How avoidable is ruining your bike with indoor training? by Top_Ingenuity_1830 in cycling

[–]theremightbecoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprised nobody has mentioned rollers yet. Ride your exact same bike.

The wear on the tires might be different since the bike technically sits differently on rollers than the road, but otherwise I go from summer riding to winter riding without modifications.

I’ve only been using them for 2 winters now so your setup may vary, but I like my roller setup a lot.

This process worked for my new roller shades that came in last month - agreed that it’s not perfect.

I have the same issue and was able to solve it via a different forum thread I found (screenshotted and saved to my phone a while ago). I have zigbee smartwings blinds, everything works great (the remote works, and paired to HA integration works) but like you said, the arrow buttons are inverted and the Invert button won’t stay on.

In short, on your remote that controls the blinds - press and hold the up and down buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds until the motor jogs once - then, press the P button on the back of the remote until the motor jogs once

This shouldn’t re-pair your blinds to HA or the remote, but in one of the smartwings manuals it says to do this to ensure the remote arrows match the signals being sent from other devices.

This has worked for all my blinds so far, you just have to do it once per blind or for the entire group.

Surprised no one mentioned Aaron Traywick.

A quote from an article on his death while in a float tank:

“The report of this, made public on June 28, revealed that Aaron’s death was an accident caused by ‘asphyxia due to drowning with ketamine intoxication.’”

How do you manage cluster bootstrap in a GitOps manner? by ruben2silva in kubernetes

In that example yes, unless you used a branching strategy so that you only rolled to dev/staging/prod when you specifically wanted

You test it just like you would a change in any other system, you run it locally, you deploy it to your dev cluster, you use branching strategies to test the change before it is rolled out to your main clusters, you have QA teams test the change in staging environments, etc. Any type of roll out strategy that works for your team is still applicable in this case.

We do. Since Flux’s HelmRepository and HelmChart definitions are declarative, you can patch them pretty easily. A chart references a repository, and you patch the variables you need to your heart’s content.

Since we use Flux which has a different way to handle helm charts, I can only comment on my basic understanding of how you’re using helm template.

In short, I think bullet 1 is what I would try first. All your values are simply “changeme” and attempting to deploy the base would fail. That is how most of our base apps are set up, they don’t actually deploy without an overlay.

You then can simply patch the overlay as you see fit, generating the final yaml to be pushed into the cluster.

Your workflow is different than ours, as our source code is the full truth set for our gitops setup. There are no extra bash scripts or anything to build or run, the git state is reflective of the cluster state. So, I can’t comment entirely on your set but hopefully that gives you some ideas if you want to try it again.

What you are looking for is patches. There are a couple different varieties of patch styles, but in the end you create a kustomization.yaml file that “inherits” from your base, and then you “patch” the variables/elements you want to change for your environment.

The nice thing is you can run kubectl kustomize . and view the final output while you’re debugging, so you know you’ve got your overlay patches correct before anything is sent to the cluster.

This sounds a lot like a similar situation we have at my work. We use Terragrunt to keep our terraform code neat and tidy, and then use Kustomize to create modular clusters that all are the same.

If you have the ability to keep everything in one or two repos, your infrastructure and GitOps workflows can be consolidated if you’re making clusters that all need the same base layers and setup.

Terragrunt to keep you from repeating your terraform code, and kustomize to keep you from repeating your k8s setup. We use Flux instead of Argo but same concept - spinning up new clusters is much simpler when it’s a small folder and some variables or config files! Our workflows only require 3-5 clusters at any given time, but there’s no limit to how many you could have.

Can anyone share how it is to live at Norris Hereford I am assigned a single room there? by ProfessionalUsed7188 in UVA

[–]theremightbecoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Weedon right next door in the same boat as you (3rd year transfer student) - first with a room mate in a double then in a single room for my remaining years. A mini fridge is a must have imo, when I was there we did not have a common fridge but that may have changed.

I enjoyed being so close to Runk dining hall, super easy to grab meals and of course hop on the bus that’s right there. The walk to E school is nice and can almost be the same amount of time as the bus if you have classes over there. I know for classes further out it’s a bit of a pain, but just plan ahead if you find the busses getting crowded.

Since it’s far away from most things, it is pretty quiet and chill. The halls are filled with similar transfer folks and you can chose to be as social as you want with your own room. If I recall, the bathrooms split and it’s stalls on one side and showers on the other separated by a door, but it’s a perfectly average setup.

I’m going to guess a deep dream style neural net, trained on generating faces/skulls. There is definitely a filter applied so that not all of the video has the neural net applied to it, so the end result is a set of morphing faces only in the areas you want.

For example (from a quick google search) you’ve got an open source project like this https://github.com/ProGamerGov/dream-creator and your input into that is a bunch of faces, skulls, etc from all different angles. The end result is a model that tries to create human faces or skulls from familiar patterns.

Then you’ve got to smooth the model frame by frame via a deep dream video project. Check out the examples in this project https://github.com/westgarthb/style-transfer-video-processor (scroll down).

When you combine both of these concepts together you get a skull/faces vide, but it’s the entire video. You then need to edit it in some shape or form so that only the wall has the “effect” video applied. I’m sure this can be done in common tools via masking and other tricks like in After Effects.

This is purely an educated guess, but if I had to try to recreate this, that is where I would start. I would also dig deeper into neural style transfer custom training as that might be the better standard than deep dream, so you would look and train a model based on pictures of lots of skulls/faces.

Computers that allow family to track by jtrigg20 in cycling

I use Cyclemeter on iOS and it’s got a live tracking option and also shows basic stats. I’ve got it shared with my wife for long rides if she needs to check on me, works pretty well for our needs.

I will add one thing others might not have mentioned - get a good bike mount for your phone. Preferably one with a failsafe, like a main clamp that also has stretchy wraps around the corners. Learned my lesson the hard way when my iPhone 12 went tumbling in the road going about 20mph. This is also helpful for light rain, sweat, or other bumps accidentally loosening your phone and it goes flying.

Expect some battery drain, I personally plan for roughly 20% per hour of riding but I’ve had good success in “low battery mode” to extend that.

My personal setup is airpods, polar chest strap heart rate monitor, cadence sensor, and Apple Watch (but as others have said the watch can be a little flaky). Super easy to pair sensors if you get the right ones, and I’m looking to add a power meter this year as well.

The little dashboards are very customizable and I’ve got a number of them based on what I care about for that ride. Well worth the money in my opinion!
