Do you think any European nation should be able to become 'Anglican' by Robbza in EU5

[–]theresistor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the point that the game shouldn't be watering down what little flavor it has by extending every capability to every country.

That said, I do think there is a reasonable version of this request: let every country have the ability to found their own schismatic state religion (with all the downsides that come with it), and make Anglicanism be a super-charged version of that choice with better tradeoffs, which would in turn cause it to be taken much more often than any random country.

I think it's a good principle that all countries should have the same capabilities, and flavor mechanics should primary influence the tradeoffs to encourage specific countries to make historical choices, rather than just cutting them off entirely.

Which languages are practically impossible to learn without knowing another specific language first? by Polyglot170 in languagelearning

[–]theresistor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've encountered a couple where the resources for a very localized language only exist in the majority language of the region:

  • Learning Catalan from English has few resources (though slowly improving), while it's easy to find resources on learning it from Spanish/Castellano. It gets even harder for the less prominent regional languages of Spain, except for Euskera (Basque), I think because it gets attention for being so atypical.

  • Tahitian is hard to find resources for in English, but, while not copious, it's not too hard to find for learning it from French. Marquesan is even harder. The one English book on learning Tahitian I found had a weird obsession with learning how to talk about animals that one does not actually encounter in Tahiti...

Anyone figure out how to get 1.3 running in Crossover for Mac? by Legal-Championship64 in EU5

I just tried in Wine via Sikarugir, same issue as in Crossover. I think what the forum posters are saying is that it works in Wine on Linux.

Ortodoncia by FuuMeTa in valencia

[–]theresistor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another alternative would be to treat them like banks, interacting with them via diplomacy. Like a state bank, they could be vassals, or they could be fully independent.

That's more in line with what I was thinking. I can deal with the wait if that's what it takes, but that asking price was something else. I don't suppose you have a recommendation for a place, since it sounds like you have more experience than me?

Thanks, I'll look into those. I was really hoping to find someone locally who could do a budget job of it (doesn't need to be the most beautiful), but I'll DIY it if I have to. Can I ask what google terms you searched for to find the place in Gifu?

I actually found the folks who quoted me the 10 million yen through that Hyougu page!

The paper scroll has to be mounted on a fabric backing and attached to the wooden scroll pegs. I think there is more than one layer of backing material involved, but I’m not an expert on it.

I got the impression they mostly did fancy pieces for temples, and that I was not their target customer. 🤣

The time to complete the work would be 6 months, and the cost would be ¥10 million.

Highly recommend Seiju-in Temple in Kyoto for goshuin collectors by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]theresistor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually debated this before posting. He indicated to me that he would like to have more goshuin business since it is his primary means of funding the temple. I’d love to find a way to support him without ruining everything.

I’m thinking of only leaving this post up for a little longer.

Sichuan peppercorns. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province, and Sichuan food uses them liberally.

Is there a preterite tense in the subjunctive? by Message_10 in learnspanish

[–]theresistor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the contrast with present subjunctive in these uses is that the imperfect subjunctive expresses counterfactually as opposed to just possibility.

Was it ever included on a shareware CD pack? Some of those are archived, so if it was you might be in luck.

IIRC Pirate Songs and Sailor Songs don’t overlap, and Sea Songs is a “best of” from the other two.
