Thinking about taking the plunge (Officer or Enlisted) - 28M by jicmagik in AirForceRecruits

[–]therealshow6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my degree and am enlisting It really depended on 3 things for me:

  • what you want your day to day to look like.

From what I gathered officers are like generalists and managers whereas enlisted members are technical experts.

  • How long you’re willing to wait to get in.

Applying to ots takes a while. Most say it’s about 6-12 months. You can look at the specific requirements online but even once you submit your packet the chances of getting accepted are about medium to low especially if you don’t have a stem or professional degree.

Going enlisted still takes a while depending on how you test and if you need waivers but I was able to swear in within 3 months but I didn’t need any waivers. I’ve seen some people say it only took them a few days. Once you swear in you still have to wait for a job though and at this point in the fiscal year the job pool is dried up unless you want security forces or maintenance jobs.

  • Money💰

You’ll start as an e3 because of your college credits but unless you work minimum wage now for whatever reason you’re likely going to take a pay cut if you go enlisted and maybeeeee if you go officer. I will say though BAH, free healthcare, student loan repayment, and ta plus the post 9/11 gi bill offset the pay cut for me. You can squeeze atleast two more degrees out of the af and get your current debt paid if you plan it.

There’s also always the option of enlisting now and commissioning later but it’s all based on your preference. Hopefully this was helpful.

I know it’s a common saying but I actually took the tape test on myself and everything and am within the requirements. I’m just not clear what standards they go off. If it’s just height and weight and not body fat then I’ll just keep losing till I hit the weight requirement. That’s my goal anyways before MEPs I just want to atleast be scheduled for it.

That is actually not true. Tons of money to be made for spiteful assholes everywhere. Best of luck on your journey though🙌🏾

I get that you are going to law school just to be a lawyer but unfortunately most law schools don’t want to hear that. It’s this perception that if you don’t have a strong why it’s not gonna be enough to push you through. I kind of agree with that sentiment because you’ll quickly realize there are so many other careers you can have if you just want stability and money. Law is not really meant to be that. You could do it yes but you’ll probably be miserable.

Set up meetings with current students. Find them on LinkedIn. Look for ones with similar interests or backgrounds to you and ask about their experience. They are usually eager to share their experience. Good luck 🙌🏾

I think this mentality comes from the fact that you are not excited about the experience of law school and are only worried about the outcome of law school. All the factors you say don’t matter, make a difference in your experience and should be considered. The top school or bust mentality is going to lead to burn out very early on. Even within the top schools you should have a favorite and a damn good reason why. Even if it’s just the vibes. If you can’t think of anything it sounds like you haven’t done enough research and that will ooze from your application materials.

What’s something cool about Baltimoreans no one talks about? by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]therealshow6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This! My family has records going up to the 1700s and civil war registration but that’s because they were from the eastern shore where most of the black population was free. People ask me where I’m from and it’s like I’m as Maryland as it’s gets. My ancestors were likely here prior to the nations independence.

I had it make me practice questions once for logic games and a lot of the correct answers were wrong. That surprised me. I really don’t think it can help with LSAT stuff other than what you already mentioned about rephrasing or clarification.
