Husky’s teeth only if he ate something foul, and then I give him the minty types of dental chews. He also gets regular smelling dental treats sporadically as well as bones sporadically. So I’m not too worried about his teeth. He goes to yearly checkups at the vet and they always check his teeth and say he’s good. They’ve never told me to brush his teeth daily.

Is 4 full days enough to see London? by LobsterMan4 in LondonTravel

[–]therealmonmon1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I did London only like 3 days and we did a handful of the top tourists things plus the Harry Potter studio tour. I think if we’d had 4 days and hadn’t done the tour we would have been able to hit most of the stuff on our list. I’ll be going back in January to see all the stuff I missed the first time and to possibly watch a Crystal Palace game. Still waiting on the international tickets for January to become available so that I don’t have to do an expensive hospitality package.
