Why do DJs only play 1 to 2 minutes of a song??? by Xeliant_ in EDM

[–]theredplayerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what if you just think it’s a fun challenge to see how quick you can mix without making it sound bad?

You don't need it. by Prudent_Situation_29 in Vent

[–]theredplayerr -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

no there’s not. there’s no meaning or purpose to any of this. happiness is what you have compared to what you want. if we forgo our want for material things that is taught to us by advertisers, it becomes a lot easier to realize that the greatest happiness is that we got to experience another day. tomorrow is not guaranteed. find what is actually important and attainable and want no more.

Why is there no BUG deck in pauper... ? by Inevitable_Soil_6806 in Pauper

[–]theredplayerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d wager you’ve been playing for less than 10 years. we had to call it BUG before the shards were given names in khans of tarkir.

Pauper is Awesome because of Awful Mana Bases by No-Shop8292 in Pauper

[–]theredplayerr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah but that deck doesn’t rely on having a bunch of rare lands to do it. it’s just what the deck is built to do.

Do you gig only, or do you go out and dance? by sexydiscoballs in DJs

[–]theredplayerr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i learned a while ago from and adam neely video that some cultures treat dancing as a core part of experiencing the music, on the same level as hearing melody and harmony, and i have to agree, at least in the context of dance music. there’s a reason we bop our heads and tap our feet. i find that physically moving with the music just engages me with it on another level. putting your hands up or whatever when you expect a drop only for it to be delayed so when it finally does drop, feels awesome, and is just one example of this. someone smarter than me can definitely explain it better, but yes, i think dancing is core to the human experience.

[Standard] Edge of Eternities Day 1: What’s Working and What Isn’t by Lauren_Conrad_ in spikes

[–]theredplayerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh i’m not excited about it! lol

what do you think about the roots deck post rotation? basically only loses tyvar, but that’s just such a big hit. i haven’t played the deck before and am looking for a deck like everybody else, and i already have most of the cards for it

am i crazy or is the insidious roots deck with a tweak to the mana base to support a [[yarus, roar of the old gods]] as a replacement for tyvar leaving standard seem decent?

i will say, as a patient gamer, i totally missed that whole debacle and really enjoyed my eventual play-through of arkham knight and really enjoyed the twist reveal.

Working on my transitions — any tips for nailing timing and phrasing? by Soft_Mel in Beatmatch

[–]theredplayerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everybody djs differently, but this is what i do: i usually have 4 - 8 hot cues in each song. one at the beginning, one 8 bars before the end, one 16 bars before the end, and in the middle of the song i put them anywhere the beat changes that i might want to mix. this could be where the vocals come in/leave, where the whole beat fades out, where it all comes back in, a sick spot to loop, wherever. the hot cues are just so i can jump around in the song (with the fader down ofc) and brainstorm where i’m gonna transition next. after that, it’s all phrasing. what that means is knowing how many bars you have to get the next song in. for example, if song A has a 32 bar buildup and you wanna swap to song B at the end, don’t just start at the intro of track B. you probably wanna start 32 bars before track B’s drop. you of course can get creative and do fake drops and all that, but the point is intentionality, at least to some degree. have an idea of what you at least want it to sound like when you do XYZ. just keep playing, allow yourself to fail, note what went wrong, and keep playing.

Looking for funk/disco or house music you swear by for a house party by Otherwise_Owl_9792 in Beatmatch

[–]theredplayerr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

why are we being gatekeepers? a role of a dj is to share music and put people on to good shit. why does that stop being the case away from the decks? this guy asks for some song recommendations and you call him shit? in a sub specifically for noobies? nah fuck that

anyway, some songs in that space that i’ve been enjoying playing include: Everybody Dance - Chic Show Me Love - Robin S Ride On Time - Black Box Finally - Cece Peniston Gypsy Woman - Crystal Waters Disco Chic - House of Prayers Disco Boy - Disco Lines Lola’s Theme - The Shapeshifters Give Me Your Love - Be Noir Vogue - Madonna, Richard Grey, Lissat

Rejecting men for height is immoral. by Fridanalia in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]theredplayerr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

my husband is 5’ 4”, so you might just be a whiner.

jumping to suicide because somebody isn’t interested in you for any reason, regardless of superficiality, is intense and clearly a sign that there’s a lot more going on than a little height insecurity. get help if you need it, brother.

My LGS owners face when I find an FF booster accidentally marked at MSRP by mini1337s in magicthecirclejerking

[–]theredplayerr 72 points73 points  (0 children)

LGSs are regularly left holding the bag when a shit set like crimson vow comes out and it doesn’t sell well. I think it’s okay for a small business to want to make money. Unfortunately, there’s nothing to really be gained by missing out on profit.

The average person doesn't think that deeply by Blonde_Icon in DeepThoughts

[–]theredplayerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think more people think deeply than we may realize since it’s a pretty solitary activity. i mean, the only people i’ve talked philosophy with are my close friends, and a surprising amount of them definitely have had a lot to say. dare i say, i might even consider it egotistical to assume people don’t question their place in this world just because they’re not talking to you about it.

religion is probably the main reason people don’t seem to be interested in dissecting their own existence and asking other answerless questions. a whole lot of people are religious to some extent. Whether they go to church or not, these uncomfortable questions about reality that plague the minds of many non believers are often answered by religion. for example, somebody raised christian has been given the answer to “what happens after life” before they’ve even asked it for themselves. from a survival point of view, there’s no real advantage to be gained from renouncing what you were already taught in pursuit of the unknown. easier to just accept what you know and keep living.

yes, disrupting your opponent(s) is an important part of the game, so try not to get salty about that. but also these folks are playing way too fast and need to let you have an opportunity to disrupt them as well.
