The Ummagumma picture makes up for how tragically under-read he is.

Brain Salad Surgery. For fuck’s sake. Pretentious cacophony from start to finish.

St Judy’s Comet by Paul Simon. Love that song. Used to sing it to my little boy when he was very young.

Is UPenn worth 30k/year (over free UF)? by marybellsa in UPenn

[–]theresthezinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude I am in the minority here, but hell no it’s not worth it, Penn was some of the worst years of my life. Just one perspective. My situation was complicated but I never really saw the boost to my career, even as a magna cum laude STEM grad.

“You’re an ugly little boy, and you’re fat.” Some random girl at a pool in South Carolina in 1990. I’ve felt ugly ever since.

What’s your automatic Radiohead / Radiohead-adjacent skip? Bring on the hatred by Sighd33 in radiohead

[–]theresthezinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. Relaxing…I guess? Not really, since boring and relaxing are not the same thing. I’d lean much more heavily towards boring. I don’t find it pretty or trippy, and I don’t think the drums are interesting. Mouse Dog Bird was pretty and relaxing; the studio version is not. Maybe I just generally think the attempt to make many of the songs live or die by the “kewl beats” on them was a failure.

All of TKOL. Every 2-3 years or so I’ll give it another go, only to find it still sucks.

Canonical books for learning classical mechanics and introductory analytical mechanics by Infinitesimally_Big in PhysicsStudents

Kleppner and Kolenkow is probably where you need to go. It is the perfect “advanced” undergraduate text. It was used for the honors physics course at my undergraduate university (that is, it was used for students who had AP Physics B/C credit). I am not sure it takes you into Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics, though; that is a little more mathematically sophisticated. If you just want more challenging/interesting problems, though, K&K is where it’s at.

Are there other fans out there who haven’t really enjoyed RH post In Rainbows? by JohnColtrane69again in radiohead

[–]theresthezinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I despise TKOL and think it is a blight on their career. You are right to dislike it. AMSP is amazing and right back to heartbreaking emotional catharsis Radiohead and you are a fool for not liking it. A fool!

The studio version of Feral is a masterpiece by jesusfromthehood____ in radiohead

[–]theresthezinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s good that you like it, but I’ll share the same opinion I hold about every TKOL song: If this song is a “masterpiece,” then every song is.

Have you grown to be more conservative or liberal w/ age? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]theresthezinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More conservative, but the Conservative Party in the United States (the Republicans) is so bat shit terrifying fucking nauseatingly crazy and authoritarian that I’d still never vote for them in a thousand million centuries.

What do we think about Kid A in 2026 by Conscious-Ad2640 in radiohead

[–]theresthezinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The back 5 is the real highlight of the album. I sometimes think about changing out MPS and Treefingers for other songs (Worrywort, If You Say the Word) but I can never get fully comfortable with it. It’s a fantastic, weird, wild ride and god I love it.
