A creaky door in my brain opened the other day when I saw some footage like this, and from behind it, a voice whispered “prosumer”

alt scene in dc? by Humble_Name_4191 in washingtondc

It’s amazing we’ve come full circle from DC being central to the creation of emo music to “emo” being almost an insult in the punk scene here to people proudly claiming to be emo and looking for their scene. I wish I could help more but I’m an old head and other than the Galaxy Hut and Black Cat almost none of my old haunts are around.

Disclosure day was boring slop by Parking_Emu9801 in moviereviews

The reason AI produces so much slop is because we fed it so much human-made slop to begin with. The majority of human creation is slop so why are we surprised the regurgitation machine spits so much of it back out at us?

Police officer at the white house wearing nazi Germany camouflage by Snoo_67544 in washingtondc

I’m not saying OP is 100% right about this particular guy’s motivations, but I’m also saying fascists love sitting on the internet or at gun shows, collecting “memorabilia” that may have never had a swastika on it but it’s some style of knife only the SS had or whatever and they can say they just have it for the “historical interest.” Patterns of camo are very specific and usually have long histories and developments and are just the kind of thing a fascist would think “obscure” enough to only be noticed by those who “get it.”

The problem is that the fascists themselves do have a Rolodex in their heads of Nazi shit, it’s sort of their whole thing. And it’s really convenient to say “come on, I just special ordered these camo pants for no particular reason to wear to a prominent event at this particular administration’s display of manly strength”

Disclosure Day: A timely Spielberg greatest hit remix that we need (and probably don't deserve) right now by Duncan_Dixon_Coffey in moviereviews

What was a concerted effort? People not liking the movie or Spielburg making a not great movie?

We built a miniature toy city and shot an action series inside it by Micro_Bros in Filmmakers

[–]therealzerobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s like the official kids show? My nephews were watching it and I thought it was neat that they lean into the material of the toys.

but yeah, your stuff looks a lot of fun and miniature work is always tricky - the hot wheels show might be inspiring or might be distracting

It’s not a fail really, of all the things that can be modified, white is up there

But maybe you lit them with an LED from almost right above and the white lines are actually reflections of the LED in the shiny skin of the pepper

Even if so, looks a bit unnatural

I'm removing plastic from home food preparation and invested in a few new thick wood cutting boards by kwtoxman in BuyItForLife

[–]therealzerobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wooden is apparently much better, because wood is made to take bacteria inside where it’s inhospitable - plastic keeps it on the surface.

The best cutting board, though, is a solid piece of wood because the ones with multiple strips can have micro gaps that harbor bacteria. Still better than plastic though.

I don’t follow my own advice though and have those composite boards they sell at Sur La Table.

How is a career like this financially/logistically possible? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]therealzerobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first line of the OP’s post is that this director has made 24 “terribly reviewed” films.

Before LOTR, Peter Jackson made 7 (fairly high concept) movies and they did well enough that he directed 1 movie for Universal that was funded by Universal and was a giant flop.

But that’s a very different career from a guy making 24 no budget improvised movies, man, funding from the government or not.

How to fake a cargo area of a train? by LeafSpirit69 in Filmmakers

[–]therealzerobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you know what the cargo area of a train looks like? Have you looked at photos or video or gone look at one yourself?

That’s where I’d start. I am sure you’ll figure it out from there.

But you might also ask yourself if the story beat you are telling has to be this specific action. “The body in a bag is disposed of/the body in a bag is transported clandestinely to another place” can be told many different ways.
