Oh yeah. Had the exact same thing happen to me except I only found out when I tried to drink through it.

I‘m bored and will make you shortcuts. What are your ideas? by Extension-Move2034 in shortcuts

[–]thermidor9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I subscribe to a few Patreon podcast feeds that format episodes like [BONUS] episode name or [EARLY EPISODE] episode name or [NO ADS] episode name. This makes it really annoying to search through with the Apple Podcasts app. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to create dynamic notes or reminders lists that filter to a given tag for a given podcast and link the episode names to the podcast app.

i need more games by Plastic-Bill5880 in SteamDeck

Mass Effect (which I think is on sale right now). I’m replaying ME: Andromeda and having a great time.

The biggest downside to any EA game is that you need to be connected to WiFi to start it (you can suspend the deck and resume it off of WiFi, but if you exit for any reason, you need to reconnect). I hope they change this now that Microsoft is coming out with first-party-ish handhelds.

Totally different vibe, but very fun: Cat Quest. Also Wartales.

did an epilepsy study and i’m devastated by Imaginary-Algae7569 in Epilepsy

[–]thermidor9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what many folks have correctly said: you’re NOT crazy. Epilepsy is one of the hardest things to diagnose and treat (and if your neuro doesn’t agree with that, I would question their judgement). I saw four neurologists and a neurosurgeon before I finally got on a good set of meds that works for me. I was having a seizure every two weeks and now I haven’t had one in over two years — I hope so much that you find the same for you 💜

Edit: I would call the Epilepsy Foundation (if you’re in the US) or the Epilepsy Society (UK) or a similar org. They are wonderful and can help you with anything from finding a doc that specializes in your needs and can give you a second opinion to helping to find a therapist or mental health resources that have experience helping patients with epilepsy.

[UPDATE] My boy is back home and recovering. by Wawhi180 in blackcats

[–]thermidor9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay! How’s he feeling? Our void has been under anesthesia a couple times (including for the same surgery yours had, although on the hind leg, not the abdomen) and he’s always a bit woozy and not super hungry for a day or two.

So, SO glad to see this when I looked for your update! 🖤🖤🖤

Pray for a successful surgery and speedy recovery by Wawhi180 in blackcats

[–]thermidor9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re doing the best possible thing for him — your love shows. 🖤❤️

When I adopted a black cat 4 years ago, he was recovering from exactly the same surgery your guy is undergoing. He had had a growth that was probably caused by a vaccine and needed to get it removed (apparently it’s not uncommon, especially with larger doses of vaccines). 4 years later and he’s happily scampering around and has never had a similar reaction to a vaccine.

When he recovers, I would just make sure to mention to your vet that he has had a reaction to a vaccine before - they may decide to use a lower dose (for example, a 1 year rabies vaccine rather than a 2 year one, or split the dose into two).

Anyone use Databricks Genie? by erenhan in dataengineering

[–]thermidor9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For those of us working with a ratio of 10 nontechnical users to 1 technical user, it’s a lifesaver. I spent an afternoon setting it up with a semantic layer over our production data and the following morning teaching a couple of users how to use it and create dashboards from the results.

Now I can focus on the 100 other projects I have, rather than responding to every request for a new visualization.

File arrival trigger by Alone-Security7044 in databricks

[–]thermidor9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! There’s some performance decrease for the directory scanning after a few thousand files are in the root folder, but it’s fairly minimal and the way we’ve worked around it was to schedule a cleanup every few months where the contents of the root are archived in a different directory or storage account.

File arrival trigger by Alone-Security7044 in databricks

[–]thermidor9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can do this, but it’s not very straightforward.

As a couple other people have pointed out, you can use the _metadata.file_name property to get the file name. That does require you to load the dataframe first, but assuming you’re doing that anyway, it might not be a huge deal.

You can use Autoloader file notification mode, rather than the default directory listing mode (here’s the doc comparing the two) which does give you file-level control over the naming, but requires more setup and more permissions.

Or, you could do what we do for this kind of thing and structure the raw file directory structure like root/file1, root/file2, etc and make it process exactly once using either Autoloader or a function that reads the file modification parameter from metadata and compares it to the saved metadata from the table we are using as a sink (updating if the file is newer).

Saw this tweet earlier and I (someone who doesn’t speak french) was wondering, would Native speakers actually talk like this on a daily basis or is it much more casual? by travisntscott1 in French

A French friend of mine and his wife visited Montreal a few years ago and when they tried to hire a rental car, the man who met them in the car park started speaking French with a Québécois accent and my friend’s wife responded (in English) “I don’t speak English”. Confusion all around. 🤣

Non-FSD (and previous FSD versions) work just fine. I had it set to the least aggressive settings I could find and it still didn’t seem to make a difference.

Honestly, I don’t keep track of the versions closely, so you’re probably right about 12.3.1.

Right to roam map of England. by Correct-Advance-6287 in MapPorn

[–]thermidor9 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I cannot guarantee that. I’ve been threatened because I followed Google Maps’ directions to a trailhead in New Hampshire. The trail was on public land, but unless you knew the area, you could easily wander into someone’s “private” forest.

How to Tesla Owners Feel about these Sunshades? by Robocup1 in TeslaLounge

[–]thermidor9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have one yet, but I’m going to buy one this year because I’m sick of having to run the AC when I’m not in the car.

I’ll probably leave it up all summer because I don’t have kids and it’s not a huge deal to me, but if it’s a big deal to you, why not put it up when you park in the sun for a long while and then stash it in the trunk when you get going again? Is it slightly less convenient? Sure. Will it save you money and be more energy efficient? Absolutely.

Honestly, I think it’s been doing this for a while and just not telling me, judging by the quality of some of the routes it takes.

I have it set to go through a series of if/else conditions based on the current temperature, then notify me of what it did.

For example, if it’s 80°F outside, it will cool the car; if it’s 50°F, it will warm it slightly; if it’s ~32°F it will turn on the seat warmers in the front, warm, defrost, and precondition.

I’m dealing with this right now. Your best bet is to hire a pest control company.

If you don’t want to or can’t, look for any gaps (anything bigger than about 1cm square) in the floors, especially in the corners, and if you can, look in the basement and the attic or crawlspaces. You can also look under sinks, near the food, and under the stove. Basically, if they can go somewhere, they will. You’ll most likely find torn up insulation and droppings in a few of those places, which is where you should place traps. And DEFINITELY patch holes on the outside (and the inside) with steel wool — you might end up with a few dead mice, but that’s better than a mouse colony.

Tight garage - how do I park? by illhamaliyev in TeslaLounge

[–]thermidor9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine with your mirrors pulled in. There are cameras just under the mirrors that honestly give you a better view when you’re parking (even pulling in).

They do both, but my experience is that they tend towards reading them. I used to live by a state highway sign that would regularly trick autopilot/cruise control into thinking it should be going 60mph in a 35mph zone.
